Growing Up with Dark Skin in the Philippines And My Experience of Colorism & Internalized Racism

- Äas pĆidĂĄn 20. 08. 2020
- This video talks about my struggles with colorism and internalized racism as a result of growing up having a dark skin tone. It aims to enlighten the viewers the subconcious mindset and biases against people with dark skin tone. The topic dwells a little on history and the legacy of Spanish colonization of the Philippines. It also deals with internalized biases against one's (especially Austronesian) phenotype and the consequences of passing as a different ethnic group.

Sorry not sorry but brown skin looks more beautiful. It looks healthy and alive. Whiteness seems lifeless to me. Rock your golden and brown tones â€ïž
I'm rocking it. đ thanks
All skin types are beautiful. Love yourselves.
@@ninipaloma3171 i think weâre all aware of that. Black and brown skin is so beautiful and nobody talks about it.
Please go take your All Skin Matters somewhere else please.
@@ricecristi idk why you think we canât spread the message to everyone to all tones. I would find that reply annoying if you werenât talking down to people with fair tones but you weređ. I mean itâs totally not like it can be offensive to poc who have albinism.đ
@@ricecristi im brown but pls all skin colour is beautiful. Stop reverse racism. Because reverse racism is racism too.
Thank you so so much for this video, this is such an important conversation to have esp, for all of us South East Asians who were formerly colonized by white people or East Asians and got told our natural features are ugly & undesirable, and are still hung up on these messed up & unattainable beauty standards. Much love from Vietnam đđđ
Your welcome. I'm glad tha you find this video helpful. Yes, there isn't much conversation on how such beauty standards are affecting us.
This ideology isnât just from colonialism though. Look at Thailand, Japan, etc Asian countries that werenât colonized. And whiter skin is also seen as a desirable trait.
That's the spirit! Love the message of this video â€ïž
Thanks for watching Princess!

Dear young man. All humans are beautiful. I know it is better to be a loving person. We are all, without exception, perfect. God or Goddess, created us.
Thanks đ
I read the title as âGrowing up dark, with skinâ.. Interesting title placement haha.
Haha i get it, thumbnail. I have quite bad editing skills so my thumbnails aren't really noteworthy haha
And when you die it wonât even matter what your skin tone is. Embrace who, god, has made đ«” to be.
True. At the end, no one will know what you look like. Hehe
Learn to love who you are. Black, Brown, white, we are all the same
Let's love our differences. â€ïž
You are what they call dark skin? Really
They used to call me dark before but I haven't been called dark since 2015. I probably became lighter now. But I grew up being called dark. đ
Im also an east asian looking kid with darker skin tone
It's ok to have dark skin.
Your R beautiful
idol meet and greet naman bisita ako sa office mo
Got curious with the lawschool classmate...hmmmm
I will not reveal. Time to move forward. Hehe
Carlo Choo i respect that. keep safe đ
Brown skin I thought always looked better. Better than trying to fake a tan out in the sun.
I am a naturalist and we should start rocking out our own features and skin tone regardless of race and ethnicity.
You do not have to prove anything to anyone. They have a problem not you.
You're right but I think it's also best for the society to stop the stigma against people with dark skin. It's damaging for young children to think that they're not enough because of their skin tone.
If you are dark skin? I know I look like a tire.
A tire doesn't necessarily mean it's ugly or bad. đ Slay that skin tone đđđ
@@CharmfulCarlie No my complexion is the color of a untarnished copper penny. Just doing some contrasting. Everyone should love themselves whoever they are.
OK but where is the dark skin it because you ainât dark skinned the hell
I used to be darker but I wasn't able to show a picture of it in the video.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. Grow up and get over your victimhood.
I'm not sure if you watched the whole video because obviously I got over it. I think you should be more empathetic considering the unnecessary hate and standards impose upon us people.
Your not even dark bro. Omg the standards are through the roof
I understand but in Southeast Asia, darkness is also set on different standard. đ
