Still my go-to ship for when I get the "can't eat or drink" bug. I also have a good system for ROC mining, I close/open the doors using the hotkey from the cockpit. That being said, once I got tired of ROC mining and just grinded bunkers, even the Pisces was fine. In the end, much like the Steel, I feel like the Red is going to be relegated to being primarily an NPC ship as the game continues development.
Yeah the real issue is how often you just die instead of going into more of a fallen state which no bed will help, but yes you are correct you can get stabilized.
As an ambulance, this ship is focused on rescuing those injured and transferring them to a medical facility. ANY medical bed stabilizes a person with NO further need of attention, unlike any medpen or medgun wielding person. That is the primary long term benefit of having the two medical bed, especially in the future when medical attention may be very far away. It's added ability of fully healing minor [level 3] injuries is very helpful, as many recent injuries by my team adventures had been there since CIG reconfigured the injury tables. It's smaller size and VTOL are an added boon to other larger medical ships of the future, and may be more common with PC and NPC due to its lower cost. and the Size of the Scanner alone will give it fantastic range for its size.
Even as an SC skeptic, I like my Red way more then the Black I used to have. Its faster, you don't need missiles if You not getting into any stand up fights and you need to pay for missile resupply too. and who wastes time shooting at an ambulance with only 14SCU of cargo? The one thing its missing IMO is a couple jump seats for rescued people to sit in and not get thrown to the floor during sudden stops when you're racing their buddies to the ER. Or maybe Drake designed it that way on purpose so you can get a few more patients with every run?
I love my cutty red, the med beds come in handy for prolonged runs and the ability to just go help people makes me feel better. You can get into combat but it doesn't go too well sometimes. I'll be sad to see it get left behind a little when the apollo comes out
@@CasaBLACK Absolutely, med gameplay is a nice gameplay niche that could be fleshed out and expanded. Lot of other stuff too but we'll just have to wait and see, looking forward to not only playing but the reviews that come with it.
I doubt it would feel "left behind" to still use it. Just as our cute mini-clinic Pincses, the Cutlass Red is still better to handle as the Apollo for a single player and has its own feel to it - though as long as the Apollo will be as big as the concept shows. Actually I think the Apollo is the ship that will feel rather strange IF you're solo, just as any of those bigger ships feel like wasted possibilities and just.. strange if you're using them alone.
And now with the respawn back again the Red becomes an incredible daily driver. This week I’ll finish my Apollo CCU chain ( based on my Blue) which will give me a Red as a loaner so looking forward to running around in the Red.
Excellent review. I didn't like the Cutty when it first came out and thought it was ugly. I flew with a crew on a Black after the first rework of that series and fell in love with it and own all of them now. The Black IMO is the only one worth real money. The only exception is when they had the Cutty pack with all of them in a bundle with LTI for ~500 when the Steel came out. The red was worth money when it was a respawn point but not anymore, its cheap enough to buy with aUEC. I think CIG made a mistake tying bed tiers to respawn ability and should have been a separate ability. Having said that it is an ambulance which only treats things a doctor is not required for and to stabilize patients until they can get treated at a more advanced facility, so it does do that. It does need something special or the Appolo will outshine it, maybe the scanners and docking collar adapters will do that. I like your suggestion of being able to carry specialized medical cargo to add to its utility and versatility. The reason the Blue costs more is because it has a quantum jammer that prevents nearby ships from activating quantum drives when active. It is a tougher tackler than the Mantis but can't pull ships out of quantum, only prevents going into QD. The Cuttys are solid for people that like to dabble in a few things with fewer ships. While it is not the best in a dogfight it does have an edge over some ships in certain maneuvers because of the main engines moving for VTOL mode which moves forward/reverse thrust power to strafe up/down. The Cutty and Prospector in VTOL mode decoupled can out climb most fighters in a jack-in-the-box maneuver. Look for Avenger One's vids on them and taking out fighters even in the Prospector
Yeah they are a more of a novelty I think for people who just really love Drake and want to do a little of this and a little of that but not excel in most of the things they can do. I happen to just like the look of them as they stand out and I would like more ships that look sort of like they are cobbled together and almost don't make sense that they can even fly by looking at them. The Corsair really fits this look and I hope I enjoy it as a new daily driver to replace my Taurus, even though it won't have the cargo capacity of the Taurus, but we shall see.
As the game develops it is interesting to see how ships' roles evolve. A couple ships that we enjoy flying and that also get it done is what every space man needs.
I love thinking about the uses we will have in a full playerbase pu. Using the cutlass red to transport wounded to your fleets medical ship with a fully staffed crew. I wonder if we as the playerbase will respect medical units in battle as they did in world war 1 with the unwritten rule of not shooting medics tending to wounded.
Just give the red's bed tier 2 healing capabilities, when the beds are men controlled: this will give the crew something to do and increase the utility of the ship. Respawn could be left out.The nose bending of the cutlass has been removed: it is not about sticks or other.
I also was robbed when I got the red. I want to get the Apollo of that modular one that can become a hospital. I think the idea of a pharmacy is a good idea.
This was my FAV for everything but VHRT until 3.16 the spawn bed was Mega even for ROC mining. Now its more of a novelty until we get those hover bed we hopefully can airlift injured.
Agreed, med gameplay is a mess right now and even though the beds can stabilize injuries, for smaller teams of 1-2 we usually find ourselves dying before we can use that function.
I couldn't agree more. I'm basically a new player, about a week now although I first pledged in 2018 but found it unplayable then. I quickly found the Cutlass Black to be an amazing Swiss Army knife that is my go-to. The Medical gameplay is interesting to me too however I think the Cutlass Red's Medical beds are anemic for the size of the ship. I think the C8 Pieces should be a tier less functional than the Cutlass Red. Just a noobs opinion.
