First there was Hannibal and his elephants, then the Romans who dealt the first blow to biodiversity with their circus games requiring the sacrifice of a frightening number of animals. The latter were to be the victims of the colonization of the continent: from massacres attributable to Whites to the demographic explosion, which will in turn involve Africans in the inevitable decline of species. It was not until the 19th century that the first provisions in favor of African wildlife appeared.
