    The M600 is what I always wanted Piper to build. I flew the Meridian, but it just did not have the range. The longer legs on the M600 make it much more practical.

    Steering this aircraft on the ground is by using the rudder which is also linked to the front gear as well as differential braking on the main gear. Handles fairly nicely on the ground, but is no BMW ;-)

    I'm intrigued what your thoughts would be on a constant 3-degree descent profile from TOD, through the approach, to landing. Flying RPT in Australia, at least with my employer, we're required to do this for pax comfort and fuel efficiency purposes, but it's not something I see much of on American youtube flights. Is "dive and drive" the norm? Genuinely curious.

    • @alpenpilot2429

      Going up, we had some pretty vicious headwinds, so if I recall we did about 3 hour legs. Stops in Bellingham, Yakutat, and Anchorage. Coming back we had a little bit of a tail wind, so made it nonstop just under 1900 nautical miles in if I recall six hours and 45 minutes. No bathroom on board, just little chemical travel John’s. Those come in handy when necessary

  • @jonthepilot6924

    Is there no hardwired backup for the gear indicator lights?

    • @alpenpilot2429
      @alpenpilot2429  Před 5 lety +3

      Actually no hardwired gear information. However the gear can be displayed on any of the 3, 12 inch displays, which are on separate busses, so would be extremely unlikely to get a 3 screen failure. If in doubt, you could always do an emergency gear extension, and assume that you get 3 down and locked. Bad day if you lose all the primary screens ;-)

    • @alpenpilot2429
      @alpenpilot2429  Před 4 lety +1

      These M600's have been awesome for us. We are on our second one, and have been from Mexico to Alaska and all 4 corners of the lower 48, and have just loved it. Comfortable, efficient, capable and lots of range. Can do Anchorage to Salt Lake City 1900 nm non-stop with a light tail wind. No complaints so far :-)

      @@alpenpilot2429 thanks so much for the reply. It certainly seem an extremely versatile aircraft with great reliability and presurisation from the turbine and none of the disadvantages/costs of a twin. Having it built and supported by a main manufacturer instead being a conversion would be for me at least be a major plus. 👍👍

  • @curtisjmwc

    So cool! So when you are in IMC with a glass cockpit, do you not really have to “scan your gauges” any more? Don’t you just fly the little fake video game airplane in the PFD? I mean at least most of the time?

    • @alpenpilot2429
      @alpenpilot2429  Před 5 lety +2

      You really just have a slight different scan. All the 6-pack information is there, in a slightly different format. Should also periodically cross check against the other primary flight display and backup instruments. When the workload is high though, yeah, it is kind of like looking at a video game ;-)

    • @Mikinct

    • @alpenpilot2429
      @alpenpilot2429  Před 6 lety +8

      We had 60-80 knots on the nose for around half the flight on the way up which really slowed us down, so we made a stop in Bellingham WA and Yakutat AK, overflying Canada so we didn't have to clear customs. On the way back with a little push we went Anchorage all the way back to Ogden non-stop. 1865 nm in 6:45. Being a single engine we followed the coastline around instead of direct over the ocean.
