It is sad to see peoples old thoughts and dreams, not to mention their labor rotting away in disrepair like this. I hope someone will buy this place and bring it back to life once again It looks like this place brought many folks happiness and peace back in the day. I’m 63 and many of the dates you read off didn’t seem that long ago to me! I guess we are all just passing through this life anyway. Thanks for sharing this with us all. You have a great dog there.😊
Every thing in this world is passing away it's never to stay on less some one puts there time and energy in it to maintains it -
Glad this popped up on my CZcams suggestions!!
Definitely brought back some memories for this old guy. I worked there as a “truck driver” back about 1965ish. Job was driving the fishermen to one of about 3 or 4 different lakes that had access on old logging roads but was no road access to outside world back then. We had to maintain the roads by hauling gravel in back of pickups and rakes and shovels. Was hard work but it was “a job”
Heavy stuff came over the ice. Fellow named Leo S. owned it then.
Just so many memories from that summer up there.
Thanks for the video.
Gives me such a feeling of melancholy seeing a place that was the site of so much activity and I'm sure fun and laughter sitting so silent and abandoned.
It’s sad really, I’m sure some people have some of the best memories of their lives there
Beautiful video and commentary !
For those born and raised in the north,
there are thousands of these stories and palces.
Dreams that sprang up in the post war era, and really took off when the
Trans Canada hwy was built , especially along Lake Superior, where I was born and raised ,
and Hwy 11 along the flats from Nipigon south.
That melancholy feeling of watching all the hopes and memories fades back into the wilderness ,,,
BC, where I live now, is filled with these as well .
Thanks, it’s crazy how many places like this there are around. The highway camps really took a beating, not sure what changed it but almost like the vacation style and travel changed.
@@darylgilbertoutdoors Several things happened , people changed the hardy folks of the 50's and 60's gave way to the more comfort wanting 70's.
Better vehicles and travel trailers.
Luxury became more common, the meals and accomodation got better and better in the more prosperous camps.
People starting bringing their own boats.
They wanted to eat their own food.
They bought places to have year round.
You saw the flies when you were there, guys would take it back when, but not the kids and wives.
Family travel really took off.
I was a dock boy / swamperat an air service at 11 , got a 1st row seat,
servicing the camps, Good times ,,,
Man you could still live in the main log cabin with a bit of a clean out. What a gorgeous place. Wish I owned it, but the cold is too much for this old bird, now.
I was going to guess the 80's I bet the first places he was in was staff housing. And that is one dang good dog!!
Definitely the staff housing, close to the dock and set up like a barracks really. He is awesome!
Very interesting fish camp. Wonder if 9/11 did it in? I'm originally from the Detroit area & regularly went to Ontario to fish, day trips & extended stays at fish camps. My last trip was just a week before 9/11 & haven't been back since. I'm 73 & doing all of my fishing in Florida now. I sure do miss those Ontario fish camps.
It definitely closed down a bunch of camps and slowed the industry down for sure
Delux outhouse!! That was a respectful tour of this beautiful area. Thanks for taking us along. The water looks really healthy
Thanks, it’s a beautiful lake. Has a really nice waterfall on the one end leaving the lake also
My grandmas sisters house is just like this. In Ryan Village, near Federal Dam and Bena. It’s been boarded up now, I’m glad I had opportunity to visit and walk through.
Always cool seeing old places , like taking a trip back in time!
It would be cool to see it respectfully like he did. I have property near there.
It really gets me how a place like this, at one time this place was a go to place and then boom it's all dead and left behind like no one wants it anymore. Looks like it was more then a Fishing Lodge, looks like they use as Hunting Lodge too.
A blessing and a legacy that should be preserved by the coming generations...so much hard work and dreams going to waste...a shame
Be nice to find out if the owners are interested in selling it…I’ve been looking for a place away from people, for the last few years of my life ❤
@@darylgilbertoutdoors That logging road used to be much better. On the south end is a dam. Was the lake level raised and flooded their access?
Crazy! Lee Anderson from Brainerd was my neighbor growing up. He used to go up there and fish and hunt all those backcountry lakes. And now I do! I’ve literally driven past hear and not known it was there. Kewl video! Thanks!
