  • This vlog is about how to do wet plate process in the heat, at about 30C or 86F.
Collodion ferries have done it again and I couldn't provoke fogging with the heat. Nevertheless I hope this helps to some of you. If it does, perhaps you might decide to support the production of this kind of content by either buying a book of my art or by sending one time donation or by becoming my patreon.

Don't worry. Quality over quantity. I still enjoyed the vlog very much!

Thank you Borut. I have put my collodion and developer on ice between plates and I have had no issues shooting in weather over 100 degrees F. It is always a challenge in the heat for sure. Thanks for always doing what you do.

Worth every minute. I have my Grandfather's Kodak Brownie Model C which I hope to someday use for collodion. Topshit Photography gives me motivation that there is a person crazier than I am and that it will work. Really love this Borut. Thanks again🙏😀😀

Thanks for the very helpful vlog. Only question: at the end you write 50 ml of water every 100 ml of developer. Is it right?

    Great vlog!
What would you keep the silver bath’s SG at when lowering the pH?

I'm curious too. Not to give Borut any more crazy ideas but Christopher James mentions you can lower the silver bath percentage to as low as 7% for hot weather to make it less active. He doesn't mention pH though IIRC.

I don't lower it, but it makes sense to do so. I'm using 9% all the time.

Oh those evil fog pixies! - I had problems when starting out which were (of course) complicated by all my other errors: dirty silver, oysters from the poorly prepared plate holder etc.Diluted dev worked in the end.
I totally agree about methodical testing, though it's maddening when you can't produce the fault to order! :-) One question: when you say washing the dev off with tap water is more effective than distilled, but "it will look ugly" - what do you mean? Thanks for a great series and hello from the UK!

I mean distilled water will remain clear, while tap water will become muddy. The stopping of development is better with tap - muddy water.

@@BorutPeterlinPhotography Ah! - ugly water.- got it! :-). I notice Markus Hofstätter applies his stop water via a spray bottle. - Always something new to try...

Which recipe for collodion do you like the best?

Given the hot temperatures I face, I am more concerned about having my collodion boiling than causing fog. Has that happened to you?

  • @aloncohen87

The fog is created when the plate dries Before the exposure?

    • @BorutPeterlinPhotography
      @BorutPeterlinPhotography  Před 3 lety +1

Before the development. Yes, before dipping it into the silvernitrate. But the drying after the sensitising and before development looks (almost) the same.
