  • I built a custom french cleat cabinet to hold all my paints and painting tools. It's divided into three sections for a super high efficiency design with no wasted space. In addition to paints, it also holds stains, rollers, roller brushes, brushes, stir sticks, a large jug of glue, can opener tools, and more! Enjoy!

    Love this book! czcams.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

    Your ability to plan a cut list, keep them organized and the fact that they fit is outstanding. Instead of cutting off the hinge screws doubling up the ply would with a small square of ply would make me feel better. Great job Mate.

    Hahahahaah. First of all … I love the “ideas” you gave me for building my own custom cabinet. When I search videos I’m not expecting to find an end all to my search … I am looking for better suggestions than I might have at the time. You definitely provided that. I went thru every comment for your build and definitely came away with a few to incorporate. Some of the other “experts” that comment are the reason you will never find a build of mine on YT. Let’s see … how much did I spend to watch a video you painstakingly put together??? And I really did have to laugh at the one comment that said your “technical difficulties” at the end were too long …. Hahhahah! I guess there was no way to move on to another video …. MUST WATCH TO THE END. Lol. Thank you for all you did to put this together. It helped me and cost me only the time I chose to spend. Best of luck to you

    DAMN BRO! I have been looking all over CZcams for something exactly like this. YOU DID IT! Thank you. The only thing I would consider changing/adding is a place for spray paint cans BUT, other than that this thing is perfect. I totally want to try and make it. Do you post plan details anywhere for download? Just found you but I like the realness of your projects. You are using super expensive tools and you don't have some fancy-ass shop. Just real woodworking. Keep grinding, I'll be watching!

  • @chefmichaelgriffin4005

    Enjoying your videos! May I suggest you consider using a push rod when using a table saw! Like six million people a year are injured using that piece of equipment!! Great job on your workshop!

  • @dennisfahlstrom7422
    @dennisfahlstrom7422 Před 3 lety

    Ben, I sure enjoy your videos, your ideas and your pets. I think you are ready though to start making use of joinery. Nails and glue have their place and make any project a lot quicker to complete but they are a compromise in the strength of your end product. For example, those 5 one gallon paint cans probably weigh in at about 50 lbs. they might hold up for a week or a year but the use of some dados would insure their strength for as long as you keep the cabinet. Another recommendation is to consider upgrading your small portable table saw fo a full size one. Either a good contractors saw with a good fence and with at least a 2 hp motor or a cabinet saw with a larger motor. If you ever move on to working with hardwoods you’ll really appreciate the extra weight, accuracy and power and wonder why you didn’t go for one sooner. Buying new is not necessary. You can shop on Craigslist for good quality tools and get a fine saw for 1/4 - 1/2 of new cost.
    Keep up your well done videos and best wishes with your projects. BTW, YT has loads of well done woodworking projects that display excellent techniques employing many different styles of quality joinery. Norm Abrams has hundreds of projects from his 21 years on PBS.

    • @BenTardif
      @BenTardif  Před 4 lety +1

      The glue does all the work. Brads are there to hold it while the glue cures

    • @chrismoore9997
      @chrismoore9997 Před 4 lety

      It is sometimes surprising how strong glue is. I had some cabinets that were built around forty years ago that were built with finishing nails and glue. Even taking them apart on purpose to recycle the wood was a little difficult. In many places, the wood broke before the glue joint and the glue joints that did give looked like they were either a little starved for glue or not pulled tightly together when the cabinet was built. The person that built them was working with only a hand saw and nails. I don't think they even had a bar clamp.

    Next time you do French cleat consider insetting the back the cleat thickness so the cabinet perimeter is flush to the wall “no critters trying to make a home behind the cabinet”. Your really good with your assistant, patient and loving. We couldn’t help at chuckle watching you study your plan - the nervous leg giggle, goes with OCD. I am really jealous of the Baltic birch inside covering, I have a difficulty getting that material. You will have many years of enjoyment, looking forward to marble machines.

    @kerranz Před 3 lety

    You should drill a few holes at the bottom and more at the top so the paint fumes can escape. Also, I don't kow where you are located but in Florida paints have to go in a Metal Flammables cabinet, so keep an eye out for the Fire Marshall.

    That is a lot better than the stacks of paint cans I have on the floor of my garage. Paint utensils are randomly tossed into a large plastic bowl. Have you considered getting a second floof to keep your other one occupied? You probably now understand why cats getting cuddly on a keyboard while you're working is cute, but frustrating.

  • @crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230

    Have you ever tried building a box and then cut it down the middle into a door and back to make a cabinet? Of course, you don't have to cut it down the middle, depending on your needs.