Noob or not, I agree. I know salvaging and ship tractor beams are going to the next hot ticket items that gain attention, but I really hope they jump in and work on more medical gameplay even if just to do some QoL fixes.
The original plan for the Cutty Red was that it would use its scanner to find rescue beacons but the current system allows you to see exactly where the person is anyway. Perhaps it will come in useful for special missions where you must find injured NPCs, similar to the ship search missions we have (had?) where it asked you to go to a wreck and find all ten dead crewmembers. Another thing in the original medical gameplay announcement was that the Cutty Red would use drones to fetch people floating injured in space and bring them back via the side doors. I suspect that plan has been abandoned but maybe not.
Agree with the suggestion. I would go as far to say either (1) move both beds so they can fit in the middle/starboard/right side, or (2) just drop one of the beds. THEN on the left/port side put in a "clean" medical/science room with some medical science stuff, refrigeration units, a shower, a rack for med-guns and medical supplies, and possibly even a planter (just throwing out ideas). In this room you can properly store (like you suggested) and synthesize basic medicines and treatments you can then deliver (as medical supplies) to areas in need. As an extended mission that might include getting X -cure which may require you to make it (or buy it), deliver the goods, then heal some sick people around the town. I don't think this would step on the toes of exploration/science vessels who could make better stuff, perform ALL kinds of science/exploration (not just medical), and generally explore areas. Honestly I would say the Reliant Sen, should get in on this same loop (along with the usual suspects Carrack, Odyssey, Endeavor, Apollo).
Love it and it's needed. The new Pisces released today kind of makes this ship useless other than the fact that the Red is better at defending itself. The new Pisces sure is fast though so it really can get away. I had to quickly leave an area when a Hammerhead showed up to a mission I was doing and began firing.
I used to run a whole Cutty fleet; Black, Blue, Red. All 3 have been replaced. The Black and Blue collectively became a Corsair, and the final nail in the Red coffin for me was the new Pisces. it's a bummer, because I LOVE the Cutty platform, but the beds are just too weak for the Red to be worthwile.
My idea to make all the medships useful is to have the beds each be able to be respawn points but depending on the size depends how often you can respawn. So the pisces would have a respawn time of an hour per use. The cutlass 30 mins per bed, Carrack every 15. Lore wise it could be a recharge timer.
@@CasaBLACK Will it? Does it have to be? There should be a standalone medical ground vehicle. There can also be one specifically designed for the Cutlas Red. You could have it be electric and dependent on the Cutty Red for recharging. I'm just throwing out ideas. Maybe the whole idea is bogus and it's better to fly the ship to any injured body and just wheel a gurney out to it or tractor-beam the body into the hold. Yeah, I think the whole idea of an integrated ground vehicle is just wrong, since I can't think of a use case that would commonly occur to justify it.
I like the cutlass red quite a lot I actually am fine with the layout overall I just want them to put armor lockers, the reason I want armor lockers and keep the bunk beds is because I’d rather not have a science station or any of the parts mentioned because while good ideas sound better for a medical/science vessel. This ship is clearly, even if the armor on it sucks, a combat ambulance.
*** HEY CASABLACK *** Can you please do a load out and maybe pvp/pve technique and or review of the Aegis Eclipse? I searched your videos and didn't see any results. Thank you.
Sure the beds wont help with respawn, but T3 injury is the most common out there. For solo play or dedicated medical gameplay, the Cutty Red is excellent. Yes, you can have pens with you but the average Joe doesnt carry even an opiopen. Thats my experience playing in a dedicated medical org.
I've since done more medical gameplay and these complaints were more focused on what this ship is lacking and while I still stand by that I would like to see this ship have an increased function I do definitely see more of a variety of injuries out in the field.
Figured out this game has a med bed and looked for a review to see if this is a good ship to buy. Sounds like the med bed is worthless with only being able to cure tier 3 injuries so I will not be buying it. Thank you for the good review pointing this out.
Sometimes I feel like even the smallest pebble can take those rear engines right off your ship. When that happens, getting back to a landing pad is such a pain. Particularly if you only lose one of the two. That's my biggest issue with the cutlass. With FPS TTK so low its really not useful right now, like you said. I'm really hoping the Apollo Medivac is a bit tankier at least. I clipped an antenna while leaving a bunker and boom, engine just falls off.
Yeah the engines are terribly easy to lose and it really makes it rough to fly. There's so much more med gameplay could be we just have to wait and yeah even though I want the Apollo I hope it doesnt make the Red obsolete.
They ruined this ship. It's literally useless now. It looks great and I love the idea but now it doesn't work for cargo, combat, roc mining nor for medical gameplay. It's literally a more expensive and less useful cutlass black.

Tier 3 beds also stabilize the patient while transporting to a tier 1 bed. So, still useful for it's intended purpose: space ambulance.
Yeah the real issue is how often you just die instead of going into more of a fallen state which no bed will help, but yes you are correct you can get stabilized.
Great job. This is what I wish other ship reviews offered. Very Very informative

Yeah the red has some wasted space for sure and needs some love.
Get those rescued folk into the bunk beds where they belong to rest for the flight home! If they are walking about send em back into the fight lol
The resource management feature 8:46 did not come in the upcoming year. What a surprise.
Yep I know, but 3rd quarter is now the new propsed time.
I have been thinking of getting this ship for months now, thank you.
Sweet, glad to help and I really like it, just hope med gameplay gets better soon.
The cutlass should be a module ship. It would be so versatile.
Modularity is coming in 2024 so who knows what the future holds :)
My current daily all things considered. Great review. Cutlass series does need a gold pass badly considering how popular they are
For sure, but instead the black gets a price increase in a few days without that gold pass.. *shrugs*