Beautiful place.
I'm sure it was an awesome lodge, it's still beautiful.
The lawnmower lost the fight with the lawn.
This place is pre internet and amazing reminds me of my childhood we lived in a little log cabin like one of these
If we live long enough, we see the dream come full circle.
@@benwinter2420 There is a massive difference between experience and wishing for something. Most all my wishes have been realized except for one. It will be what my God provides. I don`t believe wishes and destiny are connected, that would be superstition. Good by child.
Guided this area of Rainy Lake/ Lake of the woods etc for many years, beautiful country!
Pretty cool show my friend. Thanks for taking us along. And kudos to you, I kept expecting a horror movie to begin.
Couple cabins look nice enough to move into, pile of wool blankets there, sheets didn't look too bad. Maybe someone is still crashing there .. ? The Ghost of the Lake
Mudbug. Awesome bait! Also good to use as a diver to pull worm or leech harness for walleye
wow what a awesome campI It would be fun to reopen some of these with a little work.
Hard to believe camps like this are just left to rot.
@@darylgilbertoutdoors The owner passed away of Cancer Dec 26, 2010.
The same year of that Mercury Calendar.
now a days its extremely expensive to run and hard to get labour and a small window to make money
look up - growing bananas in solar green house in Saskatchewan - This could be done there.
Been watching you and your wife fishing recently, awesome hope your endeavor in fish lodge goes well
For future reference deer flies & horse flies are active when tempature rises 71°F or above.
Cool place with lots of memories.
I’m sure there’s a ton of the best memories at that place. Would love to hear the stories
That seems like nice enough place I may just go there and finish out my days
If some buildings can stay in good shape for years, it should be easy to live in. ( @49.0031452,-93.3080349,229m/ )
Is that the illusive 10 mm socket ? Lol. I could own 5 of them and never find a one. Cool content! I love the wilderness. It would be awesome to live that dream.
Could be that the hairy man made them abandon it. It’s got that look. Thanks
Where was the water for showers coming from?? Water pipes were put in this site. Way back when??
Would have been a small pump in the lake that would pull into a wateroom with a pressure tank, filters, etc. usually poly lines just on the ground going cabin to cabin
My guess is likely early 2000's they stopped operating, some of the buildings upkeep was being neglected prior to that. The generator should of been upgraded in the 90's but other things like the stove and some of those cabins were newer, vinyl window I believe on the South cabin. What a difference those metal roofs make compared to shingles and rolled roofing. A shame the title didn't pass to another operator 20 years ago.
It would have cool to see if there's fish still three. Guys might fly in with gill nets to bring to market.
@@darylgilbertoutdoors I remember going to Eagle back in the day of 30 inch legal muskie, but walleye is a must for shore lunch. Going up we saw lots of signs for resorts but everyone seemed to go to the big water Lac Suel, must be about 4 big lakes and they bring the big mounts to the sports shows and smaller operators couldn't finance marketing. Cool looking place like it was frozen in time.
The first brochure you picked up had a picture in it of that big fireplace at the beginning @18:21
Hasn’t been abandoned for too long. On the one kitchen counter was a 2010 Mercury calendar
Yea, not sure an exact date when it closed, but it shows it doesn't take long for things to fall apart back in the woods without proper maintenance and upkeep.
There's definitely signs of some people living in there not too long ago
The first cabin he went in had a pair of shoes, some clothes folded up in the corner and a journal on the dresser with a pen
56:45 I’m guessing the wind blew that window in. Looks like it fell straight onto that table and shattered.
Some of them are abandoned due to WHAT lives in the Woods around them. Folks were chased out of many spots by SABAE ( Sasquatch ). SABAE is Well known today all over USA and many other places. Canada, BC, USA We are Loaded w them. Loaded...
That’s exactly the reason why this place closed down how did you know
It wouldn't take to much money to get thst place up and running again so many different versions of power now solar panels radiant hot water heaters 😊
Man how did they get all that stuff in there by boat or plane or is there roads we're u can drive into this place imagine how big of a pain in da butt it must've been ? Lots of leg work for sure must've had a small army of helpers to assist with all the heavy lifting of things bet this place was super cool in its hay day hustling & bustling
This one had boat access and some small old logging road to get the most of the stuff in
What a mess . Someone should clean this up
Probably will never happen, I’d rather see someone fix it up and turn it back operational
My old motor needs that exact lower unit!!
