The late 80's/early 90s club sound...my friends and I lived for the weekends dancing to all these songs. We used to regularly go out with about 10-20 of us guys and take over clubs dancing. Fridays were designated as all-out dancing, so we literally had on high-tops, shorts and t-shirts and would be sweating up a storm. Saturdays were still about dancing, but it also focused a bit more on the ladies, so we'd be wearing our Girbaud pants, collared, short-sleeved shirts and wing-tip shoes...these were crazy times. Here is just a few of the songs that, when you heard the first few beats there would be a bum-rush to the dance floor: The Sugarhill Gang “Rapper’s Delight”, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five “The Message”, Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock “It Takes Two”, Soul II Soul “Back to Life’”, De La Soul “Me, Myself and I”, Young MC “Bus A Move”, C+C Music Factory “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)”, Deee-Lite “Groove is in the Heart”, Snap! “The Power”.

Yo Jay, what you're hearing in TECHNOTRONIC (techno/electronic) is best described as the fusion of rap, house, disco trance dance music! Pump Up the Jam gets the party started, working up a sweat. In this video however the actual lead singer, MC Ya Kid K, is not featured. The women you see was a backup dancer they used because Ya Kid K was the first androgynous rapper. She looked too much like a little boy dressed in her "hood drag". So the record company pushed this video until there was push back from music fans, denying her gender identity even though many music artists were doing that very thing in the 80s. Here's a link to a live performance feat Ya Kid K

I saw Technotronic live in a crowd of around 80,000 in 1990 when they supported Madonna on her Blonde Ambition tour. Some other suggestions from that era, Black Box with Ride on time, Yazz with The Only way is up, Blue Pearl with Naked in the rain and 2 Unlimited with Get ready for this

They tried to kill us with this song in Aerobics, TaeBo and spin cycling by playing this song for maximum effort.
    It’s a double-time dance step that has a distinctive Euro-tech-pop club hit.
We all needed a drink after this song was over but then they’d hit us right back with Buffalo Stance to get us back into the dance groove on the floor.
    Fun times, clubbin’

You gotta be kidding me, Pump up the Jam?! Never thought I'd see this song on here XD Fun stuff man. This music video is definitely in that weird time when things were coming out of the 80's into the 90's! I'd like you to listen to some Daft Punk! Around the World comes to mind for some reason even if it's not my fave of theirs!

  • @jevousemmerdetouslesthunde2391

Hi Jayvee! This song is a Classic, iconic and epic in the end of 80's. It's a Belgian group, precursor of "new beat" music. I believe it's their first song in 1989 and a smash hit all over Europe (Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, England, France, Germany, Austria,etc...) even No.1 in Canada and in USA in all the charts!!!: Platinum and Gold disc.
It exists a longer version which is in the CD album or Maxi CD.
I remember i bought this album in cassette (shorter versions) and after in CD (longer versions).
For this single, unfortunately Felly isn't the real singer!!! It's Manuela Kamosi who sings in the other songs like "Get Up (Before The Night Is Over)" in 1990 on which you should react, the "follow up" which is a bomb!
Thomas De Quincey alais Jo Bogaert is the composer and the producer of the following singles: Get Up, Move This, This Beat Is Technotronic, Rockin' Over The Beat, ... and Turn It Up with Melissa and Einstein.
Pump Up The Jam had a "sequel" in 1996 which had less success and in 1998 then 2005 by D.O.N.S.
    Thanks from France.
