I appreciate that Twisted Metal 4 was a genuine improvement over 3 and the fact that it went to do its own thing with the circus freakshow aesthetic instead of just being a poor man's 2 with worse physics.
Looking back, as a 2 and Black die hard fan, it feels like the small, cool additions from 3&4 just didn't move the needle enough when Black seems to have gone in such a different direction. Two things I really loved about the 989 games was the addition of more timing weapons and more specials that manipulated opposing vehicles. Thumper's special in 3 is one of the most fun specials in the entire series, imo.

I do agree with this tielist, although I would place Calypso in S tier because of the rear attack exploit. When you perform a rear atack with empty weapon slot, game launches the last weapon you had in the inventory. With calypso it means you can spam nuclear warheads out of your ass if the last weapon in your inventory was the Nuke special.
I'd rate it high against taller vehicles as landing a direct hit while they don't move inside the cross hairs actually causes draining damage. Two specials and you kill Sweet Tooth or anyone else really.
This is why I always have Lightning as my final weapon on Minon's Maze. I don't even need to see my opponents to pummel them on this stage. Just spam Rear Attack and watch their health bars melt
Orbital was my favorite on TM4, mostly for being a Mclaren F1 driven by a James Bond knock off. But playing it again nowadays, he's pretty freaking good, super fast and agile without having 1 point on amor and his special is great for perma freeza cheese with freeze missiles and freeze remote bombs, it's kinda insane how fun it is to give tha AI their on medicine.
With Orbital it's possible to evade Sweet Tooth's special attack (God tier my ass LOL) without using turbo, the car is fast enough to do the job, the green clown might probably still hit you, but the red and blue clowns are pretty much useless
Good call giving Sweet Tooth his own tier. He was such a menace. Calypso was my go to with how satisfying his special was if you could manage to land the full effect. As usual, enjoyed the video! Keep it up!
I totally agree. I feel the controls could've been a bit more optimized, they feel kind of sticky to me. Just a few more months of development would've had this game easily at the top of the series for the majority of people, I'm sure. As someone who used to play Orbital a lot, you forgot to mention his that special attack does no damage. This may deter some players from picking him especially for single player or versus. However if you’re playing co-op, Orbital’s special can help set up for your partner who’s using a character with a high damage special that’s hard to hit with. (General Warthog’s special for example)
But, Orbital's wires from his special does do damage. Very minor though. If you have Mr. Slamm from behind and use his special, it become a grappling hook of sorts.
You know i love this game so so much. I grew up with this one more than the 2nd one as i never saw a copy of it. I never thought it was so different until way later in life.
Fun fact: Microblast was the only car I was able to beat the game with using no cheats 😂 His high speed and handling is able to outrun Sweet Tooth's special (I didn't know about teleporting at the time)
The only way to beat Sweet Tooth is staying 1000 yards away from him anyway using Mines I guess Micro has an advantage that hes so fuckin hard to shoot
I wish Outlaw and Darkside and Primeval and Crimson Fury and Hammerhead were contestants in TM4. Primeval right off the bat would be S or A tier. And by the way, Meter Maid’s special on rapid fire gameshark code will immediately place her way above S tier. She basically kills the game with it.
you should take in count the weight of each vehicle for your tier lists as this is something very important in terms of difficulty of the game, goggle eyes is the lightest car and if you combine a mortar with a ram or quatro's microwave special you can launch him out of bounds and have him killed, this happens with many other vehicles. great video.
Thumper was strong because of how low he was. The rams had a lot of bounce as a result. You can create scenarios by using ricochet bombs to pop them up a little. Moon Buggy special is fun. Had it kill someone and trail off but also drag someone off into a death wall. Surprised you didn't mention the custom car special weapons. The funny bomb is really powerful on direct hit with the multiple mini explosions.
2:17 Small correction, Quatro's Special doesn't set enemies on fire. Super Axel's the one that does that. Even if I don't agree with Quatro being that low in the tier list, I appreciate people giving TM4 some love, as the third and fourth game in the series are usually seen as the black sheep of the PS1 saga (they're not perfect games, but 1, 2 and SB also have their problems). Most underatted in series! I actually think that Minion from TW2 is stronger than Sweet Tooth from TW4. If you know what you doing you can kill opponent in 2 sec!
Meter Maid's special is S tier. She literally drains life. You can hit multiple opponents at once and gain health really fast! I freeze enemies and gain so much health from her special. AND you start with 6 of her specials! BROKEN.
I agree with the S and A tiers but some of the lower tier cars should be switched. Meter Maid should be higher is she gets her health back, Goggle Eyes should be lower because he isn’t that good and his special is only ok. Great list none the less!

