Steve is a wonderful guy to have as a friend, first. He is a walking encyclopedia of Country music, and he is as talented and intuitive as they come. A monster musician and person. Listen to him and learn, boys and girls. We go back 50 years. I love the guy, truly.

Just that little bit of Webb Pierce voice that Steve imitated…funny.
I asked Steve in a session one time…how many country music stars do you impersonate? Without thinking he said … “Only the ones who’ve fired me.”
Great player and cat to hang with.
I’ve edited this to include a story about Bobbe Seymour… I was doing a session at his studio with Steve one time… And Steve talked about Bobbe was always on the phone… That was so true. Bobbe was engineering this session we were on, and Steve could not get his attention to get more of something turned up in his cue Why? Because Bobbe was on the phone… Eventually Steve Hinson pulled out his big brick cell phone with antenna on it and called the control room and Bobbe answered it and when he did… Steve says… A man can I get more steel in the cue. Funny.

I love how y’all are so reverent (rightly so) about the generation of steel players before you. I have to say, though, you’re both on my Mt.Rushmore of steel players!

right? is there an instrument where its players are more reverent towards their influences and heroes than the steel guitar? it’s an amazing community.