@@darylgilbertoutdoors just kills me I need it and down here can't find one, up there they are laying around!!! LOL 😆🤣😂
Such a shame that these places just left to rot and some big abandoned houses too. With so many homeless people nowadays we could do with somebody to renovate and help others to have a roof over their heads. Could be used as temporary homes, then repurpose as a fishing lodge again.
Pretty sure the fire place in the brochure at 18:33 is the same one you walked by at the start of the video
wow man threre is a baby big foot laying on the driver side of that old truck
Guess the place closed when the owner passed heres the first line of the obituary.... Glen Treflin, age 59 of Fort Frances, Ontario passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario after a long battle with cancer. Guess his wife either didnt have the means or the desire to continue the camp after he passed.
Sad it probably is a family dispute. Some probably want to sell and the others don't.
Enjoyed the vid. Was quite a place in its time. You read and annunciate very well and must have gotten some good schooling.
Thanks, I would have loved to see the place when it was originally built. I’m sure it was an amazing place
Was it closed and not allowed to be used for fishing adventures because of mercury in the lake?
Not here no, there’s a few other places like that though north of this one a few hours
I would love to buy a place like this and live there with my cat and puppy
If some buildings can stay in good shape for years, it looks like it would be easy to live in. ( @49.0031452,-93.3080349,229m/ )
i dont know how you can stand those flies, would be driving me beyond crazy
They were bad walking in but weren’t too bad once exploring around. They can get annoying though
Somebody had a bunch of money and energy. Took it all up to a gorgeous natural wilderness. Made a fish camp. Filled it with stuff. Ran it for years. And then, either ran out of money, or lost their health or died, or all of these things happened. And then it all falls to ruin, full of memories and junk. If nothing else it is a comfort to see Mother Nature gradually taking it all back again.
I looked this up on a map, Holy cow, talking about BFE. You'd need a sea plane to get there.
@coin.guy8411 = If the last part of the road is passable, it's 25 miles off the nearest paved road.
Did u c the microwave on the shelf?
Microwaves have existed for a long time...I remember having one as a kid in 1983
@someguy9778 since 1974,my grandmother had one with a twist dial with a timer ,,we got it,and I was cooking a hamburger, went outside, dial has a timer, got jammed, cooked the burger till it stunk the house up,and shriveled a 1/4 lb burger to the size of a golf ball!
Ontario has so many of these 'dream' camps in various states of disrepair. You can get one for a steal, btw.
(They're more work & stress than they ever imagined).
Oh yea people don’t understand the work that needs and can be done everyday at these places
is it on a good fishing lake .
Bass , small lake trout, average pike , some walleye nearby, and Muskie. But really nothing too special
@@bretwade1250 based on the map he looked at in the big cabin it seems to be at 49.00317825961835, -93.30671034600132
Where is this and can it be bought.
Northwestern Ontario, I don’t believe it’s for sale unless something changed
It’s a shame to see it not being used for something good. Wish as a church/ youth camp. A not profit thing.
Where abouts is the lodge...
@@RodMac1 Thanks that was easy enough. I don't understand why he wouldn't answer
Looks like the guy that lives there was waiting for you to leave. He's down by the water at 54:11
Either that or he was your boat ride
@@kbcustoms3571 brought someone along with me to have a look who didn’t want to be in the video
is at 54:14 if anyone is looking. If passable, the road in, is 25 miles length from the closest paved rd.
My guess is that 9-11 killed it. I stopped going to Canada after 9-11. Just wasn't worth the trouble
Wow. My aunt and uncle owned this camp back in the 80’s. Seeing this video just brought back so many memories. This is awesome.
This is so crazy and emotional to watch. Haven’t been there since the 90s right before they sold it.
We just watched the tape of the fishing show they did there not to long ago
It’s sad what happened to the place for sure
I went there a number of times in the80’s. Good memories. Sad it went to waste.
For sure
