Hey friends, so you may have heard me mention a few times in previous videos that last year a bunch of my stuff got stolen from my Tesla and it got me thinking - what would I do if I had to replace everything I had, but on a smaller budget? In this video, I take you through the three versions of the same 'Every Day Carry' I'd have at different price points - Budget, Premium and Luxury!

Great video as always. For the first time in a long while, i felt ali spoke to my category. I would be going for the 2nd tier; quality without breaking the bank. Except for the Mac though, i am a Windows guyđ (mac is pricyđ€«). Cheers mate.
Much respect from Africa đ.

The people of UK and the people of Europe are very kind soft spoken and very sophisticated..

It feels like the budget option was just thrown in for ârelatabilityâ (The backpack - random bag, nothing particularly nice about it; laptop - ASUS zenbook something-or-other). For those actually looking for a budget backpack, go for something like a Targus Classic. Itâs cheaper, robust, and you wonât trash the (relatively) expensive contents within like you would with a Jansport (which isnât made for carrying pricey tech). I wish they (yes - âtheyâ) put as much love into showing the best options at all price points as they did in plugging the stationery.
They just wrote bag in amazon then bought the first promoted one lol.
In their defense, premium and luxury bags are more affordable than premium and luxury tech. Meaning, they were probably able to easily come up with ideas for the budget options by asking staff, friends, etc., but no one actually had a budget option they already used.
Agree , it comes off disingenuous
Premium and luxury brands really arenât more affordable though. When I was a student, I wouldnât dream of spending over ÂŁ100 on a backpack. And the two Peak Design models in this video arenât a good illustration of Premium vs. Luxury backpacks (I know PD well - Iâve put money in a few of their kickstarter campaigns). Peak sells at different price points for different needs, and both Peak bags in this video are premium products, targeting a photography niche (same as Tumi or Briggs & Riley are also premium, targeting business users). Luxury bags have a broad price range and prioritise style over practicality. For example, a luxury alternative to a Jansport could be a Coach backpack, whilst designer brands (e.g. Gucci, Burberry etc.) would be a the top-end, costing much more than the most expensive Peak backpack. âLuxuryâ is subjective, and relative to the buyer but regardless of definition, those on a budget would not consider premium or luxury bags, nor would they find them more affordable (especially when money is better spent on a laptop, for example). The sub-ÂŁ50 market is excellent for backpacks, and if Ali were indeed on a budget, I donât believe for one second he would choose to put his gear in that Jansport (which is for school kids or packing some T-shirts on a weekend away). They couldâve done better to illustrate some good options available at lower price points (like Targus) which are just as durable and practical as a Peak, but without the premium materials and nice touches. Thatâs why the âbudgetâ example feels shoehorned for ârelatabilityâ (subs and likes are all equal, after all). No one was asking for a budget option, but if you do it, you might as well do it well. This wasnât done well.
Yes. The budget version wasnât really thought through, besides the price. I have a bag from ikea thatâs designed better than that and can carry tech safely. It had no style and no function. The products didnât even list their features as to why these were the best versions of budgets. Unfortunate and kind of lazy. I know heâs not a tech reviewer. But⊠at least do some research and sign posting.
I feel that the budget version was made to be a defence system against "You are rich" comments. The backpack, as you said "a random bag from amazon" - there could be better options. The laptop is alright. Tablet section - as you said with the iPad mini "a glorified kindle" you could have recommend a Kindle or a budget e-reader - good for reeding books or documents. The camera section: while the idea of having a camera to take pictures is valid and I'd say makes the experience better it does not mean that you need a camera - recommending to spend that money towards a higher end iPhone or Android phone would have been better - it would also take great photos.
To summarize the budge section feel rushed and seems like there was little to no research of each item. I mentioned at the begining the it seems like a defence against 'You are rich" comments - I'm not against having nice things. You have made it, You can have nice things, but when trying to create a budget version put some time into reaserch.
I felt the same way. Incase bags are a great affordable option. Lumix has some great budget cameras that do everything the Sony that he recommended does for around $350 dollars. And like you said, a kindle option would have been great. Definitely felt like not a lot of thought and time was given to the budget option.
Overall, I thought it was a great video and not trying to knock anyone who can afford nice things! I definitely wish I could afford a Leica. Just wish it felt like the same amount of time and research was given to each option listed.
Jack Wolfskin Dayton is about the same price as the Jansport and has YKK zippers and great materials. German brand
