I remember seeing Rainbow for the first time in Brighton UK in 1980 I was 17, They opened with this really atmospheric track song. My mate (Paul) and I were able to rush in and get to the very front under Blackmore unforgettable. Had been a Blackmore fan of his for about 4 years at the time. The one thing I will say about RB. is whilst a lot of people consider him an A--hole, I believe it is all about the MUSIC and making new music. Lets face it he could have been travelling the world playing Lazy, Smoke and Highway Star for the last 35 years with DP. Instead he has consistently released NEW music.
"Eyes of the World" is from the same album as "Since You Been Gone", which was a radio hit for them back in 1979. I think I have it on vinyl, but could be cassette. It's been a long time and my archives are packed away. "Eyes of the World" is a popular song title. Wikipedia lists five different songs by five different artists with that title. My first thought was to the Grateful Dead song, but there's also a Fleetwood Mac song. A book with that title was written back in 1914 and a movie was made from it in 1930 but the film is now lost. I suspect those earlier works kept the title alive and the different artists riffed on the phrase in their own ways, filling up the contents with their imaginations.
Finally someone has reacted to this song, Thank you Tre. Every song on this album was great, if you want one with an infectoius groove check out Makin` love or a rocker then Danger zone is for you. Singer Graham Bonnet had a great solo hit with Night games too, I dont know if you`ve checked that out yet.
Glorious song right up there with Lost in Hollywood for me.Another great vocal performance from Graham Bonnet though would have loved to have seen the GOAT RJD try this
Don't forget Doogie White, he is often missed and has a couple great songs on the "Stranger in us All" album. There is Ronnie Romero as well, but no albums
Agreed. Each added their own touch to the legacy. Dio is just in a class by himself. Graham Bonnet was amazing in that just when you think his voice is going to be toast, he hits the notes and goes higher. That gruff but in-tune power. Joe Lynn Turner gave a wonderful mix of edge and commercial hit appeal. Great pipes and could be smooth as well.
Graham Bonnet era was pretty good, would have like to see another album from them. Still like the Dio era the best, but Graham filled in well for the commercial direction Ritchie Blackmore wanted to go with his band.
Best track of the album "Down to Earth" which mark a more commercial turn in the music . Graham Bonnet was the perfect transition from Dio to Joe Lynn Turner . The show (1980) in Paris was awesome, Blackmore was awesome . Saw Blackmore few years later with the reformation of Deep Purple . He was just doing the minimum . Obviously bored to death in his corner
This is one that sounds like it could have been written with Dio in mind, but he couldn't have delivered a better vocal than Graham Bonnet does here. Down to Earth is a very good album, the one that finally made Blackmore some money, the vocals are spectacular throughout, and it's a shame Graham Bonnet and Cozy Powell didn't continue with the band.
