The fact Kenedy is still on Disneys payroll is mind-boggling.
If all you do is spend time on the Internet.
Big facts
@@vorsyeor the constant misses and project cancellations 🤷🏾♂️
if only we can all fail upwards like that
She has to know where the bodies are buried...
It feels like Kathleen Kennedy always has “just one year left on her contract.” 😂
We can only hope. *fingers crossed*
It definitely feels like the contract that will never end.
She got a contract renewal during COVID, that Grace didn't talk much about. Blaming her personally has always backfired because, I think she says Disney would be giving in to women-haters.
@@Kraziken0time passes slower when you’re not having fun
It’s the black magic effect from her deal with satan, don’t doubt it.
Who agreed on a budget of 300 millions for Indiana Jones ?!!!!!!! That is insanity
It was reported in Deadline a couple hours ago it was 329m excluding marketing lol
Agreed 100%. Even Infinity War cost less at $325 million.
It started shooting in June 2021 with an almost 80 years old man as the main star, so Covid protocols must have been insane. A lot of films and shows filmed during the pandemic had their budgets skyrocketed
It had to be reset because of covid
Right...? Trying to figure out did it get to the actual people doing the effects and sets or what, they had no motivation on this shit at all...execs absorbed all that 🍰😅
HOW did they let the budget for Indiana Jones get that big?? It’s absolutely ridiculous.
Covid protocols most likely made things more difficult. Also, I think Harrison Ford got injured twice on the set. So they had to halt production until he got better.
CRONYISM / THEFT
Re-shoots too.
Movies are getting crazy expensive!! This is a brutal wake up call to all studios allowing movie budgets to skyrocket like this.
No movie should cost north of 200MDD. This is so irresponsible
300 is a lot!
I honestly believe that people didn’t take to this Indiana Jones because there’s no joy in it. In the earlier installments of the Jones saga Indie is having fun being an archeologist and saving the day. In this movie he’s depressed and lethargic and hates his life and doesn’t want to be there. It’s depressing and sad. And no one wants to see a depressing and sad Indiana Jones movie
Myself honestly don't plan to see it, just because I don't find appealing watch grampa grumpy and his adventures, for that I'll just wait for MI, more entertaining to watch Tom cruise
Sounds like the only performance Ford is willing to give the last decade
@@nemesisjrrrn not grandpa grumpy 😂
@mackhopkins2087 maybe not grumpy, but really is not very appealing a movie with a very very old guy as the protagonist.
Then of course a young brunette self-insert of Kennedy swoops in to upstage and take over. Probably how Kennedy sees herself with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
After seeing Ke Huy Quan in Everthing Everywhere All at once, they could have used in in Dial of Destiny, along with cameos from all the original first 3 movies as a send off for Indiana. Having Short Round grown up with he and Indy on a final adventure would have been amazing!
a buddy adventure comedy movie with indy and short round would have been an amazing call back to concluyde the story and box office gold! how did that get past anyone coming up with the plot of this movie?
And short round would be doing all the action etc as Indie guiding him.
Plus…they could have had a legit spin off opportunity for all those representation obessed Hollywood people that no one would have questioned. It would have been easy. Like how much legend and lore is in China?? This would have been soooo easy. And its so obvious.
This is a great idea! They could have shown Short Round became an archeologist professor inspired by Indiana Jones & show Indy a bit more enthusiastic. Saw IJ5 & it wasn't the worst movie but it was very plain. The first 15 minutes were classic Indiana Jones but the rest of the movie was plain, scenes were too long, & a bit boring at times. They could have shown the whole time traveling earlier in the film to create tension & Indy trying to save the past by preventing the villain from doing what he wanted to alter history. I give the movie a C+ movie rating.
Shocked this didn't happen.
Kathleen Kennedy has really got to go. She makes executive decisions based upon what she likes personally, not what fans like. And that's a terrible way to run an entertainment company.
Your onto something. However, Kevin also makes decisions based upon what he likes personally. The difference is that Kevin is a fan of the material he is producing, and Kathleen is not. So Kevin is making decisions as a fan of the material in the spirit of the fan base of the material. There is alignment with Kevin and the fans because he is one of us. Kathleen is just a suit.
She did the same thing with Indy as they did with Luke Skywalker. 2 of the most famous fictional characters ever and they reduced them to old depressed men.
What a waste.
The only reason those films reached 1 billion because we had no idea what she was doing. Now we know very well what she's up to and until she's gone, her movies will continue to bomb.
💯
How many time does Kennedy need to fail before Disney will fire her, it’s insane
Kennedy's handling of Lucasfilm has epitomised insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Great video!!
