    The houses look tidy, the shops are all clean and open, the people are all British...just perfect.
    Itd be hard for a while to get used to no phone, no ebike, no this and no that, but this was the best of Britain.

    Fantastic footage. Been to Leeds many a time with Newcastle. I remember us taking around 8,000 down the on the opening day of the 87 Season? I'm not entirely sure of the year but Kevin Carr broke his arm and Waddle went in goal for Newcastle for a bit. Newcastle were everywhere that day. We stopped the van about five mins walk from the ground and the moment we got out Leeds were into us.. lol... not even a chance of a warm up bounce about in the road. Just bang bang and it was away. Leeds was a rough place where you were on for a kicking unless you had enough lads with you to stand and fight them. Newcastle always did and the proper Leeds will know this. Never felt like you were going to get slashed either. Unlike Boro, Chelsea (just about all the London clubs in fact) both scouse teams and lots of little no mark teams looking to make a rep for themselves. Always a good day out in my book. Cracking atmosphere in Elland Road, a really noisy ground. Newcastle used to be the same but it's shite now. 52,000 people and most of them sitting on their hands or gawping into their phones.

      Think you might be wrong about Kevin Carr. I think he was peddled by then. From memory he done his arm in walking through a patio door in a pre season tour of spain or somewhere. I also think it was the first game of the 83/84 season that we got promoted. It was boiling and they were charging £1 for water when you could get a pint for 35p. Have to agree with you though, that you had to be on form there or keep your head down or you would get done within minutes. I always found them to be a bit like Man Utd and just a big rabble of vandles looking to create havoc because of their numbers, but at the same time I suppose people viewed us like that as well. Also have to agree with you about not having to worry about getting slashed. You might get kicked to shat but you didnt have to worry about getting a Stanley across your back like many other places. London, Boro, Merseyside, etc as you say.

    • @kevinreay1510
      @kevinreay1510 Před 5 lety +3

      First away game of the 83/84 season was Leicester mate. Then Arsenal away in midweek and Man Utd on the Saturday. I was at all of them. You could be right about Kevin Carr as he was hurt on a pre season incident in Spain. All I know for sure is that it was opening day and Waddle went in goal. Red hot day and Newcastle set fire to that traffic roundabout just outside the ground. I came home with a black eye, but it was from one of our own lot. Long standing disagreement came to the fore ... and I got my eye blacked.

    • @robwinder5415
      @robwinder5415 Před 5 lety +2

      Sorry to disagree but Leeds was 83/84 as per this link www.nufc.com/html/1983-84.html . It sticks in my mind cos we were promoted in 84 which was also the year I left school. Funnily enough Huddersfield away, which is where I think we secured promotion, was the away match I attended after officially leaving school and I remember feeling like billy big bollox shouting "back to school on monday" at their fans in that big terrace down the side of the pitch. Leicester, Arsenal, Man u etc was the 84/85 season. Talking of getting whacked by one of your own, that happened to me at Arsenal after that mid week game. We got to the ground to early and got talking to some bloke who gave us a couple of seat tickets (god knows why). when we came out Newcastle were coming from the right from the clock end and arsenal were coming from the left and we were right in the middle, so we walked into the newcastle fans. Some newcastle fan whacked me thinking I was a cockney

    • @kevinreay1510
      @kevinreay1510 Před 5 lety +2

      84-85 was the season we got promoted. First three away games Leicester, Arsenal and Man Utd. The Leeds game was a Div 2 game. We had about 8,000 down for it. We had even more than that down at Man Utd when we lost 5-0. About 10,000 - 12,000 according to police estimates. The good old days ...

    • @robwinder5415
      @robwinder5415 Před 5 lety +3

      Think we are saying the same thing in different ways. 83/84 we were in div 2 with leeds away first game of the season. 84/85 we were in div 1 with Leicester, arsenal and man u first 3 away games. They were great days, not like the sterile toss in stadiums with no atmosphere that's served up today.

      We never had the massive range of processed food, ready meals and takeaways we all take for granted now and chocolate and cakes were a weekend treat. We did eat lots of chips though! But the main reason I reckon (I went from 7 to 17 yrs old in the 70's), was that we mostly walked to school, 'cos if you were lucky enough to have a family car, your dad used it to get to work. We spent our evenings and leisure time playing football in the park, running about riding our bikes or swinging on ropes in the woods (3 channels on TV and no internet or games to keep us indoors). And our parents were glad to have us out of the house. Great time to be a kid!

    I think Leeds United could be promoted this season. They have had lots of good Scottish players over the years. I support cross border cups between Scottish, Welsh and English sides. I do not support merging the leagues as that would destroy our football history and identity. I want a best of both worlds where keep our own leagues but also have cross border British cups on top of European and domestic soccer.
    The Scottish have allowed English, Welsh and Irish sides in the Scottish Challenge Cup. So UEFA AND FIFA would be OK with this. I think keeping our own leagues but having cross border British cups would really help the Celtic soccer leagues develop and grow. Teams would get higher attendances, TV rights, and sponsorship deals. It would enable the Celtic leagues to grow.
    It would be fun to have cross border games at a high level every season. It would be great to have cross border cups involving Scottish, Welsh, Cornish, Irish, and English club sides.
    Imagine games like Dundee United FC v Manchester City, Leeds United v Hibernian, Luton Town v Holywell Town, Aberdeen v Newport County, Man Utd v Connahs Quay Nomads, Inverness CT v Cork City, Ross County v Wrexham, Glasgow Celtic v Cardiff City, Glasgow Rangers v Liverpool, and Falkirk v Everton.

      @@allanhall4210 Yep they lost 2-0 to Bayern Munich as you say . Anyone who knows football is fully aware of how leeds were cheated out of the result . When the referee was never given another match after that says it all really . Same as the cup winners cup 2 years earlier . Im leeds through and through and let me tell you , if your team was leeds in '75 i would be saying exactly the same . Alan Clarke was fouled by beckenbauer and lorimers volleyed goal were two massive points in that game we were simply cheated what was rightfully ours . I know its easy to blame to ref but bribery allegations were proven it seems.
