I replaced the hood liner on my car too. The large round clips to hold it in place, I got the universal Hood pad off of eBay, trimmed it to fit it was easy.

That’s a nice 74 LTD. You are right about gravel roads, dust and squeaks! But the cars is a nice piece and will just take some effort to bring it back to pristine. And yes those cars just scream white walls. Thanks for the video!

I imagine the original owner (who has been gone for 20 years) would probably be glad to know that you ended up with that car, because it’s in good hands, and being well cared for, and respected/appreciated, he purchased the car new and kept the rest of his life, so it must’ve meant something to him or he probably would’ve sold it at some point

I have a 76 ltd, bought it on a whim because of a low price and no rust. I did some custom work with my car, the LED tail light panel on the trunk lid. I qualified as a hood ornament dealer if there's one you ever need I have all of them many extras. That vinyl top needs to be peeled off wire brushed and put bed liner. You can get bedliner in different colors. Black is the lowest cost and easy to touch up down the road if you need to put a new coat on it. It looks great feels great. A set of sensor Matic shocks would be a good thing for that car. I like to put mirror window tint on these old cars with the chrome trim they have on them blocks out the heat nicely and it's easy to see through. Even 5% mirror that's what I put on my 4 LTD. I even did a bumper tuck on my car that really improves the looks. On that car you could tuck the front bumper.

Looks beautiful. Shined up beautiful. I have an all original ‘74 F350, Super Camper Special Ranger XLT w/44K original miles and the big 460. Has the factory two tone with metallic brown paint and Wimbledon white. People always asks me when it was repainted…I tell them it’s original and they can’t believe it. I’ve sound proofed it, bushings, new steering box, and it steers, rides, drives like a Marquis and quiet. It’s a bummer when you find out that there was some paint work when you didn’t expect that but they did a great job. It sounds awesome. Here’s my 2 cents, put the appropriate white walls on it along with factory rims….ok, you’re probably, not going to like, this but…..take the deluxe wheel covers off the wagon, since you don’t like them and put them on the LTD…..it’ll look factory correct and amazing, just like the brochures. That's a beautiful car indeed. Don't worry about the rear quarter imperfections, no one will notice. The important thing is that the repairs have not created any rust issues. I HATE exhaust clunking/noises/leaks as well. You just gotta chuckle that the shop would let the job go out with the tailpipe rubbing on the gas tank! The 400 isn't gonna win any races, nor would we expect it to. The important thing is that it provides plenty of torque at higher RPMs, which it sure seems to. I remember my 73 Caprice 400 2bbl, she kinda ran out of steam at any RPM above 3500.

400 is perfectly adequate in one of these.
I had a '79 Mark V Cartier with the 400, and it had more than enough snort to move the car along at a respectable pace. You're not drag-racing anybody in one of these.
Not saying the 460 isn't a great motor, and it's certainly more desirable (generally at least), but the 400 is excellent in one of these. It's torquey, smooth, and reliable mechanically. Only real problem area is the nylon-covered timing gear.
I've seen Ford trucks with the 400 that got 200k miles.

The 1974 LTD model year is probably the most unique as far as one model year only items. It's even more rare to see it in 2 door form. Looks amazing. But i do have 2 questions if i may?
What did the glamour paint option give you that the other metallic paints didn't? I mean there were standard metallic color paints so when you opted for the extra cost "Glamour Paint" what made it so special?
And second, on the 2 door model, was that spiral metal ornament on the quarter panels standard or was that an option?? Not sure what it's called. Maybe a Landau metal trim piece??? I've only seen them on some 1973 and 1974 LTD coupes. Any information on that would be greatly appreciated.

The Cragars remind me of a guy wearing combat boots with a suit. Dealer brochures from that year would show white walls and appropriate wheel covers, so you wouldn't have to guess about your final look. To me, raised white letters belong on a sports model, like a Mustang. I had a 73 Mach 1 with slotted mags and raised letter Goodyears, but I'm biased. Still, no one ever said mags and white walls looked good together. What are your intentions? Flip it, keep it or show it?

I'll be keeping the car. I do not like any of the original 74 wheel covers. I prefer a wire wheel with whitet walls because I had one in the 80s, and I wish I'd never gotten rid of it. I've decided that I can only do what I want and not worry about what anyone else thinks. However, if I'd seen one of these in the 80s with Cragars when I was in my teens, I'm sure I would have thought it was the coolest thing ever! Way more people say they like the Cragars than ones who say they don't. And I would like the white walls with the Cragars much better than any black wall.
