- NAMM 2020 demo - Roland JUPITER-X, LIVE Performance using the iArpeggio. Every sound that you hear that is not being played live is being triggered from the Jupiter-X's iArpeggio.
There are no overdubs. I used the Beat and Key detector (in the iArpeggio) by turning them off and on to control the performance. The Beat detector changes the rhythm of the arpeggios and the Key detector follows what is being played.
Listen to how the arpeggiations change depending on how I play and when I turn on and off the Beat and Key detectors. Thanks for watching! - Hudba
I got one of these recently. I'd describe it as a very "deep" synthesizer. I keep discovering new things about it every time I play it. It's truly capable of making an overwhelming amount of tones and sounds, all of which are incredibly high fidelity. If I had any criticism it would be that the layout of the synth isn't very intuitive. There's quite a bit of menu diving in order to do a lot of the operations, but overall the synth is definitely worth it. Between the Jupiter X and my new Prophet 5 I've got a whole world of synth tones available to me.
I agree! the Jupiter-X is an amazing piece and sounds great! I also really like using all the controllers for shaping my sounds but hear ya on the deep editing side of things. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
I love Scott's videos. I'll never forget his Jupiter-80 demo years ago. I bought one because of it. I'll be getting the Jupiter-X as well. I've also owned a real Jupiter-8. This sounds just as good, and you won't have to tune it every few minutes.
Thank you so much, Mike! You are going to love the Jupiter-X!!
Thank you for this amazing demo; thanks to you I do not regret by my pre-order of this superb synth. I look forward to your next video
Thank you, CHRIS LEG! I think you are going to love it! It really is a blast to create quickly or just shape a sound it seconds.
I'm not surprised the demo is good.... Scott did the single best performance video of the Jupiter-80 that I've ever seen several years ago for Kraft Music, one I've watched numerous times since! Nice job, Scott, and I look forward to future Jupiter-X videos!
Thank you so much, AnalogX1!
EXAAAACCTLY I got hooked on to that video. He explained everything so well. And the playing in between was nothing less than REMARKABLE. I still watch that video in 2020. I want more Roland demos with Scott as the demonstrator. Man please reply when you are again gonna do some killer demo. I really miss your demos.
Yours lovingly

@@_reckless_ Thank you so much and WOW so glad you enjoyed the Jupiter-80 video!
@@scottberry6669 see scott !! im not the only one who thought your jp80 set at kraft music was amazing! right after I saw that i went out and bought it! you did an amazing job!!! now bring on the jpx !! :)
@@marctronixx Wow that is so awesome to hear! Thank you and I am working on some new stuff!
Brilliant!!! Add this one to the list of “must haves.”
Fantastic Jupiter-x demonstration..wonderful performance 👏🏻
Thank you!
Setup fantastico e suoni stupendi. Complimenti davvero!!! A presto
I know that this video of a live performance is 2 years old (already?), but this has pushed me to the very edge of getting a Jupiter X (to about 99%). Being a stickler for details (I own a few real analog synths, Minimoog D, Prophet REV2, Oberheim OB6, Deepmind 12, VC240) I want to hear it for myself in person to see if it meets my expectations. I've been burned by VAs before in the past.(Alesis Ion, Korg MS2000, Roland JP8080, Novation Nova) which all had a major flaw: they lack high-frequency content (all limited to about 8-12 kilohertz frequency response). The Minimoog and OB6 produce harmonics as high as 22 kilohertz. Unfortunately, CZcams audio compression limits the quality of the audio, hence the need for me to hear it in person. Thanks for this superb performance.
Sounds amazing! Gives me an 80’s feel and I love it!
Thanks, DrummerMatMan! The Jupiter-X has those classic 80's engines onboard.
Super cool 🎉
Thank you!
Great demo! Sounds fantastic!
Thank you, WAGSU2BE! So glad you enjoyed it!
Roland killing it with the design on Fantom and Jupiter X.
Aleksandar Ivanov Well the Jupiter-X the Fantom design on the other hand🤢
This is the best demo I've seen to date. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much for that comment!
Fantastic.
Same I have a 14bit...this looks so much can't wait 🙂
I see that you have a lot of fun with the X and sounds good.I like the Jupiter-8 sounds,i've had one.
Yes, it is a lot of fun! I had a Jupiter-6 back in the day. Always wanted the Jupiter-8, loved the look of it also. The Jupiter-X is the closest to that look and has the Juno-106 (also owned) SH-101, JX-8P and XV-5080.
@@scottberry6669 i doubt between the JP and the PC-4,i'm fan of both.
@@dirkkeersmaekers4343 I think they are different from each other and understand. The JP-X has that old feel but with the right modern touches. For me personally, it brings me back to when I had all my gear running at the same time but had to sequence a basic idea, The problem with that was that I would lose the flow in that process. With the JP-X it happen right at the moment the idea starts and BAM I'm jamming out and having fun.
@@scottberry6669 I like the old look of the X.. I have had a few Jupiter 8's luckily.... I am surprised it rook Roland this long to do produce a JP8 look a like
@@synthartist69 you are very lucky to have a few Jupiter-8's!! Roland's moto has been "We design the future" so to see a JP-8 look alike is rare. But, the Jupiter-X is so much more than just a JP-8. With all the Models of other classic Roland synths and the new ZEN-CORE engine, it is indeed a NEW instrument.
Nice one Scott, Well done 😀👍
Thanks so much, Stuart!
Scott Berry No Problem Scott, Keep up the Fantastic Work, You inspired me a few years ago to spend a lot of money which I didn’t have on the Jupiter 80 ,did not regret that at all, Looks like I will be doing the same with Jupiter X🤣 Best Wishes Scott and Stay Safe ✊👍
Nice, Scott
Thank you, Nick!
This synth has a nice sound
Scott, because of your video here I've just ordered a Jupiter X. - hope I can figure it out and that it's not too difficult to figure out in terms of tech. I'm used to acoustic piano, but I do produce electronically as well. However - not at all a tech geek, so even though I do understand synthesizers and have one already, I'm not patient enough for figuring out how to make them work and find the sounds I like to play. But I've aalways wanted a Jupiter 8 because of its sounds, and I use Jupiter 8 in soft synths. So I'm taking a leap of faith and hope I can make composing more fun and inspiring with this cult synth and use it to record its cool audio into Ableton. Love this video. Thanks!
Hi NicEndo, Congrats on your purchase, you will love the Jupiter-X! There is a Playlist of tutorial videos on the ROLAND PRODUCT SUPPORT YT channel for the Jupiter-X. If you need help, please hit me up. You can also find me on Facebook.
@@scottberry6669 you were right Scott. I absolotely LOVE it! Never tried anything like it! It’s SO inspiring and fun to compose on. Exceeds my wildest expectations. The Jupiter X is a party!
Next is to figure out if I can export what I play as well as the different parts in a scene to different audio tracks in my daw. Thanks for being so inspirational that you made me and so many other people go out and get this🤩🤩🤩
@@NicEndo Yes, you can record separate tracks live into a DAW. I have a video on how to set it up. czcams.com/video/zfNt_zmqGQo/video.html
Hey Scott, awesome demo! I was wondering if I'd be able to swap patches from this to other Zen-core compatible synths like the AX-Edge, or how would that work? I've read something about this happening soon. It would be great if it does.
Thanks, 5kriz! As far as I know, ZEN-CORE sounds can be interchangeable between products that have the ZEN-CORE engine. However, the Jupiter-X , Jupiter-Xm and Fantom also have other engines like SuperNATURAL, V-Piano and other modeling that does not fall under the ZEN-CORE engine. Depending on the Tone (sound or Patch) you will be able to move a Tone to another product using ZEN-CORE. Hope that helps.
👏🤟👏geil
How well does the Jupiter X do Van Halen OBxa sounds? Would love to hear a video. Great job on all of the X videos!
I would think it would be great for that. Just the Jupiter-8 model alone would get you there or extremely close. Even the XV-5080 or Zen-Core engine would probably nail it. Thanks so much for the comment. Many more videos coming for the Jupiter-Xm and Jupiter-X on the Roland Product Support channel.
@@scottberry6669 Well done Scott, I will stay tuned..
@@synthartist69 Awesome and thanks again!
the default factory scene that loads when you boot it up is about spot-on for the Van Halen Jump sound.
