This is one of your project's I'm most interested. I'm not really into keeping house plants I just your take on science.
I enjoy indoor and outdoor hydroponics. I started with indoor gardening now Im trying my hand at outdoor gardening. So i do think you're right that people might explore planting in different ways.

I LOVE this. I just started doing semihydro with a ring of fire node. I'm looking forward to updates. I would be interested in buying some 3d printed components and experimenting with full hydro myself.
The setup is awesome, hope the paper towel proves effective.

I currently have no desire to build a hydroponic set up but it is one of my favorite plant youtube sub categories to watch! I think the engineering aspect of it is just too much for me to get into currently.

That's exactly what I was thinking about the mold in the tissue paper.
its been a little over a week since i filmed it. so far no mold but it might take a bit. the seeds have all sprouted and the leaves are kinda trapped in the papertowel, they are starting to push out the top so we shall see. im surprised they could sprout cuz my basement is like 60f
It would be cool to try some hard to root cuttings in this ;)

I purchased some 4 ft barina grow lights and wondered if the ceiling anchors would be sufficient for hanging up in the ceiling? I did put 2 up with those winged toggles but don’t like the nickle size holes they make and wonder if that’s overkill?

What are those black trays that are on the shelves?
That is the actual shelf it's really nice. It has massive thick black plastic trays. In the initial setup video u out 40lbs worth of dumbells in the center and it held up perfectly
