How much can Magnus Carlsen calculate in 60 seconds | Indjic vs Carlsen | Commentary by Sagar Shah

  • It's said that blitz chess is all about intuition and feel. After all how much can one calculate in just 3 minutes! The 2-second increment often helps you to stay afloat and not lose on time. But the World Champion is not like us, is he?
When Magnus Carlsen puts in 1/3 of his time during a blitz game, which is a solid 60 seconds, what is it that he has thought in that time? How many variations could he calculate? In round 3 of the World Blitz 2021, the World Champion took on the Serbian GM Alesandar Indjic. Carlsen had 1 minute 35 seconds on the clock and thought for a solid 1 minute to come down to 35 seconds only! In this video, you get to see a glimpse of the genius of Magnus. The commentary of IM Sagar Shah helps you to get some ideas about what Carlsen was thinking.

The commentary here is superbly done. It adds an element of suspense and anticipation to the viewers. I also like how it explains the variations right before a move has taken place to make the audience know about what the players are possibly thinking at the moment. I appreciate this game with all these awesome players on the planet.
Magnus is not just a world champion. He is world class.
Liked how Indjic so calm and composed right after the game as Magnus explains some variations. Humility and maturity at its finest display.

The position looked so dead for the duration of Magnus' think and literally out of nothing he created complications that were completely tactically sound despite looking horrific then totally bruteforced and dominated a Rook endgame. Our World Champion truly is on a different level. Every player loses games but when you see Magnus playing well it's just a foregone conclusion.
