Taylor Swift - Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince Vocal Cover (4th of July Version)

Back when I learned about the American Revolution in elementary school and relieving it when I wrote an essay on George Washington in community college, I developed my own definition of what it means to be a patriot. To me, a patriot is not unconditionally loyal to my country's government. A patriot cares enough about my country to fight to overthrow a government if it succumbs to the tyranny it resisted at the time the Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence. Right-wing influenced nationalism has made it easy for even an RA I cut off ties with to confuse the two, but that sour exchange on Facebook has gotten me to realize how grateful I should be to live in a small community that condemns the dismantlement of human rights and the figurative burning of books.
Taylor Swift made me feel safe to stand by my definition of a patriot. It's thanks to her more young people have registered to vote and do what they truly think is right. Her impact was so powerful that the right resorted to a ridiculous conspiracy involving her to undermine her credibility and objectify her like they've done to other powerful women that dared to speak up against them. The Pentagon debunked it in a statement that contained a slew of puns inspired by the lyrics in her songs.
Yesterday as of a half hour ago, I celebrated 4th of July in my own way. I donned some cheap holiday swag to go with my Lover T-Shirt, went into the woods, and sang the opening number at the Eras Tour to express my lament that the presidential debate was a disaster while simultaneously embracing my outspoken approach to topics I covered on my channel. I hope someday as Election Day gets closer, Taylor performs the song live in its entirety at a future concert. It would allow its political interpretation to hit heavier. The shortened version we currently watch hasn't done that as much, but it is Taylor's way of letting the world know she's in her element and she's not backing down no matter how difficult her obstacles are to overcome. Hearing her sing "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince" live has felt like she inspires her fans that embarked on their expeditions to make it to each concert to do the same for themselves. :)
