It's not that they can't afford to eat other things, they chose to eat this because it isn't viewed as disgusting or whatever most westerners will say about eating offal. Here it's just another meat.
She certainly doesn't need you to feel sorry for her. Believe it or not, not everyone eats the same food you do, so if anything you should ve sorry for the poor attitude you have towards her culture. Sros is lucky, she doesn't need to rely on processed foods, fast food, etc like what many people are used to in the West.
