ORIGINAL Japan drift vlog from 2007! *read description*

- Back in 2007, before I moved to Japan, I worked for a car magazine in Australia that also made DVDs. This is an edit of a trip I made to Japan that never made it to a published DVD. The idea was to buy a car and drift it at Ebisu Circuit. It was originally meant to have voiceovers and music, but since I'm missing a few tapes-worth of footage, because I left the company almost immediately after this trip and never had a chance to make the final video, I thought I'd just edit up what I had and put it up here for posterity. Enjoy!

Yep this is 2000s
I love it man
Looks like they were being filmed on some vx2100s or something too 🤘🤙
I swear it looked like this in real life too
Bland? This is the most vivid grading I've seen in a long time!
Good times
Looked like Drift Jesus back then
As soon as the video started I thought this exact thing.
You made my day
JDM Jesus
🤣
First Gun Jesus from Forgotten Weapons And now Noriyaro is the new JDM Jesus
I like how the Japanese Police Man removes his gloves to handshake
A little yet big attention to detail
Back when corona wasnt a thing
i didnt notice that detail lolol

More than john lennon, he looks like Shinigami from Initial D
Something oddly satisfying about watching these early 2000's videos, it seems as if things were simpler back then even though it wasn't that long ago.
Your Japanese friends helping with the cars seam like the coolest people out there. Hope they’re in good health and still having fun
doesnt he still go to that shop
@…… yep!! His mail gets sent there from overseas and he filmed some of his new S15 videos there.
There's something about the old school camera look that feels more real than the modern near-perfect cameras with their active color correction and all that. Really, really cool video, thanks Alexi.
Precisely.
It feels more human I guess
Imo everything was more genuine back then, now almost anything you look at lost its `soul` just a pretty cover.
You know when you think about it. I feel that can be attributed to a lot of things. Maybe things just start off organic and "real" but as time passes. More players enter the game. The formula of early success is replicated and becomes easier to duplicate. Which mean the quality and originality of the content becomes less and less. Until finally the thing, be it a genre of music ,a new sport or art movement. Slowly becomes bogged down in mediocrity.
With the system that comes into place doing it's best to keep anything that might spark the thing back to originality from ever coming into own.
You want an example of what I'm talking about? You need look no further than the very site we are on right now in this comment section.

The worst part of this video is that it is only 17 minutes long!

The thing that's even harder to believe is that 2007 was 13 darned years ago, tbh

Pure Drifting
Was wondering why they didn't fix that

Everywhere else's safety regulations: DOT Helmet, Roll cage, 12 Point Harness, Nomex & Kevlar bodysuit and gloves, medics in ambulance every other corner.
Japan safety regulations: Orange gloves, Hardhat.

I miss old cameras with global shutter. Made the action look way better.
Lochlan Hughes Yeah I agree!!! Unfortunately your only global shutter option these days is a Canon C700 GS or a Sony F55!
Why did global shutters disappear?
@@spencervalek2173 Mainly because of the move from CCD to CMOS sensors. It's possible to make global shutter CMOS sensors but they seem to be less light sensitive

Thank you for this alexi, its like a time capsule to 2000's japanese drifting.
This is so rad. It's incredible to see how much Ebisu has changed and how much has stayed the same over the years.
this just gives me nostalgia for some reason (i think i miss 2000s youtube )
Lain gang
Seeing cars drift with stock steering angle is so impressive. That downhill portion on Ebisu looks so much more intimidating in this video
The guy at the end just straight sending it. With only a string holding on his hardhat.. and no rollcage.. legend.
I wonder what hes doing now
Probably running his 240sx with no doors, so he can touch tires of cars doing tandems beside him
The guy at the end is still drifting it up. You must look for an episode abroad in Japan, most dangerous sport. The British guy goes to ebisu and meets noriyaro and the hardhat guy gives him a ride.
@@aaronsanchezz its rii-chan!
This one brings back memories from when I lived in Japan in the mid '80s-90s. The beat up cheap cars and red-stripe plates.... fun times in the hills of Aomori-ken. Got down to Ebisu a couple of times for drifting and to take the little ones to the drive-thru zoo.
You were after it even back then ! Steep angles, lots of smoke and linking it up like at 13:03 ! Thank you for digging this out and sharing it with us. Great days to you Alexi !

I kinda wonder where all the hands-on car gals seem to have gone. They're around in older videos and stuff, don't see so much in recent stuff. (Maybe the horsepower and tire budgets just got too ridiculous. The old-school techniques are more appealing, I think. :) )
She's really adorable
13 years ago! Great drifting, really makes me happy to see you chasing your dreams all these years later! One of the best videos I’ve seen yet
One of the best videos you’ve put up hands-down! What a different place this was 13 years ago.
