Hey! Current Cubase user here... would you say that Bitwig has totally replaced Cubase for you, or is it more of an excellent complimentary/auxiliary DAW for a Cubase user?
So at 5:00 when arranging to make faster workflow. I have a tip for developers: It would be great if i could just click the right middle button (while left is still clicked) while you are hovering the arrangment you wanna put in. When you right click the arrangment of the whole track to the right side would be moved/offsetted the amount of time that the new loop you wanna put in is. So that it fits the track. Right clicking again would close the bar gap back to normal. Coz this is the way i work my tracks. Always find somewhere i need to cut the track open & then need to make space 16 or 32 bars extra to put in the new sections. If you could just right click & boom it would magically open space for these new bars, that would be so clever if you ask me. You should even be able to setup how many bars, you wanted it to open up to the right of the track! Well just my few cents! ;)
Thanks for a really thorough overview of how cool and easy to use Bitwig is. I used to be an FL Studio user, but I went fully Linux years ago. I was also surprised at how great Bitwig is. It has a very good piano roll which is the price of entry for any DAW. The signal processing capabilities, modulation, automation -- incredibly powerful. Then there's the Grid. Just wow. One thing that's often overlooked is the plug-in protection so that a glitchy VST can't crash the whole DAW. Another thing I really like is the piano roll option to display all your piano rolls while you edit, basically allowing you to see the entire score and switch from one instrument to another to edit.
@@loicpernot8779 Oh geez that was a long time ago at this point. I remember that FL had the best piano roll I ever used and I liked it's way of doing automation, but Bitwig is even more into the automation and modulation options. And it's piano roll is OK.
@@loicpernot8779 i used to be an fl user. a couple of days ago i bought bitwig. i am never going back, the tiny details i "miss" from fl (mostly shortcuts and controls that im not yet used to) are insignificant compared to the ease of use and power of everything else bitwig has to offer
Just a clarification - it's not only the devices with a dedicated sidechain input (or a button for one) that can be sidechained. There is also a modulator for adding a sidechain input to ANY parameter in ANY device. Ditto for audio rate modulation. I love it. The 8 track version came with my Nektar Keyboard. The more I learn, the more I love Bitwig. They have so much stuff streamlined for the user. Upgraded to Bitwig studio a while back. Didn't like it at first since most youtube tutorials use Fl Studio, and Ableton; so when I was learning I didn't realize how helpful it was for the user as it has so much stuff on the screen already, without having to shuffle through tabs and such.

A useful feature with the arrangement vs. clip views is that you can hit record and jam with the different scenes in the clip view, and what you're doing all shows up as an arrangement. Then obviously you can jump in and edit that. Another way I like to work with a mix of the two views is that you can have one track playing loops (clips) while the rest of the tracks are playing the arrangement, or vice versa. I find this useful when I'm working on adding a new track to something that I had started to arrange. Nice vid!
I would love more Bitwig tutorials, whether Grid or anything else Bitwiggy (is that even a word? It is now!) You have a good, clear way of explaining things which I enjoy.
I've been gazing lustfully at Bitwig for a while... and based on your videos I've decided to take the plunge. Affiliate link used. :-) I still enjoy the visual workflow of Reason, LOVE Voltage Modular, and my little NDLR gizmo, but needed something to bring everything together. And after a little messing about, I see that Bitwig overcomes all of the routing issues that still limit Reason. Thanks for the videos and I hope enjoy drinking that extra-strong coffee.
I've been using Bitwig for a couple of years and every time I watch a new tutorial I learn something new so I'd definitely appreciate some more Bitwig knowledge (once your new production facility is in place (good luck with that)).
I would love to know EVERYTHING about the grid! I have tried watching some tutorials but they are not as structured (or I might be missing something). Would really appreciate it if you made a series on it.

OK I'm sold. I had Bitwig 8-track already thanks to a hardware freebie but I had seen Bitwig Studio as an expense too far. Along comes a $100 Bitwig discount and any plans for Live 11 suite were blown straight out of the window. Wow. I am using Bitwig for more than 3 years now, and I have not realized that after automapping multi-out audio chains from a VST, those chains had their own seperate audio channels. I used to route the channels to new audio tracks and process seperately. Now after 3 years, I learn that we can process different audio outs within the same track. Never ever say that you know a software %100 inside out :)

After using Bitwig for a bit, you really miss that split screen between clips and the arrangement view when you go back to Ableton, which seems unnecessarily clunky by comparison. Also, that universal modulation thing is gold.
