      It's not original though. I heard it well before Aliens came out. It was usually attributed to Tallulah Bankhead. She was an actress, notorious for her personal life, but also for having a very deep and husky voice. A cheeky reporter asked her if she'd ever been mistaken for a man, prompting the "no, have you?" response. The delivery in the movie is indeed clunky and awkward.

    "Maybe they don't show up on infrared at all." She's exactly right. Because the Xenomorphs have acid for blood, they don't show up on infrared vision. You have to use a different kind of electromagnetic wavelength sensor to detect them.

    • @s.anthonyulibarri2488
      @s.anthonyulibarri2488 Před 3 lety +8

      Infrared detects HEAT. The aliens exoskeleton may mask the heat of their body. All it takes to show up on infrared is to be warmer than your surroundings. So somehow the aliens are able to mask that. Perhaps the acid for blood also helps reduce their body temperature. Keep in mind that if they are colder than their surroundings though they would show up as a darker splotch in infrared. So they would have to actually match the surrounding temperature. You are right a different spectrum might help and although it is not cannon, in AvP the Youtja do have a different setting other than infrared that allows them to see the xenomorphs as a green outline.

    3:57 About Bishop's "knife trick": The director saw Lance Henriksen do that off camera and put it in to make "the artificial person" that much more "alien." 6:50 If you haven't seen "Newt" before, you're watching the theatrical version. The Special Edition "Aliens" has more content that increases the drama and gravitas to "Aliens." (It's much better.) When I first saw this "short version," I wondered how Ripley was able to connect with Newt so quickly. "Sisterhood" didn't explain it, and the SE version showed that there had been an "Amanda Ripley" in her life. 7:56 Here's where the Special Edition of "Alien" breaks the story. In the theatrical version, Ripley didn't find Brett and Dallas, so doesn't know what those structures are. (In any case, she stayed on the "Nostromo" and didn't explore the derelict.) 15:35 Continuing jeopardy. 16:43 And now for something completely different...

    Aliens is one of my favourite movies of all time, nearly everything is done perfectly - and holy crap, what a character arc Ripley has: facing down her literal nightmare and fighting hard as nails to defeat it. I also love that growth you see in her, small details like not being able to fire a Pulse Rifle at the start to being taught, using it badly then becoming a bad arse - those steps just make her so much grittier and real.
    A few neat movie facts! To get the cat to hiss on queue, they actually grabbed a 2nd cat (I'm going to guess that wasn't familiar to the on screen cat) and moved it closer to it.
    Also, when Bishop does his knife move, apparently the actor did it for real without the film being sped up!
    The Queen Alien wasn't designed by H.R Giger like the original Alien, but was done by James Cameron and Stan Winston (the creator of Special Effects company that worked on this and so many other great movies)
    I, personally, wouldn't recommend any of the future Alien movies. The next is ok as a stand alone movie, but as a continuation of Aliens it was ... disappointing for me (No spoilers!)

    Some feel that Ripley broke the silent agreement held with the alien queen. In that tense scene, here's a quick recap of what led to their showdown. Ripley, attempting to escape the underbelly of the atmosphere processor installation, finds herself taking a different turn on the way back to the elevators and stumbles upon the alien queen's egg chamber. The alien queen unsurprisingly grows hostile quickly, but Ripley shows she's not to be threatened by releasing a few gouts of flame just over her eggs before aiming directly at the eggs and locking her gaze back on the queen. The queen understands the threat, and waves off her sentinels in a moment of "Fine, but get the hell out of my room."
    Then as Ripley is backing out of the room, the alien queen triggers one of her eggs to open behind Ripley, in what can only be assumed to be a sneaky attempt to subdue Ripley and grow her brood. Ripley isn't having it. Her demeanor shifts from one of apprehension and fear to betrayal, annoyance and rage. She unloads her rifle everywhere in the room, decimating the hatchery, sending the queen into a rage. Ripley escapes, and the queen (with her nest in ruins and brood severely crippled) detaches from her damaged egg casing and takes off after her.
    Ripley is totally justified, since the queen broke the unspoken pact first by trying to infect Ripley with a facehugger. But after Ripley's response, its understandable why she'd also be totally justified in trying to destroy Ripley. Its a wonderful demonstration of how you can tell a story without words. Its a powerful moment filled with tension and makes a great catalyst for a showdown between the 2 leading ladies :)

    The reason Ripley didn't know what they were seeing is because in the original theatrical release of Alien in 1979, the scene with her cocooned crew was cut out. That was new for this movie. On using trees to help terraform: Before you can use trees to make oxygen, you have to make the planet friendly to trees. Just like if there's not enough oxygen for us, there might not be enough carbon dioxide and certainly not enough light for trees. There may not be any topsoil anywhere yet. You can't grow trees in sand and rock. On how strong the face huggers are, that's shown in Prometheus with a different kind of face hugger. I would liken the strength of its tail to a boa constrictor's.

The scene when Ripley see’s Dallas for the final time was one of the scenes that was cut out in the theatrical release. Also there is also a director’s cut of this movie that adds an additional 20 or so minutes to the movie. Some of the lost scenes in the director’s cut lead to the creation of one of the most underrated survival horror games Alien Isolation. It’s a great game.
