Yes. The US was not "facing destruction as a nation" at the time those bombs were dropped. It would even be hard to argue they were "facing destruction as a nation" at any point, during WWII. A navy harbor getting blown up, far from mainland US, was barely a dent. To think Ham could destroy IL is equally delusional. Plus, Japan was the aggressor, the clnizer, the occpier, the gncider, in China. That's more similar to IL.
