  • This year's architecture biennale in Venice (Italy) focuses on the question of free space, the free space that is inspired by generosity. The exhibition at the Central Pavilion in the Biennale's Giardini presents projects by architects such as Alvaro Siza, Riccardo Blumer, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA, Mario Botta, Sauerbruch Hutton, Toyo Ito, among others.

The architectural aesthetic is much more refined than the art shown in the regular Biennale. A definite interest in optics and scale manipulations. An interesting side note to this is the more casual and "clean" appearance of the visitors here. The art crowds from the 2017 and 2019 Art Biennales are predictably more concerned with presenting an "artsy" appearance that will set them apart as someone special. If anyone saw the movie "Surviving Picasso" (w/ Anthony Hopkins) the art crowd surrounding Pablo was always depicted as hopelessly and vapidly pretentious figures in search of diversion from a famous artist's antics.