I’ve been doing a lot of research to find my first “real” daw. I narrowed it down to cubase and bitwig up until this video. I’m looking for a great daw for sound design and this looks perfect for me. I’m worried about cost and updates. I think I’ll start with the lower cost version and if I like it I’ll use some tax return money to upgrade it if that’s possible. Making the leap from Ableton to Bitwig and this was super helpful, already loving it for just the ability to integrate and sync with hardware/ MIDI way better than Ableton does, just using 16 track until there's a sale thanks Cameron :)
Hi Cameron, thanks for this useful video, because I'm Bitwig Studio newbee, on Windows 10. I assume it's an excellent DAW, in particular for my usage, for live performances and sound design sessions. My previous DAW was REAPER. The only "regret" I consider is you can't customize your homemade Grid devices as you want (M4L is more friendly for this).
Just bought Bitwig Studio 4 for 249 from thomann...thanks for being the final nail in the coffin!...used flstudio before, then after a couple years of doing pure dawless tried both ableton and studio one and did not gel with neither....bitwig (demo) felt like a homecoming 😁👍
I tried Ableton and FL Studio. I like FL Studio, i'm used to it, i know how to use it. But i bought a keyboard and it came with Bitwig so i'll give it a go, seems good.
Been a long time Ableton Live user and have actually been playing around with the beta of Live 12 and have been a bit frustrated with the very light changes and enhancements they have shown, so far. It also still likes to crash, which Live is famous for. I started watching a few tutorials on Bitwig and finally downloaded the 30 day trail to dig into it a bit further. So far, I am pretty interested and now coming back to the video. Thanks Cameron!
I love it when you can easily add missing chains with electrons overbridge plugin. I still have to add the audio tracks manually though in the timeline so that I can record separate outs, But I guess it doesn't matter that much as I save the syntakt/digitone and digitakt setup as a template.
Cool vid mate! Question tho; if you didn’t get on with Ableton Live, what is in Bitwig that made that much of a difference that you switched to it? The creator of Bitwig used to work for Ableton and, tbh, Bitwig is pretty similar; except for the modular setup and routing options, which imho, shits on Live. Thanks
Hey Venus, First: Thanks for the great video, it really helps a lot! Second: I see a lot of people arguing about busses in Bitwig. Some say it's equal to groups, others said you have to make an audio track and send the signals there. Could you maybe explain this to me, since I 1) do not really know what for, but 2) also don't know, when I should use it/this would be handy. Thanks so much in advance, keep up the great content!
Love the tips. I just bought Bitwig 4.3 (coming from Logic Pro) and am having my mind blown. I'd love to see any Bitwig vids you do and will check out ones you've done since this one. Thanks!
I had to pause at 0:44 to lmao irl fr! I'd love to see a video by you on how to learn a DAW. Not a tutorial, but how to approach the skills acquisition process.
Really useful video - thanks! I'm a Cubase user but looking to switch from an orchestral template approach to an electronic music one, so this looks like an interesting option. I still need to research how you go about mixing in Bitwig (you didn't show any of that), and I'd also like to know how much support there is for different scale tunings. Lots to catch up on! Thanks for the video :)
I purchased Bitwig 1 in 2014 on black friday for $199. I've since upgraded 2 times. I've yet to upgrade to version 4. Another cool thing about Bitwig is it supports Linux. I got into Linux because of Bitwig. Cool video, learned a few more tips.
Damn you, Deep Throat Cameron! I already have following DAWs: Reason Suite 11, Reaper, Maschine 2, Cool Edit Pro 2.1 (yeah, still using it!), Ableton Live 10 Suite and Cubase 11 Pro
Awesome tutorial, thanks! Just recently jumped onto the Bitwig train (your earlier videos originally got me interested), working in parallel with Studio One. Definitely would like to see more Bitwig tutorials, as well as more in-depth tutorials on Grid as you mentioned!
It's so much intuitive and fast than ableton tbh, I've used both, and bitwig felt like it made up for the holes ableton has. Never going back to Live 11.
