  • On many of our trips we like to visit interesting local historic houses, so here are 4 of our favourites. The first 2 properties are new to our channel and then we take a look at two houses from earlier videos. The first house is Erddig , a National Trust owned property about 2 miles outside Wrexham. It is an impressive country house built during the 17th and 18th centuries, set in a 1900 acre estate. The next location is Scotney Castle, south east of Lamberhurst in Kent. The central feature is the ruins of Old Scotney Castle, a medieval moated manor house. At the top of the gardens stands a house built between 1835 and 1843 by Edward Hussey to replace the old castle. Next is Abbotsford, which is located in the Scottish Borders, not far from the lovely town of Melrose. The house was built as the residence of historical novelist and poet, Sir Walter Scott. Finally we look around Penrhyn Castle in Llandygau near Bangor in North Wales. It is constructed in the style of a Norman castle, designed by the architect Thomas Hopper for George Dawkins Pennet.
