Favorite band of all time. Hatred is the pinnacle of extreme metal to me and I still listen to it an unhealthy amount. A few things to note because I'm one of those fuckin nerds you mentioned:
-Yes, the lead singer is a lawyer. Not sure what he specializes in. He spent some time working on death row in Texas iirc, so there's your true crime connection.
-The band had actually had most of the sequel to Hatred for Mankind written and recorded, but the status of those files is unknown. May have been lost. One of the members told me it was nastier than HFM, if you can believe that. Justin Bartlett already created the album artwork for it in the same style as the original.
-There is a video of an unreleased song they performed at Damnation Fest. They said it was only to be played once. Starts at 2:30.
    czcams.com/video/nwERnK_0avU/video.html
    -Fuck Prosthetic records
-The band just opened their own studio in England inside a 140 year old church.

The "post rock" influence is why dis ended up collabing with a unnamed member of bossk on Widowmaker. Also no one has pointed out that the producer of NV was mr Justin K Broadrick of Godflesh/Jesu/Zonal fame.

@@TheHammerofDissidence I remember talking to T about how cool a band December wolves are which I actually find hilarious considering Wyatt is from Boston two of his favriote bands from the UK anaal nathrakh and DIS are both influenced by a band from his own backyard. December wolves were doing the serial killer sample thing before DIS but not as focused there would be samples from movies based on serial killers etc and other stuff, Dragged were a lot more focused with it.

This is probably obvious as hell, and someone already figured this out, but the release date for Plainfield/Monarch of Scum is 11/12/1934 which is the birthdate of Charles Manson. Manson was detained at a boys' home in Plainfield, Indiana before moving around and eventually landing in California. Also the artwork for the song is a picture from the Jonestown Massacre. I didn't even realize the clutter of objects were bodies until I reverse searched it lol. God I love the creepiness of this band. Great video man.

I heard of DIS for the first time seeing them live in 2017 supporting Mayhem and Asphyx. The show was quite appealing to me (esp. them standing with their backs turned to the audience caught my attention) but somehow they didn't impress me enough and they flew under my radar, and that's something that I regret the most, because now I am a huge fan of the band and it's very hard to see them live. I came back to their music when Prosthetic released TA2 and I loved it. Also the ambient part of the song somehow brought me back to the live show I saw and brought the best memories from it. Then I listened to HFM and it blew me away so much that since then it is my all time favorite metal album of all time.

I talked to the band regarding these releases that don't match the info on discogs, particularly about Widowmaker, and what they said is that Prosthetic Records Printed stuff without their knowledge or consent, to sell them "off the record". That's why the copies that are being sold new online, by their merch distributor and others, don't have a catalog number.

I've always thought the true crime aspect regarding the samples in Hatred for Mankind we're incredibly cool and interesting. Like the aspect of murder remained from the death metal influence although slightly lessened in gory brutality at least to focus on the deranged and misanthropic face to black metal. Its sort of disappointing to me actually that there aren't many other black metal bands that take a thematic approach to serial killers as these are two topics I particularly enjoy, or perhaps I'm just not in the know. Closest thing I can think of at the top of my head is Krieg's single "Patrick Bateman", although that's just a title and fictional.

Great Video. About the name: I never gave it too much thought because it was pretty obvious to me. Depressed and misanthropic people do not like to go outside and be in the sun. There's always something dragging you out there, to the sun, to the world, to your job... You'd much rather stay home and close all the shades. The other thing is, that you're such a vampire who lives in darknes and obscurity that if they drag you out into sunlight you'll be destroyed. It's about the anguish of having to perform in the "real" world and It's a great name for a band. Keep up the great work!

the name "dragged into sunlight" immediately made me think of killing vampires when I read it.
They are one of my favorite live bands of all time. Nobody can follow them live. Remember they put Craft after them at MDF?
I mean, okay Craft werent very good live at that time but I still say NOBODY can follow DiS live.
I seem to remember them playing at least one song from the Gnaw record during the second MDF set. . . .

I saw these live once at Damnation Festival. For me they are one of those bands that are better sitting down alone in your house through your sound system. Like Khanate, saw them live also. It gets tiring, especially if you have had a couple of drinks and your attention span isn't what it normally is, you are standing, it wasn't fun. As for mysterious bands, Corrupted has to be at the top. No interviews, no photos and ultra rare live shows. That rare DIS album cover has Agoraphobic Nosebleed artwork on it?

    Death doom is the shit.
Amorphis/Asphyx are other bands that’s great at this stuff.
Also, “complaining that it has too much gore or is pitch black” is a great analogue.
Metal needs to shock people, I agree on that.
That’s what the genre set out to do in the first place.

i've never heard any other band absolutely *drip* with malice and misanthropy like Dragged Into Sunlight. Hatred For Mankind is so utterly disgusting it makes me feel like my soul needs a shower every time i listen to it (in the best way possible of course).

I'd agree with you about hatred for mankind being the best if, and only if, nathrakh didn't have the whole of the law. We have very similar taste but the whole of the law is way more savage than hatred for mankind.

The name could also be symbolic of the band dragging the hideousness of the dark subject matter of their music into sunlight, into the light of awareness, to be reveiled to us so we become cognisant of it.

I never saw the band’s album cover when I was initially told their name to look them up, I immediately thought their name was a discussion on being thrust into an uncaring world, so I don’t see your theory as being far-fetched, it makes a lot of sense.
