Hasbro Black Series Scout Trooper Helmet Misses The Mark

  • Hey Collectors! The much anticipated Hasbro Black Series Scout Trooper Helmet is here! While still a great value overall, some key decision by Hasbro to include some sub-par electronic features comes at the cost of a more accurate sculpt for the piece overall. Happy to have it in my collection for now, but will be open to replacing it in the future.

      Hey Ryan. My main issue stated in the video is actually the exposed battery panel on the back. Hasbro has hidden battery panels inside the helmet before, and it seems like a shame that they prioritized a pretty poor electronic feature, that most users won’t be actively using, ahead of what could have been a better representation of the helmet. Thanks for watching.

    I think it's funny when people pick on Black Series helmets. THEY ARE TOYS not collectible movie accurate props. They are meant to look good on the shelf and that's all they are for and they do the job well. I would be on board with them removing the electronics and spending more on materials and quality.

    • @StarWarsCollected
      @StarWarsCollected  Před 11 měsíci

      It's really only fair to compare it to other BS helmets at this point, and that's what I tried to do here. We've seen better from Hasbro, and I think things like the battery panel should have really been avoided, even if it means less "playability" because I just don't think that's how this product gets used. Like you said, they go on a shelf for most of us.

    As someone who just plops them on a shelf, i love mine. For the price, they did a great job. They really need to scrap those useless voice modulators though. I don't know why they insist on adding them when they are soo bad. But besides the little gripes, I'm very happy that I finally own a Scout Trooper helmet which looks decent and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Bring on the 47 repaints 😂

    Most of the Black Series helmets are a great bang for the buck and look great as a display piece. Not everyone wants to spend 500 bucks on a helmet.

    • @StarWarsCollected
      @StarWarsCollected  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Totally agree, they are a great value. My criticisms aren't comparing it to a higher end helmet, but the prioritizing of including electronic features in, like you said, a display piece, which causes major inaccuracies on the exterior. I think most collectors would say keep the electronic features in exchange for a more accurate helmet.

    I think it looks great. I've preordered mine and can't wait to receive it. As for the seam lines, can they be filled with Bondo or something? Maybe the shine finish can't be done cleanly. I'm not sure I mind the seams that much, the overall impression from a distance is it looks great.

      Thanks Matt! I tried to review it based off what it was, a toy, and not a prop replica. Comparing it to other Black Series helmets, I think it just falls short, mostly because of prioritizing that voice modulator at the cost of a big exposed panel on the back. From the front, this thing looks absolutely awesome to me (no Scout trooper expert though). After having bought a Boba Fett helmet and a Mandalorian one, I am very much on the fence on these. To me, they are more high-end toys than collectibles to me. I am still eyeing the Clone Trooper bucket. But on the this, the price is not quite right to me. I am very torn on Hasbro Black Series helmets. Guess the most appealing is that you can basically put them on right out of the box and they look great at first glance.

    • @StarWarsCollected
      @StarWarsCollected  Před 11 měsíci

      I think you nailed it Sandra. Some of them look like toys, some of them look like replicas. I want them to be the latter, so when they have buttons, or panels, or weird seams, it just knocks it down to that toy level, and frustrates me. I wish they'd ditch the play features (as I don't think that's the primary demographic) and really concentrate on accuracy.

    Im not sure why you're so hard on this helmet. Its not anyworse then the Boba Fett or X-wing mold. The X-wing has seams in a couple of places, with one in the front, and I've heard people complain about the separate piece button ruining the solid look of that box/square. The battery cover isnt really that bad either. The original helmets use decal stickers which stand out as a decal sticker with the white not matching and you can see the edge of the sticker like we can with the battery cover.
    There is no alternative option for a scout trooper that looks this good while maintaining the price. The proportions and detail is there. And the helmet can be modified by filling in the seams and then repainted.

It would seem that referencing the scout troopers from Mandalorian, where they don't have a sticker issue, would be more in line with that. Not to mention any other replica be it from Hot Toys, EFX, or even a Hasbro figure doesn't put unnecessary panels on the back. I think Hasbro likes to position these as role-play items, but I think 90% of the time they are going to be display pieces, so it would seem to me the priority should be presenting the most aesthetically pleasing version of the item, and making any electronic features a secondary concern, not to compromise the appearance.

    When it comes to your tantrum, think about how awful it'd be to have that inside? You'd sweat into it and cause the batteries to short and/or leak, it creates sharp edges you could cut yourself on, and for something sold as a toy (not a prop replica) both of those are strict no-no's.
