  • We finish the first wing rib on our Hatz Classic build! This is the very first completed part for our project plane; one of 32 "ribs" that make up the substructure of the four biplane wings. The ribs and spars are all made of aircraft-grade sitka spruce wood, held together by plywood gussets and structural epoxy. This method of construction is lightweight and strong!
Hope you are enjoying these videos, which are a bit different than our usual adventure vlogs. We hope watching this series will inspire you to learn more about building an aircraft from scratch, and perhaps give you a boost to start your own project.

In the 50s my dad decided to build a home built plane. In the basement he was cutting a sawing tiny pieces of wood such as in the video. Using weldwood glue that was a powder and teeny tiny tacks so small they were almost impossible to pick up. I decided I was never going to fly with dad on this flim flam contraption. Dad gave up and bought a 46 Taylorcraft BC12D that he flew till is passing in 1974. I did fly with him in the Tcraft.

Haven’t decided yet...but we’d really like to use a 9 cylinder Verner Radial! If not that it will be an O320.

The family must not have the creds to manage this channel think they update the channel so viewers know what happened to them. That's why I left a list of passwords printed in a safety deposit box so my family can manage my social media accounts.
