It's implied that fusion reactions have been prevented as a safety measure to stop any other explosions. Basically an emergency switch.
At this point In the books it's explained that illus was seemingly designed around power generation (crazy amounts of lithium etc), and that the explosion was likely a very large fusion reactor going critical. And as we see in the show the planet then turns off all fusion to try and stop it.
"reactor going critical" A reactor going critical is a good thing. That phrase is literally used for when a reactor is stable and generating power. Even super criticality is not necessarily a bad thing as it just means power generation and reactivity is increasing. Prompt criticality it where things get scary and is what caused the Chornobyl disaster.
Imagine having to daal with metal bug things that can rip u to shreds, green eye goop infections, random global wide earthquakes, melting moons and things they haven’t even got to yet and think it’s a good thing to stay on this planet. SMDH. There’s hundreds more planets to discover! Cross this one off the list.
Pretty sure they said the makeup of the explosion was consistent with a fusion reactor failure

It's interesting how different the show handles sharing information regarding what's happening - in the books, it's much much clearer why and what's happening. Also with the help of one helpful Miller - as long as he gets help back. ;)
This season is my least favorite of the 5 (and it's still a good damn season because this show is fire) can't wait for next season
Right! I really liked it, and it seems I like it more than others and I'm trying to work out why! I *think* for me as a Trek fan it basically is a really good season of what Trek could be. Basically S4 so far (no spoilers) is a Space western with, exploration, alien mystery, conflict, politics, and when confronted with problems attempting to solve problems with science. Granted without utopian ideals etc etc. And I haven't got that from Discovery or Picard. I did get it from Lost in Space too, although it overall was less fun than The Expanse.
Yeah, Season 4 is perfectly good television, it's just pretty different from the other seasons, so it's not for everyone who liked the previous seasons.
I really didn’t like this season. It’s not just the setting, the characters and story progression are super cartoonish. It made the season seem extremely unrealistic. The belter leader literally tried to take themselves hostage: “we won’t move until you get Avascerala to recognize us officially!” The season also constantly kept trying to make the stern guy seem like the bad guy despite him being the most righteous of the bunch. I really don’t understand his spite against Holden and the crew-seems really fabricated.
I personally think it's around equal to S2 and behind S3 and S5, but it's far better than even most top-end television.
And then you get to next season, which is insane...

What is "melting the moon" is the protomolecule dissipating waste heat from all of the fusion reactions being prevented.
My understanding is that the moon melting is because the weapon system the disintegrated the shuttle malfunctioned.
@@Reedstilt I figured it was just that the weapon system was underneath the surface of the moon so the surface above the weapon melted when it fired
This episode is, as I see it, that Holden attacked the proto-molecule with a torpedo so. It decided to turn on all it's systems. At which point one of the power generators malfunctioned and exploded. So, the system shut down all fusion. So, the ships in orbit are buggered. So, the people on the ground are infected and going to be stuck for a while. So, what other problems are going to be thrown at everyone to raise the stakes! Ha ha ha ha ha! You all have no idea, except of course for those of you who have already watched the whole series, you know exactly what is going to happen, oh well...

So the Illus/New Terra situation is an earthquake, followed by a hurricane, and then a tidal wave.
Do these expanse vids keep getting shorter?
Yeah they do. I have found the discussions for The Expanse slightly disappointing. In general, I feel like the discussion after the reaction on Blind Wave videos used to be a lot better and longer. Maybe its a CZcams algorithm thing.
@@timforbes1151 I feel like it's more of a scheduling thing. To me it still seems like they discuss whatever they can and shorter isn't necessarily worse.

I’ll set your expectations: no one knows why, some transgression that wasn’t forgivable. He has another channel. It is not, in my opinion, very good as of yet.
