  • please note that i'm not a vocaloid developer so i don't actually know the truth behind what's going on here, this is just my observations from messing with it. i may be entirely wrong about this.

    Edit from the future (3/1/24):
    After I learned more about Hio’s behavior, I discovered that [@ l] actually doesn’t work either, he just says [@] very quickly and then continues the rest of the note with [l] 😭 …oh, Hio…

    Hio reading these is so funny because it's like he's freaking out about his own [@] phoneme and like, talking in third person or pretending he's someone else for social media.
    Also hearing a Vocaloid read a keysmash was glorious and hilarious

    also his [@] phoneme reacts to the Velocity parameter (though only slightly), and the purpose of the Velocity parameter is to change the length of consonants at the start of a note 😭😭

    I'm gonna use "OOOAAA" as a consonant now

      if you ever get the chance, you should try it 😭 he’s really fun and if you like weird but easy-to-work-around bugs in your synths, his English voicebank is perfect for that

    This is the 3rd Vocaloid that has issue with the @ phoneme. I have Tonio, and if you use @ by itself he crashes the editor. So Hio having @ problems isn't surprising to me. Edit: Sonika also has glitchy @ phoneme too, but she sounds like she drowning.

    It's kinda like VCV Utaus when they're not otoed correctly. Sometimes the aliese is incorrect and the program can't properly read it

    i love how you made the " :( " into a sad "hmm" noise. 10/10 that is exactly how " :( " should sound

    i haven't messed with Vocaloid editor much because i haven't have time to learn music theory (and my computer is weak) but like i can feel those dreadful scream through caps lock (if that even makes any sense) 💀

    Is it possible that his [@] is supposed to be like, an alternate "r"?
    Like, y'know how R-Colored vowels are marked like [Q@], [e@], [I@], etc.
    What if it's meant to be like the [@] in those, but like separated?
    Like, what happens if you put it in a combination like [kh Q @] or [h i: @]?

    • @LNsynth
      @LNsynth  Před rokem +4

      I think that could work for some Vocaloids, but not in Hio’s case. I can’t check atm but iirc I think when it’s a vowel + [@], Hio usually just says the vowel and then a quick “uwa” at the end.
      my personal theory is that his [@] sound is a mislabeled sample and it’s actually supposed to be a transition sound between two vowels. it sort of makes sense why he would treat it like a consonant then, but I really don’t know if that’s true

    • @LNsynth
      @LNsynth  Před rokem +4

      i went ahead and tested it on a specific example with “air” which was written as [e][- e @] (it’s Sweet Ann and I was notebending and trying to make it sound more powerful than e@] 😭
      it worked well for Ann but as expected for Hio he went “eeeehh uwa”

    • @LNsynth
      @LNsynth  Před rokem +1

      It’s meant to be an unstressed “uh” sound,” Hio sometimes says it pretty closely to properly in this video a few times
