  • A MTB bike sold at Walmart that comes with a 120mm thru axel suspension fork and a 1x10 MicroShift XLE drivetrain & Tektro Hydraulic Disc brakes. That's on top of the already great features seen in my reviews of the Kent Trouvaille and Giordano Valor - both share lineage with this mountain bike.

Interesting to see this brand name come back. Way back in the day there were high-end steel bikes with the Giordano name on them. Mountain bikes made by Tom Teesdale and road bikes make by Dario Pegoretti - these guys are legends.

I can say 100% that this is the bike you wouldn't NEED to upgrade. Not until you start doing bigger things like 6ft drops or extreme technical riding. Unlike the axum or ardor which still need at least a better wheelset or suspension, this thing will give you a great ride until you at least wear out the chain!

So I ordered this bike and it came in yesterday, I took it to my local bike shop this morning to have them look it over put it together ECT…. They had it on the floor next to a few Trek bikes and let me tell you, it fit right in. I could see other customers in the store eyeing my bike too, someone even made a comment on how nice it was. The guy who put it together for me was very impressed for this level of bike. He was impressed with the tires, and he said it shifted really well He was very surprised. Rides amazing, I'm a happy customer. It's a great looking bike in person very respectable specs in my opinion for the price. If you were thinking about buying this bike. Get it, you won't be disappointed. It's most certainly entry level bike shop quality for sure.

Clutch derailleur, dropper support, 142mm rear spacing with a thru axle, and an external bearing bottom bracket are the only upgrades I can think of that would make a bike like this compete with bikes that cost thousands. Incredible

The majority of riders won't even really notice a difference between rear qr and rear thru axle. In order to really notice a difference in the stiffness, you'd have to be riding some black or double black diamond trails pretty hard. Not just that, but boost rear thru axle wheels cost a bit more if and when you need one compared to qr. Clutched derailleur would be nice but not necessary as well, although internal dropper post support is definitely needed. I mean let's face it, this bike looks to be an xc bike, maybe a trail spec bike. Its not an AM, enduro, or dh bike.

Kev I've been watching these budged videos for a while, been inching into Mountain Biking from my easy flat trail rides or road biking. I went from a 20 year old Giant Boulder ridged bike on red trails one time, to realizing I need suspension at 38 years old lol BRUTAL. Picked up a used Motobecane Fantom Trail D/S on Marketplace, but I literally despise that bike. The local bike shop can't figure out anything wrong with it, but it's a total chore to ride even on flat terrain. My training bike a Mongoose Vincent fat tire is easier to get up to speed, and keep at speeds on road/gravel/dirt riding.
For an entry level mountain biker who loves my 3 by drive-trains, I'm inching into trying these 1 by monsters. I was looking at the Giant Talon as I love my Giant Bikes, but they are perpetually out of stock and out of my comfort zone to purchase the Talon 1. Do you think this baby will hold up to abuse like a Giant or Trek would? Because I know I'll be crashing and falling on it as I start experimenting on the technical stuff ;-) Never was ready to buy a 'New' big branded bike, but after spending way to much on that Motobecane trying to get it dialed in where I like it, I'm ready to get something new.

You have to start somewhere these big box bikes are becoming better and better. The bikes that are coming out are user friendly for beginners who want to try to get in. That’s great till they ride higher end bikes then they want all that fun stuff like dropper post air forks better 1x and hydro brakes. How I started riding was on my brothers giant anthem full suspension with 1x drop whole 9 yards in Arizona. I live in Wisconsin way different riding here. Here In Wisconsin is a lot of up hill very little down hill. I bought a 2018 giant fathom. It is a perfect bike for what I wanted from what I ride here in Wisconsin. With the big box bikes and what you do to them to make them trail rideable is awesome gives people great options to try it out upgrade when ready. Keep up the good work!

    - like Shimano (Sunrace and others perhaps?) So the choice of XLE was deliberate, by turning a budget builder’s need, into an attribute., budget builders who create Frankenstein bikes by throwing different aftermarket parts together, get a derailleur, shifter and cassette, that gets along with similar components that’s not a part of the family tree - Did someone say, rainbow colored cassette?? If its compatible with say, Shimano, then it will work with the XLE microShift series..

I’m a little shorter than you at about 5’8.5”, so I would probably be as comfortable on the Trouvaille or Valor as you are on this Intrepid. I’m still incredibly interested in these bikes…especially the Trouvaille and Valor. I’m going to reserve judgment until I can get to a local store that has the Trouvaille in stock and go from there. I had a Polygon Premier 5 in my shopping cart at bikes online (it’s a 2x drivetrain) but I think these bikes have changed my mind.

Very, very impressive! I thought this was a carbon frame when I was looking at the top tube smoothed welds. By the way, many big box bikes with smoothed welds don't have those around the BB or rear stays. Also, I noticed a pretty nice looking machined seat stay yoke...very cool!
Two things that are a draw back in my view:
-No sized frames. Looks like the Trouvaille will eventually have S, M, and L sizes. Maybe the Giordano bikes will follow suit. Perhaps a big miss if they don't.
-No professional assembly. You either DIY it, take it to your LBS and pay them, or risk having some brut with a hammer, adjustable wrench, and a lot of apathy slapping it together at the store. I'd be leary of buying an assembled at the store bike.

3:56 who cares about this pidly seat stay bridge?
Machined chainstays are what's needed for chainring & tyre clearance, while being way stiffer.
Smoothed welds equal fatigue cracking someday. It's not done to look good, its to erase poor quality welds

    • @aaronbehindbars
      @aaronbehindbars Před rokem +2

@@janeblogs324 I called out the seatstay bridge as it is a nice cosmetic touch not seen on this level of bike. Necessary? No, but I thought it was worth a mention.
Smooth welds aren't an issue. There is a ton of welded joint with how the seat tube is gussetted to the top tube and the top tube and down tube join together intobthe head tube. Many bike comapnies smooth their welds amd you don't hear about major failures on modern bikes. This ain't your old 80's Crack-n-fail Cannondale. No need to be so negative about things!

It really does look like carbon fiber. It's interesting to see the consistent progression from big box bikes. When will we see a proper air fork? I see the value in the Kent Trouvaille at it's low price but I bought my wife a Rocky Mountain Fusion for not much more than the Intrepid. It came with a Shimano Altus 1x and Shimano MT-201s, and an SR Air Fork, not to mention LBS support. Though I admit the Intrepid looks nicer and has better Geo. It really is becoming more compelling for a bike snob like me to consider big box bikes, if not for myself I'd certainly recommend them to folks starting out and asking my opinion.

This is nuts And honestly its got better specs than LBS bikes in the same price range, the only downside being weight( I could only find info on Trek's weight). I believe the weight is likely due to the wheels and maybe the cockpit. I couldn't find any LBS bikes with smoothed welds like this anywhere near this price. If we could get tear downs to know how much these giordano(and the Trouvaille please) frames weigh. I am very torn between getting a Trouvaille or getting a Valor both would make me a great begginer trail bike. If by some miracle I see a valor in store so I can see the finish in person it might be enough to swing my vote.
