  • Today we are covering Finger Lakes Wines!! I'll share my favorite Upstate New York wineries and wines and tips on wine touring in the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes is one of my favorite regions. It's not the easiest region to get to though ( 4 hour drive from NYC, 2.5 hr drive from Buffalo, 1.5 hr from Syracuse). But once you are there, driving around is relatively easy and the tastings are typically $10-$20. Some wineries accept walk-ins but I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time.
Not exhaustive, but here are some of the wineries that I have enjoyed going to in the past few years:
    Dr Konstantin Frank
    Hermann Wiemer
    Ravines
    Lamoreaux Landing
    Fox Run
    Anthony Road
    Red Newt
Forgot to mention that the Lamoreaux Estate Red was ONLY $10
    2021 T23 Unoaked Cabernet Franc $20
    2018 Cabernet Franc $25
My Bucket list wineries for my next trip (Boundary Break, Element Winery)
Besides great wines, there are beautiful gorges and hiking areas like Watkins Glen State Park, Boat rentals on Seneca or Cayuga Lake, tons of farmers markets.
Can't wait to go back there again!!
    Cheers!
    Vivian

How wild, I just got back from a week at the lakes. I searched CZcams to see what opinions were out there, and I find a Cornell alum. I graduated from Ithaca College in '09.
I would say Keuka is my favorite of the lakes. Keuka Springs has some lovely wines including their Rieslings, a new Traminette, and a red blend called Miller's Cover.
Also a shout out for Yates Cellar's. The owner runs virtually a one man operation. He runs the tastings himself and has unique whites and reds. Particularly his blends. Bone Dry is a good one. Stop for a tasting as he sometimes switches his blends each year. For example the 2020 Bone Dry may not be the same as a '21.
I'll have to check out more of your videos. I'm curious about the Niagra region, and expanding beyond the lakes myself. Recommendations on where to start? I'm leaning toward semi-sweet wines. Rieslings, Blaufrankish, Gwertz, and Cab Francs this year.

Nice of you to make this video in response to requests. I’m in northern NJ, so this is my region. Riesling is my favorite white, and I had just learned of Rkatsiteli just before watching your video. Always fun and informative to watch your videos.

Hi there, it's pronounced QKA not Kay-you-ka. It also had many wineries before Dr. Frank's including Taylor winery founded in 1880, though it was bought by Coca Cola and closed in the 90's.

I've had only the Ravines Cab Franc thus far, so hard to pick a favorite. :) Looking forward to exploring some of these wines. Thanks for the intro!

Hi Vivian! Just discovered your channel and I love it! Have you ever been to Rasta Ranch Winery in Hector, NY in the Fingerlakes? My friend has and he is taking me there in the Spring. I was there over the summer, but they were closed on that day. So I am going in the Spring. It's a Hippie Place my friend told me. Fingerlakes is beautiful. I love it out there and all the wineries. 🥰

You will also need to eat ! On the lower East side of Seneca L. there is excellent food @ Elf in the Oak - also nearby is Two Goats brewpub that serves ( & that's all they serve ) an incredible Beef on Weck with ALL locally sourced ingredients. ................. and they have the best ( IMO ) view from the east side of our largest lake. BEWARE !!! Crowd is often boisterous !!!

Pretty sure the name is Konstantin Frank.

You need more than two days to do the best wineries on Seneca. It has about 40 wineries total, but to visit the very best, several days are in order just for Seneca alone.

Standing Stone on Seneca has some of the original vinifera vines. Also check out Ports of NY in Ithaca if you like port.
