      this is pretty much what i do with my golden in the summer since she loves to swim in the lake down the road; so much easier to keep the hot spots away/find them and she still keeps her double coat - it’s just shorter and easier to deal with. more comfortable for her too; she’s always extra bouncy and happy after i trim her up and she’s 10 years old now lol. she’s extremely short and has extremely long belly fur almost down to her feet 🤦🏼‍♀️

      @its-a-matter-of-time. Před 4 lety +3

      @Alex D This dog was designed for Scotland. In Alaska he will be cold and in Taiwan he will be hot. In Alaska a Husky with super fur will do better and in Taiwan a short hair one will do better. The golden´s long fur can help in change of temperatures in mild places but in a hot place if left for more than 10 minutes the long fur will give him problems. My golden is always with the tongue out here in Taiwan and the long fur does nothing to cool him down. Taiwanese dogs have very short hair for a reason, so I have decided to refresh him by shaving his hair.

      @@its-a-matter-of-time. What you didn't like the other answer you got so you posted the exact same question again? Do your research - clipping a golden's hair can make them even hotter AND give them sunburn. It's not like hair on a human.

    • @its-a-matter-of-time.
      @its-a-matter-of-time. Před 4 lety +1

      @@pompulousify That is not true. I trimmed by golden retriever´s hair last week to 3 milimeters hair long and since then the dog is very relieved from many things and he is much happier: no more suffering from the heat and no more pulling his lounge out all the time, no more hiding in the fresher bathroom, it stopped scratching with his legs his skin (seems that the heat was giving him skin issues). Whoever says that long hair makes them cooler is lying. In hot weathers you should trim your dogs hair. Period.

      @pompulousify Před 4 lety +3

      @@its-a-matter-of-time. it's not the longer hair that keeps them cool you dolt. It's the double layer of hair. If you would've actually done some research you would've read about that. You're removing that secondary layer when you cut it that short.

    I would never do this to my golden. I know that they shed a lot and its work to keep your home clean. Weekly grooming is important and helps with the shedding with by monthly baths. So if you didn't want to deal with the hair then you should not of gotten a golden.. They have a double coat for a reason, cool in the summer and warm in the winter. There is also some concerns doing this that it will bugger up their ph balance in their skin.

She is merely using a trimmer to cut off the golden top. If she were to shave this golden, s/he would look white. Golden retrievers shed everywhere and a haircut like this is necessary twice a year for the dog's health and a clean house! Thank you for uploading this educational video for us, don't listen to the haters!

I give him this exact hair cut, but with scissors because my little clippers can't even go through a bit of his thick hair. It takes several days as he gets bored and can't stand for long periods of time due to arthritis. I wish the final product looked even ⅓ as good. Poor thing is gonna sue me one of these days.

    I had a springer spaniel / german shorthair mix, long hair too but not quite as thick as a golden. In summer we'd get this low cut for her, and she ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. She'd run around like a nut for DAYS afterwards. Plus, no one could keep their hands off the dog, she felt like a big plush toy with that short fur. She loved all the attention, too! If your dog's coat is compatible with a summer cut (dogs with guard hair coats like German shepherds aren't, etc) I suggest you do your dog a favor and get a short summer cut.

    first off this golden is not shaved... using a blade is shaving.There are some double coated breeds for example the Husky. any type of cutting the hair changes growing back in. I am giving 5 to 10 goldens full haircuts a day right now with the hot weather.. I have been grooming golden this way 25 years they all grow back the same. Its being aware of coat and length you are taking. If you are against this from a breeder stand point..Sorry, goldens have beautiful coats!! I love a full coated golden more than anything. In my experience its all positive dogs and owners happy no one.. or.. hair hurt.
    Maybe from a breeder stand point you should know..there is a likeliness your golden will get haircuts..maybe educating on how to do that would be best.

    What a beautiful cut, and a real handsome guy! The shorter cut is especially good for goldens who swim a lot - less tangled fur and they dry faster which can cut back on hot spots forming.

    the comments below state that the fur is supposed to regulate temperature. i ask from the heat or cold? because my place here is summer all year long.

      a fur only keeps a dog warm in sub zero temps. dogs can only cool themselfs by breathing through their mouth. they cant sweat./cool themselfs that way.
      so youll be doing your dog a favor buy trimming him a bit shorter in high temps. and if its realy hot you can cool them down with water and.or a cooling pad.