FL makes no sense in terms of normal DAW usage but with some key knowledge you may get some joy!...Ableton is better for sure in that respect! Lol... Pro tools is kinda ancient! Reason is congested but sounds great! Studio one is very intuitive, but the sound of the instruments are not there yet! Logic sounds great from the jump but the mixer/automation etc is not the simplest to use! Cubase makes the most sense to me -Cubase 5! As one of the newest DAWS on the market Bit wig makes a lotta sense. especially for highly creative people !!! Great package
Neat video, thanks! While I'd love to see more about Grid, what I think would be more interesting is to hear about your experience of moving from Cubase to BitWig, what's similar, what's different. Another topic I'd find interesting is a tutorial-ish comparison / recipes on how to do things in Reason Players versus BitWig 4's Operators. My initial feeling is that they can achieve a lot of the same things, but Players are easier to read and understand at a glance, but Operators have the amazing capability of working per-note. (Gah I really wish BitWig was available as a VST host inside Studio One...)
This is unrelated to BitWIg, but my fave underhyped instrument is Nostromo, a Reason RE by Lectric Panda, and I'd love to see what you could do with it. I know RRP isn't quite your "brand" these days, but if you find some time to play with the demo, you might get to love it. Of course you could also probably get to mimic it in Grid, if you have many hours to spare as a crazy "look ma no hands" fun project.
Interesting.. I am a cubase user myself since 5.0 but I am on Linux rn, hence bitwig might come pretty handy for me. I have a lots of samples which I do need to stretch somewhat often and also like to use somekind of modulation to play different notes to match up the context on single samples.. So audio editing would be pretty important.. Also being capable to spin up a piano roll on a single shot sample.. Perhaps you like to make a cubase/bitwig comparison in the future?
Awesome tutorial and I'm looking at moving from Ableton to be bitwig on there 10-year anniversary see what makes sense thank you for the awesome work you're doing
just what im looking for, as i my mac blew up and now i got a PC ive had to download so emergency software for a while and bitwig looks good, thanks for the tips 🙂
9:37 Yes please cover Poly Grids in a dedicated video 🙌🏼 Thank you for his video BTW!! I just received Bitwig thru work, and cannot wait to get started. (Side question; In this video are you using version 3 or 4?)
Off topic but Still not. Speaking about your voice, I would love if you made a sample pack containing only your voice. You could be rambling about nothing at all and it would still make sense to use. Phrases, sentences or, what I would really like, your own recitation of Alan Watts. The beginners guide will be very handy in due time, thanks!
That was a great learning experience. Can you, let me/us know what you have learned a long the way? I just started the journey learning Bitwig, but I would love to hear some experience from a experienced one. You seem to know your way around. I have learned Cubase myself but I would love to find a new spark into Bitwig, it really seems like a huge advantage into music production (used in the right way). I hope to see more tutorials from you into perspective on deep learning this program.
I always enjoy your videos (is that your real voice :D ) and would love to see more beginner vids for Bitwig Studio to just dive into this great DAW or just for refreshing purposes. Keep up this great edutaining content!
Hiya. I've had Bitwig for 1 year (16 track) and I still can't believe how much you can do with it. It's so damn flexible. It's my first DAW so I had no baseline but it's really intuitive. All that limits is your own imagination . I want to upgrade to the full shebang and would really appreciate further tutorials. The more the better. Cheers.

@@ianbrown3304 I'm waiting for black Friday, they did £100 off last year, so fingers crossed something similar this year, I'm currently using Ableton Suite, which is great, but I have a P6 keyboard which works better with bitwig than it does with Ableton (long story). Heres hoping!
There are times I strongly consider switching from Cubase pro to bitwig. Every update I hold my breath for Steinberg to finally add some modern global modulation sources, and every update I’m still disappointed. Setting up LFO tool is a pain in the ass & the MIDI inserts are dated & haven’t been updated in like a decade. It seems like it wouldn’t be too hard to implement global modulators using similar routing to quick controls, but these days I’m starting to feel like they are selling to the scorer / composer crowd & leaving requests from beat makers at the bottom of the pile.
I love Bitwig, but there are two things getting in my way> 1. I'm trying to find a way to "normalize" recorded or sampled audio clips in Bitwig. I posted about this on forums and got a lot of ignorant arguments about normalizing. If there's no way to edit the audio on board, I'm wondering if I could access the audio files and normalize in an external editor.? 2. Load audio files in an external editor Any thoughts are appreciated. BTW, thanks for your vids . . . big help!!!

