  • @josephgioielli
    @josephgioielli Před 3 lety +10

    I believe that "Joe" was a symbolic representation of the soldiers returning home from Viet Nam. They were often vilified, called "baby killers" and disgraced in public opinion. Joe was also a soldier accused of a crime he didn't commit and being persecuted unfairly. As a very small child in the early 70s this show helped me to understand what the grown up were talking about.

It almost seems to be one of the forgotten Saturday morning offerings. I'll admit to a soft spot for German Shepards. I had one for 13 years, until she was too old for a good quality of life. • @rawmark
    @rawmark Před 3 lety +2

    I loved this shoe. The one thing I remember is that Joe was one of the last of the straight backed German Shepherds that would be seen on tv. In the U.S. we started to mutilate the appearance of the GSD and now that dog, or what we know today, as the roach backed gsd, has all sorts of joint and back problems. Thankfully there is a resurgence and many people understand and appreciate the original GSD. So, if you look hard enough, you can find a straight backed GSD.
    But back to the show. I just remember being heart broken when this show ended. It should have lasted for four or five years but only lasted for two.

    The other day I was telling my wife about RJR, which I watched at least a few times but she did not recall, though we were both devoted fans of Saturday morning -- she's 4 years younger than me, which probably explains it.
    So I was delighted to find this video.
    My guess is that one more inspiration for RJR was the TV series _Kung-Fu_ due to the "main character who's always on the run" aspect.
    Y'know, I can just picture Joe replacing Caine in an episode of _Kung-Fu_ -- trotting across the desert, quietly entering a saloon filled with drunk ruffians, telling the barkeep "I seek... Alpo" and then being told, "we don't cotton ta German shepherds in these parts, fleabag," whereupon Joe unleashes hell in a slow-motion fight sequence.

    I loved Run Joe Run. I haven't thought about it in years. 1974 was my senior year, but I was still watching Saturday morning TV, at least the live-action series, which were all pretty good. But Joe and Land of the Lost were the best. I did drop Joe after season 1 because taking out Arch Whiting and his emotive stares into the distance as Joe took off again were part of the show's chemistry with the viewer, and I was never one to suffer fool producers who thought they knew better than me. So they made the decision for me, and I wrote NBC to tell them exactly what fools they'd been with Joe and all the good new shows they'd cancelled, such as Joe Forrester, Born Free, and Lucas Tanner. BTW, you mentioned Diana Muldaur once, and I think Born Free was her only ever co-starring series role. Other than that she had the recurring role in McCloud and the doctor replacement in the disaster that was ST-TNG season 2. Thanks for the Run Joe Run video.

    I didn't watch much of this show because I had to work Saturdays. In High School I worked in a grocery store I'd go to school 1/2 A day worked the other 1/2 & worked Saturdays. It sounded like a great show 200$ is still a good sum of money for an elderly person on limited income. The 1970's was a great time for interesting shows back then they're were only 3 TV Networks.

    Loved that show, and remember young Kristy McNichol in one episode.
    You should do a video about her in the movie "Little Darlings" my favorite film!

      Don, you probably watched something on another channel that aired the same time. Choosing was tough when you didn't have a VCR. :)

    This really brought back memories. Run, Joe, Run got me hooked on classic silents featuring Strongheart and Thunder. It is really good to hear that there is at least a possibility that this great series might be available on DVD/streaming. Thanks, Dave. BTW, your interview with Judy Norton is pure gold.

    WOOOOOWWWW!!!! Dave, there is no limit to your childhood memories. I used to love this show and i tried to watch every episode but my memory of it being faded, i don't remember if i did see every episode. All i know is i was in front of the TV every saturday morning, tuned into NBC. [Wasn't this show in a 'rotating threesome' with two other shows, or am i thinking of something else?] David Geddes song 'Run, Joey Run' actually has nothing to do with the show and is a totally separate entity, but the name of the song just might have been inspired by the show [and i have that song!] Thanks, once again for the memories, my friend, this is a show that completely eluded my memory until now. I will have to find the episodes you talked about and watch them.

    German Shepards are the best dog you’ll ever have, if you get one from a real breeder. If you get one with no papers from somebody’s backyard, beware. But they really are fantastic.

    This is one of those shows that I never did watch. Maybe I was too busy with taking care of my own dog, reading, art, and gardening. My dog was a mixed breed dog. He was a stray pup who stopped by to visit me when I was outside and he never left. I was always an animal lover and for a period of time, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I have never had a German Shepherd Dog (GSD). I had a friend who lived up the street from me who had a German Shepherd named Beauty. She was cute as a puppy can be. I thought I wanted to get a GSD until my sister and I were walking to the store one day. We were going past a yard that was surrounded by some kind of dense shrubbery. A dog came out from behind the bushes and grabbed my leg with his teeth. It was unprovoked attack. His owner apologized to me and said he didn't know why the dog bit me. After that, I decided that a different dog would be a better option.
    The dog I have now is a Great Pyrenees and Akita mix. He's the best dog and so smart. He's practically trained himself.

    What a line up! Run Joe Run THEN Land of the Lost. I feel so sorry for kids these days. I agree, season one was better than the second. Even at 10 or 11 years old it didn't make much sense (like season 3 of LOTL - unwatchable then and now). Back then, I was ignorant of The Fugitive but when I started watching that series every afternoon in the '90s on A&E, it took me back to Run Joe Run. I love the idea of Dr. Richard Kimble and Joe together. Might as well add all the other shows that had The Fugitive as their foundation: Werewolf ('86-87 FOX) and Nowhere Man ('95-96 WB - I think).
