It was SUCH a Millennial take that they immediately went to texting when she LITERALLY spoke it. They had voice inflection and body language to work with but no, let's imagine she texted it instead.

Watching four adults interpret someone saying “hey” to them in a neutral tone as weird/very weird/THREATENING/not a greeting at all, made me feel much better about my own social anxiety.
nasecoo you forgot 8:24 "/pre-sext", which honestly, as someone who texts Hey when I start a conversation with someone gives me more anxiety than the difference between talking to someone and talking to someone.
Bear in mind there is purposefully no emphasis on any word in that last statement.
"hey" just sounds ominous to me, to my ears almost any other greeting sounds more auspicious

@Ties de Jong hey opens up to many ways a conversation could steer to, the context is very important and the worry comes from that lack of context.
@Ties de Jong The thing is there's a big difference between a text that says "hey." and a text that says "hey, what's up?" or "Hey, how's it going?"
It's also different between text and speech because if someone just says a short "hey" in a more tired tone of voice, I can easily tell it's an acknowledgement of my presence, not an invitation for conversation. But if I wanted to do something similar over text or like messenger, I'd say something like "boop" or even just "*"

When I use “hey” to address someone I usually say “hey, man”. Just “hey” is a little weird.

W has an amazing history, that’s related (obviously) to U and V, but also F and H.
The Greeks used to have digamma, that looks like for /w/, but then the sound disappeared, and they stopped using it. The Etruscans copied the Greeks, but they used it for /v/, and used a digraph with digamma an h-like consonant to make /f/, since the Greeks didn’t have a letter for /f/. Then the Romans copied the Etruscans and, since they didn’t have /v/, /w/ and /u/ as separate phonemes, they used for both, and for /f/ since they already had a letter for /v/. This puts W with J, Q and X in the weird letter category, but since Q really has no reason to exist, X is far too unpredictable, and J’s story is basically W’s but worse, W is obviously the best one.