Delay 4 is the fucking coolest thing ever thank you for that! Had no idea how easy it was to do dub recording in bitwig lol
Damn you, Deep Throat Cameron! I already have following DAWs: Reason Suite 11, Reaper, Maschine 2, Cool Edit Pro 2.1 (yeah, still using it!), Ableton Live 10 Suite and Cubase 11 Pro
OMG your “shimmer delay”
Sounds so damn much like the Make Noise Echophone
Awesome tutorial, thanks! Just recently jumped onto the Bitwig train (your earlier videos originally got me interested), working in parallel with Studio One. Definitely would like to see more Bitwig tutorials, as well as more in-depth tutorials on Grid as you mentioned!
They have taken ableton's wonderful features and also added some great ones to it .
It's so much intuitive and fast than ableton tbh, I've used both, and bitwig felt like it made up for the holes ableton has. Never going back to Live 11.
@@himangshu1808 exact opposite for me. Things that take seconds in Ableton take minutes in Bitwig, and it's full of bugs too.
What a very, very nice and funny intro . . ironic but yet serious about it
LOVING bitwig, kinda hard to find stuff like this for the DAW, so this is appreciated
Venus theory is more funny than most comedy channel 😂
FL makes no sense in terms of normal DAW usage but with some key knowledge you may get some joy!...Ableton is better for sure in that respect! Lol... Pro tools is kinda ancient! Reason is congested but sounds great! Studio one is very intuitive, but the sound of the instruments are not there yet! Logic sounds great from the jump but the mixer/automation etc is not the simplest to use! Cubase makes the most sense to me -Cubase 5! As one of the newest DAWS on the market Bit wig makes a lotta sense. especially for highly creative people !!! Great package
Being a long time (since Atari) Cubase user, this is the first time I’m actually considering switching. It does feel a bit scary to honest.
Just moved over to Bitwig from Ableton so any way to learn is good for me. More please.
Of course you could also probably get to mimic it in Grid, if you have many hours to spare as a crazy "look ma no hands" fun project.
seeing how easy these things are in here make me cry as a fl user. noted, will try it, thanks.
You can also do sidechain with Audio Sidechain modulator. Quick, easy, very nice.
I bought a midi keyboard and it came with bitwig. Thanks for the video!
Awesome tutorial and I'm looking at moving from Ableton to be bitwig on there 10-year anniversary see what makes sense thank you for the awesome work you're doing
Best BW introduction video ever, Thanks dude. Gonna dive into this through your affliate !
great as always, thanks! and yes to more beginner videos and a tut for grid, if you like.
Cameron -> Polarity: when a master quotes another master :))
just what im looking for, as i my mac blew up and now i got a PC ive had to download so emergency software for a while and bitwig looks good, thanks for the tips 🙂
WOAH. I am definitely taking you up on that affiliate link, Bitwig looks like my dream DAW
Very interested in getting more Bitwig tutorials from you! This video was a great introduction, thanks!
Cheers.
I have the full version... I just can't save any projects lol 😂 (Ie. The Demo)
@@PB72UK Funny I was trying to remove some of my less than impressive attempts to avoid the judgement of posterity. I also haven't worked out whether templates are a reserved function for the full version or I haven't hit the right buttons. Still everyday is a learning opportunity and a chance to slip on a banana.
I have much interest in videos about Grid because i love VCV, Eurorack & Reaktor. Please feel encouraged regarding Grid videos.
Thanks again for a well thought out video! I have started a 30 trial 'From the link below' for Bitwig. I can see I have a lot to learn.
Gratitude .♥
yes The Grid in depth please.
Spot on overview. Thank you! 👻
Спасибо дядька 🤓 полезные вещи показал!
I don't feel so bad now, because I can run ANY DAW except FL. Thanks Buckaroonie!
dragging scenes would have saved me some time 😂 I've been recording them over
Hola. Buen inicio de tutorial. Acabo de meterme en bitwig con AV Linux desde W10 y Albleton. Espero más vídeos pronto! Saludos
Love your sense of humor!
Good show. Watch that fringe, though - getting very 1930s.
Great! Please more Bitwig videos. Thanks!
Your Voice... is so full. You should be a commentator
I love Bitwig, but there are two things getting in my way>
1. I'm trying to find a way to "normalize" recorded or sampled audio clips in Bitwig. I posted about this on forums and got a lot of ignorant arguments about normalizing. If there's no way to edit the audio on board, I'm wondering if I could access the audio files and normalize in an external editor.?
2. Load audio files in an external editor
Any thoughts are appreciated.
BTW, thanks for your vids . . . big help!!!