Or maybe she wasn't expecting different results. This is exactly what she wanted.
She needs to be fired Now.She is the worst Producer in Hollywood.

Vaas has entered the chat*
I agree that Kennedy did make sense on paper at the start.
But after TLJ's fan reception, followed by Solo actually losing money . . . she should have been given a semi-dignified exit at that point.
To be fair, Solo had to reshoot a good portion of the movie since the original directors already shot alot of the movie. Ron Howard had to reshoot large sections of the movie. So basically, they were making two movies and hoping it would produce enough money to pay everything off. I think that it cost Disney/Lucasfilm $76 million dollars when it was all said and done. It wasn't a huge mess up considering.
But the last jedi still made a billion dollars, and so did the rise of skywalker.. which probably made solo look like a blip.. and could easily be attributed to not having a strong female lead, if she's fast on her feet.... but shareholders only care about their returns.. they aren't interested in fan reaction.. let's be real..
@@Ma55ey But why did the Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker only made 50 % of what TFA did ?. Star wars "WAS" the biggest brand at the time. Saying Ohhh well it made a "Billion" dollars when it was 50 % down from the previous on ?????.
@@darkeraz4572 don't know, I don't really care to be completely honest with you.. but most movies don't male 1 billion let alone 2.. maybe she's been in thin ice for a while. I think part of the problem with letting Kennedy finish out her contract is that she keeps announcing new projects that may or not ever see the light of day, which just makes Lucasfilm look worse. She can still do a lot of damage in her continuing desperate efforts to right the ship.
She permanently damaged the brand, ain’t nothing worse than that
Someone needs to make a Kathleen Kennedy documentary called " Failing Upwards" it's like one of the eighth wonders of the world on how this woman was able to keep her job all these years🤦♂️
One could argue that The Force Awakens, Rogue One, The Last Jedi and The Mandalorian were financially successful enough to give her some breathing room. I think the problem is success of those projects was fueled mostly by nostalgia and failed to bring a new generation of fans onboard. Older fans are cynical and young fans are indifferent.
@@Blizofoz45 be real The Force Awakens comes of a 10 year brake. Everyone was excited. see the trend box office trend for the next 2 films. 50 % of the audience was and only mad half of what TFA did. @Blizofoz45 she wasn't involved with Mando. That's like taking credit for bees or oxygen. Just because it happened nearby you doesn't mean it happened because of you. Also as for the movies the box office was on a downward trend for them since Force Awakens.
@@kityhawk2000 I'm not defending that lady at all. But Disney will take her successes into account whether she deserves any credit or not.

I would love to see a Movie Math Kathleen Kennedy special. "How much money did she lose Disney" is a good title for the special.......
Nah
A HOW MUCH DID BOB IGOR COST DISNEY episode
Spielberg once commented that Kennedy was never very good at doing what she was assigned to do, but she was excellent at interrupting people mid-sentence. Nothing has changed.
@johnhaladay5541 That does not explain why they hired her? Everyone else gets there through merit.
Lucas and Spielberg hand picked her to take over. They knew her agenda.
You kinda edited what he said. He said she was good at interrupting people with ideas. She wasn't a good secretary, but she was good with ideas which is why she was made a producer.
I think you let KK go for perception alone. The fan base is so toxic towards her it would be a good first step letting the base know that Iger hears them and is making changes. If she survives another year the fans, including me, will be done forever. She is is just so bad. It’s almost like she is destroying everything on purpose.
To be fair, she seems to be really toxic towards the fans, too. Arguably first.
I honestly think she'd be much happier going back to producing other stuff given the toxic behaviour and attitude I see from (mostly men) online, running Lucasfilm feels like the most thankless job in Hollywood.
@@chazharris Remember when KK said she doesn't owe the fans anything, and then they turned on her? Of course you don't. Simps don't have a short memory; they have no memory.
@@williamking256 Quote her properly, because she's right:
"I don't feel that I have a responsibility to cater in some way [to those particular fans]," Kennedy told the New York Times in an interview. "I would never just seize on saying, 'Well, this is a franchise that's appealed primarily to men for many, many years, and therefore I owe men something."
The general audiences care about a good story and barely think about KK like we do.
I don't think people were clamoring for a new Indy movie. They should have made a new movie with new leads.
The worst thing kennedy did was lean into dividing the fanbase. She and her subordinates are openly antagonistic towards half of their potential customers. At one point after the last jedi, they floated the narrative that their critics were Russian bots. It was insane.
It’s not all Kennedy’s fault. The knuckle-dragging, regressive side of the fanbase was already looking for a fight. Both sides have needlessly antagonized each other.