I can see that you dont "barrage" The enemies properly as TM4 allows it. How to make: - Load your car with ammo, but dont get remotes or proximity, only missiles. - Freeze a poor guy - Trigger repeatedly as fast as you can L1 and R1 on the target. You'll fire everything you had at machinegun speed on The oponent. You can delete any enemy with this.

My favorite TM of all time!!!.... I dont care what other people say. The soundtrack, vehicles, gameplay, whacky physics, stages and the CARNIVAL!!!! its all soo perfect!!!!
The lower rank cars reflect the problem I have with this game. It's not that their specials do low damage, more like every weapon in the game does, but they are the most noticeable (quatro, pizza boy, etc). I would go as far as saying that even Calypso's special doesn't do that much damage. Another problem is that this game takes the longest in the franchise to recharge specials, regardless if they are strong or weak. Pair universal low damage and long special recharge times and some vehicles become the bottom of the barrel.
For co op i would agree with orbital but for playing dms vs friends or Ai Hard mode i would put Mr Zombie above him. One freeze and especial pared with your starting items and you have one enemy down. And how about the created ones? Liked and sub. Amazing video.
I loved landing a freeze with calypso on the taller enemies then firing a nuke straight in. if you land the nuke, they don't get blown away, instead they stay there melting and it can 1shot 3 armor enemies like goggle eyes.
Oh man the memories. TM4 is the first game that I have played in my childhood. I would cheat and exclusively use moonbuggy or crusher to harass enemies. I didnt like sweet tooth because even as a kid with a power trip, I found his special disgustingly powerful. Plus i find the clown scary. (I always skip the intro movie because i hate seeing sweet tooth) The more I played i got a bit mature about it and didnt use cheats. I have found orbital and pizza boy in my comfort zone. But i played more of Smawl Brawl than 4 because that game was less scary for little ol me. Trapper was my favourite because monkey = funny.
Great list. I used to play this as a kid and would only pick Sweet Tooth, Minion, and Calypso for some reason. I always loved picking Calypso cause Sweet Tooth and Minion felt way too cheap, at least you had to aim that nuke at people.

As a kid I could never beat Sweet Tooth no matter what vehicle I used. I tried everyone expect for the one that I thought would be my least favorite and most boring, Micro Blast. I ended up beating the game for the first time and on the first try using Micro blast.
I disagree with the Quatro pick. Ramming into bosses while using special is a legit tactic to one shot bosses. It can sometimes get knockback similar to the levels of the proximity mine cheese. I killed Sweet Tooth with it.
Wow, you ranked high a lot of car's that other's would had ranked as low. RC car was surprising as a higher rank. It gets so much hatred in the community. I for one found RC Car intimidating due to its aggression as a boss type when fighting against him. Ironically enough. I'm a bit bias as i tend to like grabber type vehicles. They're my specialty. My preferred method of attack. That being said, Moon Buggy is my personal favorite choice. Love his design and just everything about it. This is one of my favorite twisted metals.
You know, Diesel 10 would’ve been an excellent TM4 boss. His hydraulic claw named Pinchy would be his special and it would act like Crusher and Mr. Slam. His battlecries would be lines from Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

Orbital actually stronger or at least close to sweeth tooth imo bcs sweet tooth special can't match hyperspace cooldown but orbital's is faster as far as I remember, I could be wrong tho, both are likely to one shot you(tho sweet tooth can do it with much less resources undoubtly) if you don't blind or teleport but orbital's special recharge much much faster and ig has more charges
I disagree with the tierlist, mostly. You are forgetting a super important factor in TM4 which is being able to avoid enemy fire by being small and having good handling. Thats why i would put microblast in tier B, i agree with Orbiral though, and disagree with calypso. Its so easy to kill by being hit because of his size, same with moon buggy. My point of view is from a gameplay in "hard"(or immortal), where cpu focuses you a lot and you have a much higher chance to pass the game with orbital than with moon buggy or any bigger car. You can dodge much more freeze misiles with microblast than with... Calypso, and that is súper important in a high level of gameplay. :)
I feel you put Quatro way too far down the list. The special is an AOE that does damage over time, which works amaxing with Quatro's for drive by harassment. Zip in, light a bunch of enemies on fire, never stop moving as you sweep on to the next section. Similar with Grimm. He always hit hard enough he worked well. Calypso is amazing.