What I thought was weird is he even mentions the a6000 as his first camera during the budget option and you can buy it for $300 but chose the a6400 to show. The a6000 still a great camera that many people still use.
đ
Thought the âbudgetâ options came across as really dismissive verging on a complete afterthought. No real substance to any kind of review of the gear. Donât mind if you carry what could be considered as âexpensive kitâ if itâs what you carry but Iâd avoid the hereâs a âcheapâ option, if itâs just done in a vain attempt to maintain some kind of relatability. The lack of conviction came across loud and clear.
Nothing was really budget about it tbh and its maybe that he can't really relate to making budget choices
Fair comment, the budget options were only there to offer scale, not to help people. The whole video came across as a lazy flex to me. His reasoning for having a ÂŁ5k camera was baseless; he just likes having a ÂŁ5k camera. Genuinely disappointed by this and has me questioning some of his other videos. Glad I didn't watch his apartment tour.
Usually love your content. This feels rushed. You donât look happy, talk at a million miles an hour seemingly to get rid of this soulless video, flicking things around as if you didnât give a damn. Hope youâre okay man.
Yeah, especially when heâs talking about the budget products, heâs so dismissive of them. Like, why bother including them if heâs just going to be so dismissive?
I also agree.Back in the days, when it was just a 2 member team ,his videos were soo much better like he was genuinely happy.Especially his day in a life videos were so fun to watch.I remember I could easily relate to him too but now that hes got this big team, his videos seem to have less of "ALI" and more of whatever script his team wrote.
@@mommyaisha9057 True. I enjoyed his content far better a couple years ago.
Exactly and he seems too arrogant, not the usual Ali we used to watch
Exactly my thoughts! This was the 'budget video' option provided by Aly đ
When the budget options are a regular person's mid to high end options xD
Hey! Long time viewer here. I think for the budget option it wouldâve been nice to genuinely show the best budget option that closely resembles your everyday carry (e.g. the best budget camera backpack or protective tech backpack, etc). It didnât seem like the budget options were actually screened for being good value at that price point. But enjoyed the vid still, keep it up! đđŒ
I paid ÂŁ20 for my laptop bag and it's way better looking and more functional than what he showed. It even has compartments for laptop and tablet so I can carry my tech safely. They didn't even try with the 'budget' option.
@@wintersonnet Exactly. That was just pure laziness and smug condescension on Ali's part.
@@ticklemeelmo73 Yeah the smugness was off-putting.
Because the poors don't matter, unless he wants them to spend $35 for his notebook.
Love your channel and follow your for a long time. A few weeks ago you mentioned to only post very valuable content and I know you only compare to your own standards, but I feel this video was a bit half-arsed. You donât seem to be engaged in the video and only briefly mention the products. Sometimes it feels like you disregard the budget choices. I think this would have been better if you only talked about your own setup and go more into detail on what points to look out for when buying an item of that category.
As much as I love your channel, this video just seems like several product placements with no inspiration. Still your big fan and I'm looking forward for future content :)
Thanks đ
Instead of buying the Ali's notebook, purchase a leuchtturm or Moleskin. The overall quality is much better and reasonably priced.
I feel this video provides little value. The Premium and Luxury picks are just the obvious picks one would find after about five minutes of research. It really feels like he doesnât care about the budget option at all, and just instructed an employee to pick the most popular Amazon product under ÂŁXX. For almost every product category, one would be able to make a better choice by just doing five minutes of research for every category. Overall, this video feels rushed and made in order to have some kind of content, even though it provides little value. You can do better! Hopefully.
He did the video just so he can plug his stationary line. He didn't even try to provide some value have a less obvious transition.
Funfact: â your budget products are out of my budgetâŠâđđ
đđ
I was looking for comments like yours đ
đ„đđđđâ
@Kush S why did you feel the need to show this off?
I feel like the video could be structured differently. When doing a what's in your bag, i feel that you should just focus on what YOU actually use. The budget options are great of course but you could probably name the video to recommending cheaper alternatives to what you used. I just find it so jarring doing a what's in your bag for 3 different bags, 2 of which you definitely didn't use
Itâs hard for me to justify taking a camera in my backpack! The Iphone 13 is great enough
I couldn't even justify taking a laptop and a tablet besides my phone, I don't really get why you would need all three, but hey I'm not a content creator. đ€·
True â đ
@@keshudioo it's not just content creators who need laptops lmfao
@@manaspradhan8041 I haven't said only content creators need a laptop lmfao.
@@keshudioo >I don't need to carry laptops and tabs because I am not a content creator