    I love goldens my boy is as well behaved as the one your doing. Whether it's right or not right it's personal preference. She's only doing what the owner has probably requested. If it's a happy healthy dog that's all that matters.

    • @sanchini1
      @sanchini1 Před 6 lety

      "She's only doing what the owner has probably requested" you don't know that, maybe she recommends it to owners. If she does, she is being irresponsible to her costumers. If they do request it, she should explain that it shouldn't be done to a Golden. All that being said, since she is posting an instructional video about how to do it, It's more likely she's an idiot!

    I love this trim on a golden retriever. People here being butthurt over this smh.. the long hairs on their legs are their signature but i also hate to see alot of owners let it grow so long. It looks so messy and imagine it being tangled and sticking everywhere. I think a trim like this is absolutely fine once jn a while.

  • @Devilsnightforlife
    @Devilsnightforlife Před 8 lety +2

    I have to admit; even though a golden looks more majestic with long hair, then he still manages to look beautiful with a summer cut. And a summer cut, given that it _is_ during summer, probably feels great for the dog during the hot hours. I could also imagine that it could feel pleasant for a golden retriever to not carry around so much fluff that jiggles around.

    • @FITZIEBLUE
      @FITZIEBLUE Před 3 lety +1

      it's for the owners benefit to do a "summer clip". The dogs are fine with the extra pelt. But mud, dirt, grass, leaves, water after a swim, all cause a messy inconvenience in the house; clipping eliminates that problem for the owner: dogs couldn't care less.

  • @itspawfect
    @itspawfect  Před 9 lety +16

    I have never burned a dog! Don't assume! I always powder to remove moisture.. It feels nice. Part of a spa experience.. This particular golden has had this haircut for the last few years.. Once a year. Always grows back. And if you really pay attention. I'm actually not shaving but using a snap on comb. My speed with scissors shows years of experience.
    Most show groomers and master of their trades scissor like this.
    At the end of the day... The client gets what they want.. The dog is happy.
    All that matters..
    If you are thinking of doing this to your golden... It's a great cut.. And the hair grows back the same.

    This looks great! My flat coated retriever is always so much happier and playful after getting groomed. I think the long coat of hair is too much for him and feels burdoned. Here's my problem, he's has a tumor and it's caused neuropathy in his feet so I want to try to trim him down at home. He loves getting groomed but I don't want to put the stress of a car ride on him. Could you recommend a particular clipper and what comb did you use? I like this cut becuase it's not too short. I know my job won't look as good but he would feel better without the stress. Thanks .

    Great looking cut! Groomers do what the owner requests, unfortunately, we can't do whatever we want or feel and still stay in business. We usually recommend a good brush out with our undercoat rake (recommend Paws Pamper undercoat rake NOT the Furminator) and trimming of the butt, feet, legs, tail and a bit around the ears (sometimes the hair hanging off the sides) but some owners insist on a full-body cut. Unless the dog has a poor coat already or skin issues there's never been a problem with the coat growing back :-)

    I've been told to never shave a golden bc they have a double coat which traps cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter. Just wash blow and trim then brush 2 * week to keep them from getting smelly by moving the oils around. I also think they look much prettier with the long double coat.

    • @noellechase1704

      you not supposed to shave any breed you should only be trimming the bottom of their paws thats it i rather groom my own dog don't trust groomers for this same reason

    • @kelykazelli
      @kelykazelli Před 6 lety +1

      Exactly how much cool air do you have to "trap" in the summer? I have very hot air. Not fun for the dog being trapped.

    • @moronicvideos
      @moronicvideos Před 4 lety

      @@kelykazelli The air acts as an insulator. The dog heats it in winter and it's kept from cooling off too soon. In summer it prevents the dog from absorbing too much heat too fast from the outer coat that's been warmed by the sun. It's the reason you can have sneakers in winter as long as it isn't wet.

    Golden Retrievers have a double coat and it magically traps ice cold air in 95 degree heat in the summer. 😆 So you should never shave them in the summer. I admit I'm not an expert but that sounds like a load of bullshit. I'm pretty sure the dog would be cooler if you shaved off his fur.

    • @nemobuscaptain3245
      @nemobuscaptain3245 Před rokem +1

      Sure it does. It has an air conditioner up it's a hole that pumps cold air directly to it's undercoat. It's a magical design, really.