The good: The speed is the best of the best (you can scape from Sweet Tooth's Special with turbo easily), it dodges missiles very well and the Special is decent. The bad: The armor is the worst (2 landmines and you're almost over), aiming with it is is not easy and it demands a lot of practice.
How do you rank super slamm over trash man? Trash man is the only one of those 4 cars that actually has a character so I think that by default makes him the top of that list

Crusher is so good; being able to control enemy's movement and throw them into hazards is so fun! Also he does disgusting damage with mortars
Some of the best entertainment I've gotten out of this game is using crusher/slamm, freezing somebody, and then tossing them off the map, lol
in TM4 u can grab an enemy, then spam Next Weapon + Use Weapon buttons and kill almost anyone in few seconds, it's bonkers!

I didnt like sweet tooth because even as a kid with a power trip, I found his special disgustingly powerful. Plus i find the clown scary. (I always skip the intro movie because i hate seeing sweet tooth)
The more I played i got a bit mature about it and didnt use cheats. I have found orbital and pizza boy in my comfort zone.
But i played more of Smawl Brawl than 4 because that game was less scary for little ol me. Trapper was my favourite because monkey = funny.
I never knew Metermaid gained health from her special. Tmyk
Great list. I used to play this as a kid and would only pick Sweet Tooth, Minion, and Calypso for some reason. I always loved picking Calypso cause Sweet Tooth and Minion felt way too cheap, at least you had to aim that nuke at people.

@@Fadiopeel it is. You ever play GTA and activate the cheat codes and get to 5 stars? It gets really boring after running circles around the cops lol. That's what minion and sweet tooth felt like, just way too overpowered.
Pizza Boy is the only car with decent handling I can think of also his Special attack is very strong not like he says
As a kid I could never beat Sweet Tooth no matter what vehicle I used. I tried everyone expect for the one that I thought would be my least favorite and most boring, Micro Blast. I ended up beating the game for the first time and on the first try using Micro blast.
I disagree with the Quatro pick. Ramming into bosses while using special is a legit tactic to one shot bosses. It can sometimes get knockback similar to the levels of the proximity mine cheese. I killed Sweet Tooth with it.
When I was a kid my older brother banned me from playing orbital cause I embarrassed him in front of his friends
In multiplayer micro blast would be a tier considering minion spec and freezes are very hard to land on him
That's true, he can be really hard to hit with weapons that home, let alone precision weapons
My fav is Mr. Zombie. The combination of Freeze + Special + Auto Lob is a mortal attack.
Mine is Super Thumper, Freeze + Special + any weapon is devastating 😂👌

RC car was surprising as a higher rank. It gets so much hatred in the community. I for one found RC Car intimidating due to its aggression as a boss type when fighting against him. Ironically enough.
I'm a bit bias as i tend to like grabber type vehicles. They're my specialty. My preferred method of attack.
That being said, Moon Buggy is my personal favorite choice. Love his design and just everything about it.

You know, Diesel 10 would’ve been an excellent TM4 boss. His hydraulic claw named Pinchy would be his special and it would act like Crusher and Mr. Slam. His battlecries would be lines from Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

Orbital actually stronger or at least close to sweeth tooth imo bcs sweet tooth special can't match hyperspace cooldown but orbital's is faster as far as I remember, I could be wrong tho, both are likely to one shot you(tho sweet tooth can do it with much less resources undoubtly) if you don't blind or teleport but orbital's special recharge much much faster and ig has more charges
Super slam’s special makes no sense how is it able to hold enemies with what it has much less slam it up and down
1:55 You could've hyperspace'd and get calypso later for being a big hitbox dummy

I disagree with the tierlist, mostly. You are forgetting a super important factor in TM4 which is being able to avoid enemy fire by being small
and having good handling. Thats why i would put microblast in tier B, i agree with Orbiral though, and disagree with calypso. Its so easy to kill by being hit because of his size, same with moon buggy. You won't have special always available.

My point of view is from a gameplay in "hard"(or immortal), where cpu focuses you a lot and you have a much higher chance to pass the game with orbital than with moon buggy or any bigger car. You can dodge much more freeze misiles with microblast than with... Calypso, and that is súper important in a high level of gameplay.

I feel you put Quatro way too far down the list. The special is an AOE that does damage over time, which works amaxing with Quatro's for drive by harassment. Zip in, light a bunch of enemies on fire, never stop moving as you sweep on to the next section.
Similar with Grimm. He always hit hard enough he worked well.

In my opinion, it is an A.
The good: The speed is the best of the best (you can scape from Sweet Tooth's Special with turbo easily), it dodges missiles very well and the Special is decent.
The bad: The armor is the worst (2 landmines and you're almost over), aiming with it is is not easy and it demands a lot of practice.
How do you rank super slamm over trash man?
Trash man is the only one of those 4 cars that actually has a character so I think that by default makes him the top of that list
