OMG, I LOVE this song, I LOVE Josephine, everything about her was phenomenal. She was so liberated and way ahead of her time. The fact that she was born into poverty, in St Louis AND was illegitimate, but let none of that stop her, is a testament to her incredible character and talent. She said herself that she was "a terrified young girl" when she moved to Paris at 19 years of age. But, she did it because she knew that, as a black woman in America in the early 20th century, she had got as far as she could go. So the only way to go further was to go to Europe. Josephine Baker was a class act. Young artists today could learn a lot from her.
I love "Tomatoes" so much! I love it when she smiles & it's so genuine, unlike many celebrities today while they're performing. Her aura is just so endearing! Not to mention that her body looks great! She's about 50 here! I hope I look like her when I get to that age! Much love Mrs. Baker. Thank you for being an inspiration to many!
