  • Hi guys in this video I'm repainting the Avea Trotter freaky fusion monster High doll. I change her into a unicorn but I didn't want to make just another white, pretty, glittery unicorn so I decided to go a little darker with her. The transition from horse to doll body was really sharp so I softened it by bringing her skin into the horses body a little more. I took off her wings that she came with and opted to just fill that area with air dry clay. Wings would've have been cool to make but that seemed more like a Pegasus not a unicorn. I kept her repaint very basic and easy. Less is more sometimes. I changed out her hands since hers were gloved and I was going for a wild natural look. This is also why I chose to keep her hair very free flowing not styled. See you next time.

Another inquiry - where do you recommend getting wigs? You’ve inspired me to try my hand at something like this, although I know it won’t look anywhere as amazing as yours.

Or rather/in addition, where did you procure the hair that you are using in this tutorial?

I don’t know why but this comment was held for review so I didn’t even see it till now otherwise I would’ve responded sooner. I really appreciate the credit you’re giving me but I still screw up sometimes and have to start from scratch. So don’t judge your first few attempts too harshly. I don’t buy wigs but they do sell them on etsy. I usually buy clip in hair extensions from different sources and just cut and glue on the doll. The easiest most forgiving hair when you apply is Tibetan lambs wool, I get that from Moorezmore, he sells on Etsy and Ebay. If you attempt to apply use a low heat mini heatgun. There are so many ways to apply hair and my way might not be the best so deffinitely check out enough videos on it. Hope this helps

I’m assuming you used acrylic paint? Or something else?

I did, sorry must’ve forgotten to mention that.

@@awaitesart So then, it is? Or…?
I’m sorry to bombard you with questions; I’m just trying to learn and have little idea where to start. I don’t know where to buy the hair supplies etc or what exactly you’re using. Will you do a tutorial on how to make wigs, like the one you made here?

Np, I used acrylics ( no special brand) for the body (black and flesh tone) I use Faber Castell pastel chalks to blush her and I prefer Derwent water color pencils but Faber Castell are also good for the details. I buy all of my products online. I get my doll supplies from Moreezmore. Art supplies I usually get from Blick art or Jerrys artarama or my local craft store. I’m in the process of making a doll right now and I’ll show better detail of placing the hair and explaining what I’m using. Hope this helps
