Coach here: would recommend filming yourself from stumps and square on for contact point.
Perhaps worth considering because you’re lower on confidence that you may be over committing on the front foot to not get bowled? I’d really encourage more active footwork.
Regardless, key things to remember are eyes level, watch the ball and remain balanced 👍🏼
Thanks for the comment! I was able to do some of this in a net yesterday. Must admit the last two sessions I've felt a lot better. New video just gone live but the footage from filming behind and at the side will be up over the weekend. Would love any further feedback you could give. I've also got a coaching session sorted for tomorrow. Thanks for watching!
Maybe a trigger may help if your feeling stuck and triggers help get your head in the right position. Additionally having a little trigger helps you judge the line and length of the ball which would help you know which shot to play outside of off 👍🏏
I've been in the nets with a coach today lots of foot drills and playing it late. Hoping that brings out a few improvements!
Sound
Watch the ball from the bowlers hand on to your bat and play nice and straight. This will help you to play the ball late and thereby improve your timing which will build your confidence. Keep it simple and don’t overthink. Good luck
Im pretty good at watching it out the hand, but I do often loose it in the air especially in these nets with no white screen at the back. Maybe that is why Im reaching at lot of the ball?
I did a winter coaching arrangement a few years ago (I started playing outdoor cricket 3 seasons ago) it was AUD$55 a session for 10 sessions. Cant remember if 30 or 60 mins per fortnight. I think the coach and you need to work well together or it doesnt work as well.I enjoyed it and if I was financially able to go again each year I would, but times are hard!
There's a guy I know locally from when we ran separate teams a few years ago. Just need it to stop raining here currently !
I’m a batsman with not the most textbook technique. But I’m constantly trying to improve my technique. And whenever I’m in bad form and have confidence issues I just go into the nets/games and forget all about technique, go full Shahid Afridi and let my hands/feet do everything instinctively. Try to be aggressive aswell since whenever you’re low on confidence you start to overrate the quality of bowling, some of the balls you faced in this video were very poor and you could’ve easily punished if you were batting with a clear mind and positive intent. If you miss you miss, no big deal, but try to hit each ball for a boundary. Just get into the rhythm of hitting balls hard and watch your confidence appear, your ability to see and time the ball will also improve and you can easily change between gears. Just remember, your technique is not an issue at all.
Thanks for the feedback mate, I took this approach to practice a little bit yesterday and felt a lot better. I'd still like to put that bottom hand away but I know from past experience that if I can get some time in the middle it'll naturally disappear.
Try using the square/ late cut s lot more, i used to try and smash everything but its much easier sometimes to use the pace of the ball and get easy runs
Cant go wrong with a 3rd man dab!
