- It's actually pretty easy to create a multi-camera video - I typically use two iPhones plus a separate audio channel. Editing, including switching between cameras is straightforward in iMovie, and in this video I'll show you two methods to do it.

Thank you so much for your kind words Adrian. Very heartwarming.

Wow! Thank you so much, what a helpful video. I tried watching other tutorials, but this one was the best one!
Great to hear Amy!
Glad I found this older video… I’ve done a lot of editing in iMovie years ago, but rarely multi cam… the marker trick is going to save me a ton of time! Also setting PiP helps get those cutaways dialed in perfectly. Thank you!
Thank you for your wonderful comment! Things haven't changed much with iMovie, so pretty much everything still applies!
That was SUCH a helpful video! One of the best educational videos I've seen in a long time. Thanks so much.
Thanks Jono for your kind words :-)

@@KurtPapke Of course! No problem! 😊Just keep being awesome! 😎
Great video. Perfect timing to find this. I am looking at how to do professional product highlight videos and i think this will be a good technique that I can use to shoot them.
You bet. Multiple camera angles add a lot of visual interest.
Hey Kurt! Thank you so much for doing this video. This is exactly what I’m looking for! I’m using a Nikon D7000 stationary and an iPhone stationary and handheld along with a Zoom H5.
You are smart to use the Zoom H5. That's does a great job for your audio.
This isn’t tryout only video I found very helpful. You’re a life saver to a guy like me who’s just starting out and doesn’t have the cash to spend on more expensive workstations. Thanks again!!!
Very very useful, thanks a lot!
Gla to hear it Juan!
Very helpful Kurt Thank You!!
You are welcome Adrian!
Thanks man, this was a great help for me...

Glad you found it helpful!
Excellant...thank you!
You are most welcome BigFehr!
Very helpful
Thanks❤
Thanks Emmy!
This is cool sir. I already subscribed to your channel. I really love your content.
Thanks, I appreciate the sub!
Thasnks for the info. Much appreciated. :)
Glad you found it helpful Mr Jones!
This is quite helpful. I'm trying to make homemade music videos and I couldn't figure out how to stitch multiple videos together. But it seems like the second method you showed where there's the base video, then you edit parts in from other videos should work.
Yep, the key with music videos is syncing the sound of course.
informative. Thank you
Thanks Isaac - I packed a lot of stuff in that video!
Thanks for the video, I liked the method one, it flows well into iMove limitations and workflow, liked the tips for multi cam to detect (I prefer to use side by side than PiP preview, just a preference) interesting cuts. I think that if you have fixed multi cam then you could mix method 2 first to merge your shots and then use method one for B-Roll added content to give more movements to the filming. nice tutorial, have a nice day.
Thanks Paul for taking the time to provide detailed feedback, much appreciated!
Thanks, Kurt! Super helpful. You’re a good man.
Nick Serena lol! Thanks Nick.
Kurt, great video, simple and clear. Was rather disappointed when it finished (was enjoying too much).
Thank you for your positive comment Tony, and your sense of humor :-)
Very helpful tutorial on creating a video from multiple camera feeds. Thanks so much for posting. What are the shortcut keys that you are using for marking the beginning and end of a video segment?
Thanks! The "m" key adds a mark at the cursor.
Nice moves
Lol!
THANK YOU! Great instrucion. I've been working for days on something racking my brain to make oy work and found your video. Now I have great finished tow camera music vid.
Great to hear jar, thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks. It seems that this video is going to be enough help to get me pass multicam headache with imovie.
By accident I happend to have probably the same tripod. But what are the other and the phone clips you are using.
I'm not really happy with either of the tripod adapters, and when I just did a search for them I don't think they are available anymore. That little Ultrapod is invaluable though - lightweight, and I use the velcro to strap it to things all the time.
Greeting from the UK…. This is the best easy to follow video o this subject. Fantastic 🫡
Just one question. When using the Zoom H1 Lav mic is there any way to attach2x wireless lane mics to it for interview etc.
Once again many thanks.
Greetings! Thanks for the kind comment. AFAIK there is no way to attach 2 mics easily to the H1, but with a little tinkering: czcams.com/video/1H7EWd0hreA/video.htmlsi=PdQ7934GiiLy-kGy. Caveat: I have not done this myself.
@@KurtPapke excellent. Thank you again. I’ve watched it and ordered one.
I’ve saved your video. I can see it will come in handy many times. 🙌🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧
Kurt, great tutorial! Which version iMovie do you use? Using 10.1.6 - every time I get the urge to upgrade to more current, I read horror stories about how Apple has made it less intuitive, removed features. Thanks!
I use 10.1.14, which is the latest. Apple doesn't mess with the user interface nor the look and feel between major releases. You should feel confident upgrading to the latest version since you're already on v10.
Thanks for posting this video! I found it very helpful. I have a question for you...I did a 2 camera shoot of myself playing the piano with an iPhone, an iPad and then for audio I recorded in stereo directly to my DAW. I then imported the wav (audio file) into iMovie, lined it up at the top of the piece using the clap method with the two videos from the iPhone & iPad. The piece I played was about 6 minutes long. Everything lined up perfectly at the beginning but after about a minute both of the videos "drifted" and no longer lined up with the audio. One of the two videos drifted more radically than the other! I checked to make sure the frame rates on both cameras were the same and they were so that wasn't the issue. Might you know why the videos won't stay locked to the audio track? Thanks for your help!

