- The Government will end the use of the Bibby Stockholm barge for housing migrants off England’s south coast as part of an overhaul of the asylum system, the Home Office has announced.
The contract for the barge moored in Dorset will not be renewed past January as demand for such accommodation will be reduced by moves to clear the asylum backlog, the department said.
Tory MP Matt Vickers joins Talk’s Jeremy Kyle to discuss this further.

I lived on that barge for 6 months while working on Laggan Tormore on Shetland island, it was luxury to some of the Oil platforms I have worked on. I can't remember any lawyers fighting for us workers regarding fire safety etc. Absolute joke that they were housed in such luxury and still wanted more. If it was good enough for the working man it is good enough for these grifters.
Why does this even need to go through a court ? What court exactly. They aren’t English citizens so they shouldn’t be dealt with via a court.

The Bibby Stockholm barge was only housing 500 people at peak. There are currently 50,446 asylum seekers being housed in hotels.
The Bibby Stockholm only ever held a tiny amount. Scrapping it will save £4500 per head per month or £27 million a year. It costs considerably less to put them in immigration detention centres if they are illegal immigrants.
