    It is a powerful effect, that Eric doesn't speak during T-Bird's death scene, but the reasons behind it were practical. Brandon Lee had already died when they shot it. In the scripted scene, he had dialogue, but they reworked it so they could shoot it with a silent stand-in.

    • @Teddyngham
      @Teddyngham Před rokem +24

      And Brandon Lee's stand-in (Chad Stahelski) later became the director of John Wick, and he liked T-Bird's actor (David Patrick Kelly) so much as an actor, that he refused to let him audition for a role in John Wick, and just gave him the role.

    The movie is set in Detroit which in reality did have Devils Night that was a night of arson the night before Halloween. The reason Eric can't be friends with Sara anymore was to be explained in a deleted plot line of The Skull Cowboy. The Skull Cowboy was supposed to have been brought back by the crow too but he was still too attached to the living and thus couldn't cross back over once his business was finished so he is left a decaying being stuck in between life and death . He warns Eric to not continue to be too closely attached to those ( like Sara ) of his past. Eric must be focused on his mission that he was brought back for and then be ready to return back to the afterlife. He is also thinking of Sara too as knowing that he can't stay he must keep her at a distance so she also doesn't become too attached to him again thus be even more hurt by losing him yet again. He had to let Sara know that he couldn't be as close to her as before for both of their sakes.

  • @davidanderson1639
    @davidanderson1639 Před rokem +7

    Ever since I saw The Crow upon its release, it’s been one of my all time favourites films; not just because I was a fan of the comic. But because of the performances from the cast, the amazing soundtrack & what was achieved by Alex Proyas.
    The Crow was filmed somewhat back to front; with Brandon Lee filming all the scenes of him in make up first. This meant that the scenes of him without the now iconic make up would be some of the last filmed on the production; & sadly the last Lee would’ve ever film.
    On March 31, 1993, Lee was filming a scene where his character, Eric, is shot after witnessing the beating and rape of his fiancée. Actor Michael Massee's character Funboy fires a .44 Smith & Wesson Model 639 revolver at Lee as he walks into the room. A previous scene using the same gun had called for inert dummy cartridges fitted with bullets, but no powder or primer, to be loaded in the revolver. For close-up scenes that use a revolver, where the bullets are clearly visible from the front, and do not require the gun to actually be fired, dummy cartridges provide a more realistic appearance than blank rounds, which have no bullet. Instead of purchasing commercial dummy cartridges, the film's prop crew, hampered by time constraints, created their own by pulling the bullets from live rounds, dumping the powder charge, then reinserting the bullets.
    In the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be actually fired at Lee from a distance of 12-15 feet, the dummy cartridges were exchanged for blank rounds, which feature a live powder charge and primer, but no bullet, thus allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. As the production company had sent the firearms specialist home early, responsibility for the guns was given to a prop assistant who was unaware of the rule for inspecting all firearms before and after any handling. Therefore, the barrel was not checked for obstructions when the time came to load it with the blank rounds. Since the bullet from the dummy round was already trapped in the barrel, this caused the .44 Magnum bullet to be fired out of the barrel with virtually the same force as if the gun had been loaded with a live round, and it struck Lee in the abdomen, mortally wounding him.
    O'Barr later remarked that losing Lee was like losing his fiancée all over again, and he regretted ever writing the comic in the first place.
    In an interview in 2005, 12 years after the incident, Massee revealed that he still had nightmares about it, stating, "I don't think you ever get over something like that."
    After a great deal of soul-searching, Proyas and the rest of The Crow's cast and crew arrived at the conclusion that Lee would have insisted that they finish the film. With most of the actor's scenes completed, it was up to special effects house Dream Quest to fill in the blanks, which they accomplished in a number of ways. For the scene in which a newly-returned-from-the-grave Eric returns to his old apartment, for example, unused footage of Lee was used, with the actor's image digitally composited into a shot of the apartment set. For a few other key images, however, the effects technicians turned to techniques that were, in 1993, ridiculously cutting edge.
    Proyas brought in a relatively green stunt performer by the name of Chad Stahelski, who had been good friends with Lee and had a similar build. For a handful of scenes, including the one in which Eric sports his eerie makeup for the first time, approaching his window as lightning briefly illuminates the room, Stahleski stood in for Lee during shooting. Then, Dream Quest used previously captured footage of Lee to digitally graft the actor's face on Stahleski's body. The resulting shots certainly benefit from their brevity and from the darkness in which they were shot, but even today, the effect holds up remarkably well.

    Brandon was such an underrated talent, and such a massive loss. You can tell the moments in this where his talent really shined, especially when he was acting opposite another good talent. You can really tell when he wasn't acting opposite someone and just reading lines for a solo shot. The scene where he encountered the first guy, Tin Tin, is one of the most raw and natural scenes and really shows how good he was.