Thanks Kurt for these explanations ! I'm from France (sorry for my English), and during this quarantine period I try to practice film editing. I've just filmed a recipe with two cameras to get two different angles but I don't know how too synchronize them. do you have any solution ? thanks again !!
Perhaps I don't understand your question, but that is what the video is all about.
This is Val.. I'm trying to record me singing an original song, guitar/vocal, with 3 iPhone camera's then syncing them together to put on CZcams. I had a commitment from some one to show me how to do this, but they backed out. Kurt's video "Shoot multicamiPhonevideo, edit in iMovie" is helpful but some of it is above my computer skill level.
Best of luck to you Val - 3 cameras is a challenging assignment - yikes!
grazie!!!!!
Prego!
Hi Kurt! Thank you for the clear and easy to follow instructions. However, I have a problem. I cannot find the multicam editing function. I have two clips - from iPhone and from iPad. I want to cut easily and use parts from one of the clips in the other clip which is “the main”. How can I do this? Thank you ✨
Unlike Final Cut, iMovie has no specific multicam functions. My video is all about how to do exactly what you are asking about. Just chose which clip is your "main", then overlay pieces of the other clip on top of it.
@@KurtPapke thank you for your reply! I understand this. However, I do not understand how to overlay, how to put the second clip above the main clip. When I drag it, it just comes in front of the main one, not above it… I guess there is something I just miss out on…
@@InnerCompassZoriStefanova If you are on a Mac, you drag and drop the overlay clip above the main timeline. If you are on iPad or iPhone, then follow this tutorial: czcams.com/video/wy9FruWwMfo/video.html
@@KurtPapke I got it! Thank you, Kurt. On the iPad this function is called Cutaway. I’m now figuring out how to use it in the right way. Greetings
@@InnerCompassZoriStefanova Thanks for letting me know, and good luck with your project!
And one thing more. Is there some particular reason to have three claps instead of one like it used to be with those old fasioned boards which name I can not recall. We call them klaffi in Finnish I’d guess.
The three claps just makes it easy to find in iMovie - it distinguishes it from a sudden noise like something falling on the floor.
@@KurtPapke How do you then sync the clips? I couldn't figure out how to get clips synced more accurately than couple of frames off.
@@sampolehtinen6387 See my video on syncing audio in iMovie: czcams.com/video/roFZmxZK7hk/video.html
Do both phones need to have the FilMic Pro?
No, you can use the standard Camera app.
@@KurtPapke I have 2 phones that I’m trying to use 2 phones different Apple log ins. Am I able to do that?
@@greywolf3160 Yes as long as you can get all the clips to your Mac.
iMovie & Protools together
Never tried Protools - how would that help with Multicam editing?