@@gmannewsom most definitely
..i bought the X a few months ago
DOPE just dance
Does the Jupiter X have patches from the Roland JX10, please?
Awesome demo. Just one thing you have the wrong t-shirt on that day! Otherwise a sweet performance Scott.
LOL Thanks, Bobby Baird! The Jupiter-X shirt was in the wash that day.
@@scottberry6669 I believe you Scott. I'm sure you have a different tee for all your synths.
What’s the difference between this and the Jupiter 80? Does it have any synth leads and brass!? That’s all I want to know
Hi Lordtunes Piano Reviewer, the short answer is, they are very different from each other. The JP-80 has 76 keys and all of the SuperNATURAL acoustic engine and SuperNATURAL Synth engine. The JUPITER-X has 61 keys and is using Modeling for realistic Roland vintage synths and a new engine called ZEN-CORE. The ZEN-CORE engine can be everything else you need i.e. Realistic type sounds. And yes, it has Brass and Synth leads!
Dear @scott Berry, i would like to know Fantom 6 is also have zen core engine. can we exchange the sound between Jupiter x and Fantom 6
Yes! You can import and export ZEN-CORE sounds between the Fantom and Jupiter-Xm and Jupiter-X. You will also be able to do that with any product using the ZEN-CORE engine.
@@scottberry6669 Dear scott, thanks for the reply. i really love your setup of keyboards.
@@zionlive2023 Thank you and you are more than welcome!
@@scottberry6669 but will the patches sound identical in the fantom? Do both synths have exactly the same sound engine ? I am confused by this.
Killer job bud
Thank you, Steve!
Is it too much to have Jupiter-X and Fantom together? I’m getting my Jupiter-X next month.
Hi Gretar, I don't think so. I compose and play totally differently on the Fantom and the Jupiter-X. Both inspire me to create but the iArp on the Jupiter-X is just awesome!
👍
I like that patch at 1:17
Same patch but with a little more Cutoff added. You can see in the video that I raise the Mod wheel (assigned to Cut Off) just a bit before playing that part.
@@scottberry6669 Wow.. I see that now.. It really cuts through by increasing cutoff and also makes the modulation stand out more.. nice ! If I buy one I know how to get this patch. Better hit store on that one :)
@@synthartist69 sometimes it is the little things that makes it better!
Roland jupiter x Nr1 PLANETA TERA MADE IN JAPAN
Roland Jupiter X Nr 1 PLANET TERA Best Creator SECRET Fulllllllll.
I like that its "new age" but for a synth that is 80s based i find the scenes to be interesting and not in a good way..as well as not reminicent whatsoever of the 80s or 90s. its fun to play but i really wish the scenes were more generated to 80s/retrowave and not futuristic bleeps and bloops. i dont know anyone that would listen to the music created by the scenes that were programmed into it as well as the I-ARPs
Conclusion: a synth for goats
I don't like arpeggiators, but I don't have to use it if i don't like it. I like the synthesizer though. The aesthetics and build are good, which is a rarity these days. And thanks goodness, no cheesy touchscreen.
The build quality is awesome!
Is it possible to play a worse song?
Piano,sax ,brass,panflute,etc...???? Clasic . ..??? Zero....????
bit underwhelming to be honest roland are in trouble if this is their best offering for 2020 a lot of trouble nothing cutting edge about it except its yet another nostaligia product with every synth roland ever made crammed into one sound wise for 2000 quid i would have expected somerthing more cutting edge they make a thing about iargpeggio but i'll be honest my 150 quid yamaha play a long thing does same thing and can have a band that adapts to what your playing whats groundbreaking about rolands play along thing is fact its 2 big ones for the pleasure rather then 150 quid yet another flop from roland in a long line of recent flops
Its cause they keep rolling out the virtual analog stuff to save $ instead of bringing back the analog circuits. Then again the engineer of the TB303 & 909 passed away
@@pentacle9783 nothing wrong with virtual analog its a deeper synthesis then just analog which i have no interest in anymore maybe they should take a leaf out of korgs book and try innovating
@@pentacle9783 simple fact is digital is better then analog offers more depth more options and sounds better and people go its just sample play backs yeah maybe so but i am sick of analoig synths its just hair rock and cb squelch and for me im done with it
