This was fantastic! Thank you so much for doing a much needed deep dive into Diamond buses! Fingers crossed the improvements are kept up!

The Dunn family have always been a red flag when it comes to bus companies. Starting with Dunn Line which was not rubbish but was nothing special. Then came Yourbus which created competition with other bus companies in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire by provided new buses and cheaper fares. The problem that plagued Yourbus was time with buses mostly being late. Youbus eventually collapsed from finance problems with most of the buses ending up at Diamond. And everyone across the country knows how bad Diamond is

This is brilliant documentary buses are still not very reliable prices have gone up and some drivers are rude and some drivers are lovely. We definitely need more bus services they should only have a school bus for the school children and for then normal bus services for public. Something needs to change now buses used to be great when First bus were in Redditch but now diamond have taken over it’s gone crap.

That logic is great, if you want to pay up more money for the bus services. Merging schools and normal service means that operators have more sources of income into the route and that makes it more viable to run.
If you take the school kids off the bus, the bus will end up being cut as often it's the revenue from the school journeys (either school journeys on that route or school journeys on another route which the bus does before and after doing the normal route) which cover the losses made by the normal route.

    Fabulous👍🏻😊
I hope they continue to improve in many ways, they deff have a long way to go.
I’ve been a car driver for 33 years, when I’ve used the bus to go to work, I’ve witnessed on many occasions the bus drivers dangerously speeding, some of the drivers taking £ but not giving tickets, letting their friends on for free, with some the language barrier is a massive problem, also chatting to their friends at the front of the bus which isn’t allowed and clearly says on every bus by means of a sign. Having the heating on during the Summer and very cold in Winter.

Try a video on Kidderminster busses. Old, dirty busses always breaking down , scruffy drivers. Looks like it’s a common subject with diamond.

The Johnstons buses don’t go into Redditch anymore. They put them on contract now and that’s all they do is the X11. Most of the Johnstons fleet has now gone to other depots so we’re back to the old fleet again. I went yesterday and it was just a very sorry state

This bus company should be closed down they’re a law un to themselves. Dangerous buses, long duties, and no structure. They have huge staffing turn overs due to how unprofessional they are, drivers tired to death due to ridiculously long hours.
They’ve sacked drivers for coming to work drunk then sent them home and had them come back once under the legal drive limits. Drivers who have been dismissed for being caught on their phone whilst driving a bus then reinstated! The director at tividale is a bully and unprofessional and should not be in the job. One of the worst companies to ever work for.
I’ve reported them numerous times to the traffic commissioner for continuous breakdowns, buses not running and dangerous practice’s for example a steering wheel coming off an optare solo in service one time. I could write an endless list!
It’s about time something was done!!

Great video and solid work. The reality is Diamond needs to work on the absolute basics of providing a bus service. Enough quality buses being sent out at correct intervals with drivers who know how to operate a bus and respect customers. It shouldn't be that hard and there doesn't have to be any fancy apps. It felt like the councilor missed the mark on identifying what was wrong, its not apps that are needed but pressure on Diamond to improve their below average service and if they don't, seek out new operators by giving them an incentive to come into the town. The fact that Diamond has this monopoly may be the key aspect as to why they have such poor performance. There is no threat of competition or any reason to bolster the quality. They know the users of buses in Redditch have no choice but to use them. This is where the council could step in and introduce fines for Diamond if they fail to provide an adequate service. I might be wrong on this but perhaps the deregulation mentioned prevents councils from doing so? Unfortunately, the wider picture of Redditch is generally quite bleak, the town centre is suffering with more regression than progression, the only positive economic aspect has been the Amazon depot being built. And because of this it seems unlikely any other bus company will be willing to invest, especially if there is no chance of making good money. Ultimately, pressure needs to be put on by Diamond by both the Redditch customers and the council, proving that just because Diamond is the only bus service they cant get away with a shoddy and not up to par service.

Councils can't issues fines to bus operators except for on supported services but the traffic commissioner can. Report to the DVSA and Traffic Commissioner, they will monitor the situation and if needed, fine or put conditions on the operators licence.

    Typical politician... Full of 💩
I remember as far back as the midland red bus service in Redditch, and then First, both were great, how did it go from that great service to a absolutely diabolical joke of a company that is Diamond? Not to mention that the diamond drivers practically rob the public by not giving change. Unless they implicate better training and pay the drivers more money so they actually give a 💩 then the service will never change because they have no competition. All I can say is that learning to drive has been the best thing I have done in my life so far, but my poor boyfriend has to use the bus service and I can't tell you how many hours of his life he has wasted waiting for diamond buses, so many times he's called me and he's absolutely livid with them.
Great documentary, I just hope they do change 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤞🏻
