Shaolin Kungfu includes the use of fists and weapons. According to Shaolin records, it has both long and short weapons. The meteor hammer is a soft weapon, a metal head tied to a rope that can strike by surprise due to swinging.
Chen Tongchuan, 54, is the headmaster of the Dengfeng Wushu School in central China's Henan Province. He has been practicing Wushu for more than 40 years. The meteor hammer is his best practice. #kungfu #chinesekungfu #wushu

They are rebellious teenagers... just like the meteor hammer itself. A staff will listen to it's wielder, and be obedient, generally, as it has no disconnect from the body when grasped.
The meteor hammer, or any other soft weapon, is rebellious. It is free of influence from the body but it still must be tamed. It is stubborn and to impose on it is only a way to hurt oneself.
So it's almost poetic in that there are such similarities between being a young rebellious teen and wielding one in weapon form.

Such a fantastically impractical and showy weapon. Beautiful and elegant in trained hands, but chaotic and useless in the untrained. This is the kinda thing that you wouldn't expect to see in medieval combat but -if it ever did show up- you would probably want to avoid at all costs. Its like a short range sling with no reload time and no ammo in the hands of a master.

The staff, a hard weapon, is understandable, and-- though fast-- predictable, if you are also fast. The meteor hammer, a soft weapon, is always at least somewhat chaotic and unpredictable, even to the wielder, who must learn to move with the weapon's occasionally surprising reactions to their intent. Such is the difference between the era of hard power-- when our nations achieved relative peace only by battling each other to stalemates and gradually letting animosity cool to mutual respect-- and the era of soft power, where we must now achieve and maintain peace by demonstrating and discussing our ideas and practices with though and care, and come to understand and accept our differences as reinforcing strengths in a global world.

Interesting lesson and anecdote to use the Meteor Hammer to impose lessons on rowdy young youths... the Master uses a strict but measured tone to guide them and instead of severe discipline or harsh words of belittlement he chooses to encourage the young pupils and still train them with wisdom and compassion

A pendulum is one of the simplest machines in physics. But a double pendulum, with the mere addition of a single extra pivot, becomes one of the most chaotic and unpredictable machines in physics. The meteor hammer can be either, or neither, and can switch back and forth. A clever and elegant weapon, and one to be aware of, since it is one of the few ranged weapons that can be easily concealed, even from a metal detector, and one of the only concealable weapons capable of engaging multiple closing opponents at once. A good weapon for providing both a quiet entrance and the option for a noisy-- and rapid-- exit.

How could this possibly be used to best effect?
A line of wielders against charging swordsmen? Against horse cavalry?
Useless against archers, it would be effective against equal numbers of swordsmen; but, if one were outnumbered, it could only be used maybe twice before you were overwhelmed.

    • @Schizz76
      @Schizz76 Před 7 měsíci

It’ll never be effective in a geld
Battle with multiple people, it’s rowdy and unless you can communicate your moves with your allies, the possibility of hitting compatriots is too high.
At best, this is either for performance or against singular targets

Variations of this weapon exist in various shamanic cultures, from the Arctic in the far north to the Andes and Polynesia in the south. Its mostly used as a non-lethal weapon to capture live animals (from herds or the wild), but it is still an effective weapon for hunting. Tools that can be used as weapons have the advantage of being able to be carried without raising suspicions. If I'm not mistaken, the nunchaku was originally also a farming tool.
ps: Of course, the mainstream media from certain stolen territories are inverting the facts and saying that they created it and shamanic peoples copied it, as they do with literally everything.

Yeah it does but I give it the benefit of the doubt. Long ago China had these weapons for warfare so it must have been somewhat effective or at least intimidating. There’s also a fact that a gun in an untrained hand can be dangerous as shit but with practice it can be used effectively.

Then there was a time we were sparing with long swords and he cut my head off. Mum grounded us both for 2 weeks.
Luck we never messed with this weapon because this is a serious weapon that would onflict serious damage and not just some gimmicky bullshit like a sword or a bow.