Note to self: Snatch Ali's bag only when he is carrying the blue bag, not the teal bag.

Watching Ali trying to not act like the budget items were absolute trash đ
When you realize this is a massive sales video :)
yep yep..
For anyone wondering, yes, you can edit videos on a base model M1 MBA (with color grading, effects, transitions, etc.). I used to edit in desktop and now for travel reasons I do it on a M1 MBA. I don't feel I have to limit myself, the laptop handles everything I used to do on my desktop.
I use DaVinci Resolve.
I didnât click this video when it first uploaded. But I clicked it so fast after the thumbnail changed into a more minimal design. I didnât know thumbnail is so important until now.
The cost of things are always relative. Your budget version is premium for some people whereas your premium version is budget for others. Living in Switzerland is something you learn really fast. Budget/ premium, cheap/expensive are words I donât use with people that I am not too familiar with. And no one in the world should think that one needs 5000 USD on a backpack to be productive. We are so privilegedâŠ
agreed
carrying a laptop, tablet, camera etc for everyday is ridiculous. buying a bag which is in the 3 figure range i will never get unless for specific use cases like physical activity
@@yiepie9822 unless you design/creative as your job its totally unnecessary
@@kieranbrown1151 đ
@@yiepie9822 To be fair, he's a CZcamsr/creative so you can expect he'll carry these things. He's not saying that it's what everybody should be carrying, he's just showing 'what's in his bag' for people who are curious or who have a similar lifestyle, which is a pretty common video topic.
Cool video, I just ordered the everyday zip 20L, looking forward to using it for work/travel.
A couple more things Iâd strongly recommend carrying. There are common tools that can really make your life way easier in a pinch. Iâd recommend a multi-tool and a flashlight, as well as a battery bank.
A multi-tool offers a lot of handy options that would be very difficult to find alternatives to in everyday situations or even emergencies. Iâd recommend Leatherman, I have a small pocket/keychain tool from them that I use frequently and I never leave home without it. Cutting loose threads, paper, packaging, trimming plants, removing staples, opening bottles, tightening screwsâŠtrust me, you will use it more often than you think, and youâll be glad you had it with you.
A flashlight is nice because even a smaller/cheaper one is a lot better than your phone and wonât use up your phone battery. Good for checking for items under seats or if youâre out and about at night on a trail or whatever.
Lastly, a battery bank is great. If youâre out for a long time, having a few extra charges device in a convenient package can be super clutch. I used one back in the days of PokĂ©mon Go, lol.
Most of these are used for outdoor activities, but they carry over really well into daily urban life. Make use of your backpack and add in a few extra tools for taking on unexpected tasks!
Only someone like Ali would need *3 BAGS* to make sure heâs always productive! đ€Ł
đâđŒ
He DOESNâT need 3 bags. He has *his* daily carry and then showed cheaper versions plebs like us can afford. đ

I do like the idea of having a desk writing pad. I tried big journals (B4 and A5 sizes), but they're just too big for the desk. I don't feel that I'd benefit much from the style of journal that you sell though. Realistically, BUJO system is the best for me due to flexibility and saving info long-term.
I love how quick these videos are! Love how open you are Ali! Inspired to post my next video đ

I was on a what's in my bag watching streak, this video got served at just the right time. Thanks Ali!
Quick note: budget edition should have been called dobby premium ron and luxury harry, just saying
The Jansport big student bag is a superior bag with more compartments and a larger volume.
Like companies (*cough* Apple *cough*) release "budget" options to make their normal and premium options look better (and less outrageously priced), this hastily thrown together "budget" backpack serves the same purpose, to say "I'm not bougie, look, I'm in touch with the poors too." And of course, to push the stationery line. You can buy a hardbound 400 page 70gsm notebook for under $3-5, but why not get a $25 notebook instead.
I used to value this advise by Ali but this time felt like Ali didn't do full research on the products he mentioned today especially in budget category.

I skipped through the entire video because I didn't feel like I was going to get something from it but RIze seems like a useful thing for me to have. Whenever I watch these videos I always think about what Ali said sometime ago that he will make the video if it has value to atleast one person. I don't know if anyone could get value from the first 12 minutes but the sponser seems like a really useful tool

Thank you for your videos, Ali. I learnt a lot. Like your advice on how I can get back to a productive life: last 18 years I've been busy domestic life with little time for self-improvement. I have to catch up with writing, reading and learning tech to give my life meaning now and to make some money too for independence. It's overwhelming! I was a humanities graduate over 20 years ago. Lovely video! Thank youđ
I'm using the same backpack for over 5 years (probably more like 6-7 years) and its bigger than the Jansport with more pockets, and I found it at $10 in a Walmart hahaha. Although it is about to die now. Lots of rips here and there. But I'm glad it was a well invested $10 I also use this bag when I go do my shopping and grocery so it gets pretty beaten up. I would't pay for a premium bag for my use :) But I always keep a book and my noise cancelling headphones in there.

Premuim - Sony a6400
Luxury - Sony A7iv
I like video when they show alternatives based on budget ahah
Love your background, really beautiful!
I have the laptop Ali has but downloaded Wikipedia English so that I feel that my 1 TB was worth it haha. Luckily, I don't need to hop onto the internet and I can quickly search offline for what I need (not recommended for stuff that is regularly updated !)
Great as usuall bro
i think it would be easier for you if you either put everything side by side and chop chop the audio between the 3 or you picture everything for the low budget then the middle then premium and everything done by the editing... i think you need to let the editor start creating stories for you that you can revise before publishing (even if part of the video revenue goes to him) I believe writers, editor and the presenter are the 3 main youtuber job if someone could do more and better while not sharing the revenue with him he will do 10x the job of any normal video specially he will do super engaging video.... see logan and his editor they are incredible
all of these is my suggestion, hope you start think of it

Usually I love your videos but this video does feel a little rushed and not thought through. I'd much prefer a video going more in depth about YOUR personal carry instead of having 3 different tiers. Also a little weird to have the US prices being a conversion of the UK prices instead of taking it directly from the US site.
Do you have an apartment tour video? I love how you decorated this space.
