The 2009 Confederations cup was full of surprises. I was so happy when the US beat Spain and was so close to winning the final, but it wasn't to be. Congrats Brazil.

USA vs Brazil was the start of my journey into becoming a USMNT fan. First game I ever watched of them. Sad to see them lose, but still a fan to this day. I was 13 at the time.
Great final. Great tournament as well. Egypt beating Italy. Spain losing to USA. Actually the tournament was better than the world cup in 2010

USMNT's strongest result in international competition. No one expected them to make it to the final, let alone beat the eventual WC champions in the semi.

I think Spain losing to the USA learnt a lesson from that defeat. Because they went on to be world champions the following year

Man, this was such a great tournament. I remember watching every match. The USA finally caught their stride and found a winning group. If the Davies car accident hadn't happened, things could have been so different. That was really a pivotal moment for us going into the world cup. There were a lot of changes after that, and we haven't played as well ever since. We've had moments and our stars have shined, but the state of our team as a whole hasn't made that level since. I hope we will once again be competitive with the top teams

USA reached Round of 16 in 1994 world cup, USA was semifinalist in 1999 confedaration cup and USA was quarterfinalist in 2002 world cup.USA was pre-quaterfinalist( Round of 16) in 2010 and 2014 world cup, USA reached semi final in 2016 Copa America

The 2009 Confederations Cup, was the first and only time to see the US, at their best in football. They surprised the odds when they eliminated the European champions Spain, in the semi-finals, and in the finals they had a 2-0 lead against Brazil. When the US, was in a 2-0 lead, I virtually thought the game was theirs for the winning. Only for Brazil, to get back up in the second half to make it 3-2 retaining their title.
It’s a shame we no longer have this tournament.
That definitely has too be one of ohr finest soccer moments beating Spain who no one could beat then going head to head with Brazil thats just part of what's to come in US soccer

Why did FIFA remove the Confederations Cup? This is a cup won on pure merit. You first have to be champion of your continent to enter.

@@majestic6265 Surely Confederations Cup makes more money than Club World Cup. No matter how big Club World Cup gets, it's always been a sideshow. Confederations Cup was perfect because it was just the Champions of their continents. Every continent wants their continents to represent them, Clubs are too regional & small fan base even if they are continental champions. Nigeria has more fans than Manchester City surely. Brazil has more fans than any club in the world... Italy & Spain have more fans than Barcelona & AC Milan. Club tournaments have less people watching...

I was late to a game watching party. I get there and “what??? We’re down 0 - 2???” Such a joy to watch the come back but the US made us sweat our butts off to get that win.

I am a Brazilian that of course has a Brazilian mane, but when I lived in Japan they gave me another name, and now that I am living in Taiwan I have yet another name. So the most important is not the name , but who you are. In Brazil we call football ( futebol), in Japan soccer, and in Taiwan soccer or football. The name is different, but the game is the same, and so is out passion for it.

It's best if they don't go to the world cup in Russia lack of skills, teamwork suck and they keep sending young players who has no international experience. Also their coach sucks they had a good team during 2005 -2010 they were at their prime they were the strongest in North America now they are a joke.

This Brazilian team deserved more in the 2010 WC. Aside from Kaka, there were no major stars and they played really well together, even being far from the most talented players. Luis Fabiano was a beast in these 2 tournaments, Robinho was at his prime. Dunga could've called Neymar at the time, he would've been amazing in the bench for 2010.
