    3-way hybrid. pleather on the inside, velour on top, and leather outside

  • @abc456f

    Just ordered these for my Sennheiser hd 280 pros. The ear pads they come with are pleather and within five minutes of wear, my ears are hot and sweating. They sound great so I'm hoping these Brainwavz hybrid will be better. Wasn't sure whether to get these or the full velour model, but I saw these have perforations for breathability. I need closed back phones for home studio recording but it's been near impossible to keep the original ear pads on my ears for a long session. I'll use them just for recording vocals and switch to my HD-414's for everything else, even though I lose a good bit of bass response with the 414's open construction.

    I bought the brainwavz that are slanted, in other words the pads are thicker at the back (towards the back of your head) and gradually get thinner towards the front (towards the front of your head). These are contoured to fit the shape of your head and are absolutely fantastic. I got the regular pleather and memory foam style. They also come in lambskin. This is what I'm getting for my next headphones.
    Also, I have the ATH-WS1100iS. I strongly recommend the slanted model I just described. I have a large round Charlie Brown head. The default ear pads were uncomfortable for me.

    what would be the difference between the Brainwavz HM5 angled and not angled for my Audio Technica M40X? and would Memory foam or plain leather be better and whats the difference between the two? thanks in advance

    • @ivan0kurnia
      @ivan0kurnia Před 5 lety +4

      I was lucky they mistook my order to be angled. I really like it on my M40x because the drivers are now perpendicular to my ears. I have a weird-shaped small head so wearing flat normal-pads would angle them. Now I hear better with this. Also, bigger sound-stage which I like.

  • @Siberius-
    @Siberius- Před 5 lety +1

    That was a pain in the ass getting those on.
    I found that if you keep a finger in there and work your finger around the cup, that works good.
    People say they sound like HELL, but I'm really struggling to hear the difference...
    There's less bass, but easily enough for me... it's still there. And less bass-feel.. like feeling the sub bass.. because the stock pads are not only closer, but harder. Which transfers better. Is my thinking.
    Once these squish over time, and get closer to the drivers, they should get better in ways. Although they seem fine for me, and when I squish them closer to my ears, I don't pick up on any difference.
    As far as sibilance... I don't think I notice a whole lot of difference... might be my hearing. There will be a bit more though. The foam over the driver is way thinner. You can purchase the foam material and insert it yourself though.
    The comfort is obviously way better.
    So far they seem perfectly fine for me.... I'm no audiophile though. So don't trust me lol.

    • @Siberius-
      @Siberius- Před 5 lety

      @@wompdaddy4891- Ideally I'd like to be able to switch back and forth to test for the difference (with my hearing).
      But fuck that... I already put the ear pads on once. That's enough times.
      Good enough!
      Just odd how so many people are outraged by the sound difference...
      I suppose they are more experienced in picking up subtleties, and it's a big difference for them. But then they were also saying the sibilance is ear piercingly horrible.. (way more so than stock).
      And ZERO bass....
      I dunno.

    I ordered this set after watching your video. They are super comfortable but the sound isolation is terrible. My wife can hear everything when I’m using the headsets. I placed headsets on my knee area and cranked volume that I use while gaming and she was right . Had to put the factory pads back on my Audio Technica back on. I’m thinking maybe the leather Brainwav pads will isolate better .

      @Siberius- Před 5 lety

      Yea you need the pleather for sound isolation. Also keeps the bass in.
      They're big pads so the bass and quality will suffer, but over time they should squish down and become better, as they get closer to the ear, whilst retaining the comfort.

    tbh after using these if it's the clamping force or the fact that im not using my Razer Kraken's with Cooling Gel the foam feels a bit lower quality. Not the softest and feels like a hybrid beetween it and styrofoam. But there nice man. Way better than the stock but i lost ALL bass with my M40x's hopefully the M50x's will be better! • @mangaas
    @mangaas Před 4 lety +3

    I got the hybrid Brainwavz, (perforated on the inside) and compared to the all-leather ones I had previously, you lose some of the bass response (which might be good if you think the M50's are to bass heavy) but the real downside is, certain tracks sound too sibilant / tinny. (every review I watched on CZcams tells me the opposite, which is weird) Although this is compared to the thicker after-market pads that I have replaced teh stock ones with long ago. I honestly don't remember how the stock pads sound.
    Hybrids are overall more comfortable, but the change in sound - sibilance and loss of bass made me switch back. My m50's are my "bass heavy" headphones, so if I lose that, the headset is kinda useless next to my Sennheizers and Hifiman's.

      Sorry for thr necro-post but yes, these will fit perfectly. I would suggest the sheep skin oPH leather for the Pro X. But personally I would 100% go with velour or hybrid because the Pro Xs are very bass heavy and with my experience velour has done me wonders with balancing everything out. The tings and all that get much clearer too.

    • @rich1051414
      @rich1051414 Před 6 lety

      The original pads were protein leather, and it does effect sound signature, but due to their anemic size, they never sealed. This means full sized pleather or leather pads fuck with the sound a LOT. Velour sounds the best when full sized.
      If comfort is more important though, protein leather or leather might be better, but if you have sweaty ears, you might like velour more.
      The hybrid pads attempt to 'min max' the positives and negatives of leather/pleather/vented/velour.
      Hope that helps.

      @@rich1051414 what do u mean velour sounds best when full sized? What means best for you neutral? Hyped sound lile alot of bass and treble? I got big memory foam velour pads for my ATH 50x. Its difficult for me the see alot of difference in sound signiture accept it seems a bit more eary.. room to breath for my ears.. for sound and physical temperature. That I like. But it almost seems like the bass is heavier (-) and punchier (+). The highs around 10khz are very sharp.. but I think thats not something new to 50x which are not really neutral. Im still trying to figure out if I like the sound of the new ear oads or not.

      I just returned the TH-02 for the M40x pair. The Tascam is crap compared to Audio Technica, plus the TH-02 was too large and kept sliding down. Pay the extra money and get Audio Technica. I ordered the hybrid earpads for them. I only used the head set for 90 minutes with the stock earpads. Not only were they a bit uncomfortable, but they made my ears hot. I can't tell you how much I hate pleather earpads. I specifically chose the velour hybrid to not sweat and have pieces of degraded pleather sticking to my skin.