    I've said this before on other people's videos. When T-bird is being strapped into the car, he recalls Eric's poetry word for word. HE KNOWS, HE DESERVES THIS. He's known for a year now. Yet he keeps trying to bargain until he realizes he can't. He repeats the poetry word for word. He only read it one time, over a year ago. It makes me wonder how many times he's been secretly repeating it to himself, in order for him to remember it so fully. That look in his eyes as he repeats it. He gets it. How awful goodness is. How awful Justice is.

    The scene where Brandon Lee is shot (the last real scene before his character died) is the actual take it happened. The actor whose character shoots the protagonist nearly walked away from the industry forever. It took him decades of therapy due to how bad his PTSD from it was. He's finally back to acting again.

    I still listen to the crow soundtrack from time to time, as it is great. I've always been into comics since I was a kid and I read the graphic novel by J. O'Barr before I saw the movie and the story is great. Works as a tragic romance that's well-done while managing to mix in some hardcore violence. I call him more of an anti-hero than a hero, much like the Punisher is. Totally great movie even if it was kind of a B movie that got a big cult following. Not many if any films had Parkour in them either I don't think at this point.

    It is a great movie but i wish they told the whole story, originally in the story and scrip there was supposed to be a supernatural being that greeted him when he resurrected, and this being would explain the rules to him and to us as the viewers and scenes where actually filmed but cut, basically it was that he would be indestructible so long as he was carrying out the singular mission of revenge against the people that killed him and his girlfriend but if he deviated he would not be protected and would be as mortal as any other, part of this is still in the film when he saves the girls mother the mother stabs him out of fear but the wound never healed as saving the mom was not part of why he came back and later we see he has duck tape over the wound.
    Sadly in the end they went with the idea that the crow was the source of the power and never used the rest.

    The Crow was a comic book written by an Ex Marine iirc.
    Who lost his Girldfriend/wife in a car accident.
    And after having a hard time coping and grieving and having his mind going dark places, he simply started writting and drawing.
    And thats how he created the Crow, wich was very influential back then in the underground/alternative Pop Culture.

    Hi there! Welcome to my favorite movie of ALL TIME, for almost 30 years! No other movie has come within a mile of it, to me. You know what is especially heartbreaking, is Brandon Lee was about a month away from his own wedding to Eliza, his fiancée. They were planning on flying to Mexico to get married as soon as The Crow wrapped up filming. Also, an interesting note: a lot of the scene in Albrecht's apartment was improvised, which just goes to show how much talent Brandon had, and Ernie has, and how the chemistry between them was so perfect. Also, you should check out the graphic novel, written by James O'Barr (he has a cameo in the movie, he was the looter with the long blond hair). He worked on the movie too, and really kept a lot of parts and lines from the graphic novel in the movie. It amazed me, because I'd gone to a friend's house to skim the graphic novel before I saw the movie that night, and there were so many bits I remembered watching the movie, just from skimming the graphic novel! And I only saw up to the scene where Albrecht is talking to the lady cop, because a friend I was with had a pancreatitis attack and we had to take her to the ER! But it made such an impression on me, I called my boyfriend while I was waiting in the ER, and said "WE ARE GOING TO SEE THAT MOVIE TOMORROW NIGHT!" I only got to see it seven times in the theater before they stopped showing it, but it just changed my life.
    There has been talk of a reboot, which I am TOTALLY against. It's like kicking sand in Brandon Lee's face and downplaying the movie that is his legacy. Supposedly, they want it to be more like the graphic novel. Well, I say if they want to make it more like the "comic book," then make it animated, like the video for "Take On Me" by A-ha, or the bootleg movie of my generation "Heavy Metal," that you could pretty much only watch if you found a copy, as it wasn't released for purchase in the US. Anyway, I think the fact that they've had about four actors, including Jason Momoa, sign on and then quit the reboot should be a sign that it's NOT MEANT TO BE! Sorry for the long post, but look at my name! LOL! No one should be surprised I have a lot to say about this movie! And I left A LOT out.

    The Crow is always gonna be my #1 favorite movie. The quotes from Edgar Allen Poe, Brandon Lee in his best ever role. The man that fired the gun that killed Brandon, quit acting that day and the girl who played Shelly quit also. In case no one explained it... October 31st is known as Devil's Night in Detroit back in the day. On that night "thugs" would destroy businesses and set fires to buildings. The Crow is a DC comic written by James O'barr. The book is more dark than the movie but I still recommend reading it. 10 out of 10 movie & soundtrack. Rip Brandon