She didn’t divide the Fanbase CZcams did.
@@keefriff99 Its not needless if the content is crap for which the sequel trilogy is. So therefore it is NOT Star Wars canon. The fans have decided that. And what is the old saying after films release.."it now belongs to the audience"
@Dr.LongMonkey no. I've lived through both the prequel and sequel eras. Lucas never started name calling anyone in the fanbase for not liking the prequels. Kennedy and Disney's friends in the media used current political events as a means to attack anyone that didn't like their movie about space wizards. Other studios followed bc she made a billion 3 times. What you're seeing now is the results of that very short sighted plan. If you adjust for inflation, they have lost 1/2 of ticket buyers. This indiana jones movie is about to lose 75% of Krystal Skull's actual viewers.
@@Dr.LongMonkey When did she say that?
The amazing thing is both the bookstores and Comic shops are absolutely loaded with great story ideas for Lucas’ characters….
There is a huge Legacy Cannon universe they could have pulled from. Taking those stories also means less writing. Some of the best Marvel movies are just graphic novels or origin stories taken from the pages of Comics.
But they decided to throw it all away.
Remember KK said there was no source material to draw from 😢
Did disney really think Indiana Jones would really recoup its $300 mil budget?
I’m seeing so many people come up with so many damn excuses for Disney flops but then when it’s other studios, no one has any problem calling it a flop. Sometimes people even egg the haters on. Dial of Destiny is performing on the level of The Flash yet this one is “not that bad”???? What?!
So damn true.
Wonderful news. I parted ways with Star Wars after 2017, Kennedy getting the boot might pique my interest in the franchise again.
Kk obviously hated Lucas and Spielberg, using their franchises to degrade and humiliate them by inserting a stand in of herself.

Kathleen Kennedy is the walking definition of it's who you know not what you know 😐🤨 For someone to be so hateful to a fan base that she leaves Star Wars in a bad situation and to let the budget for Indy 5 go over $320 mill and still keep her job.....mind blowing. I wonder if Iger is sat in his office thinking....hmmmm Back to the Future is a beloved franchise so let's get Kennedy right on to that remake
Fortunately BTTF is a Universal IP, and Zemeckis has made it clear that he will NEVER allow a BTTF remake.
Never say never
@@bangslamwham88never say neverrr
I am guessing she must have a boatload of blackmail material because she would have been fired years ago
KK is a clear example of rising up to one's level of incompetence. There is no more IPs in Lucasfilm that has not suffered any permanent damage in some way. Turning family entertainment franchises that brought awe and joy to families across generations together to now arousing disappointment, division disenchantment, disgust and finally indifferrence is an achievement in some way. It illustrates a case study of what not to do for future studio bosses and brand managers. Now the hurt long inflicted on fans is expanding to Disney shareholders.
@fodder0279 I agree, but those Star Wars films made money. And at the end of the day, this doesn't get fixed if fans keep buying tickets and going to see this stuff. They (not my view), view it as a success because it continues to make money. We'll see with Indiana Jones. The moment I saw her name as producer, I did not go to see it. She did not get to her position through merit.
@@requiemheidireprisal7824those new Star Wars films (especially the first) were going to make money regardless of who produced them just because of the name alone. You can see the goodwill fade by how each Star Wars film made less money than the previous. By rise of skywalker everyone was pretty much wise to the act.
Um…Sound of Freedom is out next week on July 4th as well.
Why isn’t that one included in the “next week coming soon” attribution list?
One can only wonder why…
Why she would make a comment against SW fans yet craft a sequel trilogy aimed directly at them is behind me
Syndical ploy to get the audience of old fans and then screw them over
I recall she made Rogue One to cost double because she ordered reshoots. In the original Jyn Erso survived. By Killing Jyn Erso, they made the first Disney princess to die in a nuclear strike. And they sold Jyn Erso dolls. Probably someone thought that the dream of little girls in life was to play dying due to nuclear strike instead of playing being an astronaut or a cowboy.
Double cost does not sound like the financially saavy person. And definitely not the creative lore expert either.
She's destroying franchises with one movie at a time. With star wars she got away with it because they made money.
They made money because folks had blind faith, that is gone Solo lost money.
Studios still haven’t understood that we can’t afford to go to the movies every weekend

The theaters get a good cut too, it doesn't all go towards the production company- plus there's advertising costs
The movie wasn't bad. But there was a dark sadness to it. And an element of Indy abuse that was hard to watch. Unless it's massively popular, people skip the theaters most times. People just can't afford the theater experience and with the glut of entertainment one can find...skipping a film is not hard for most these days.
Abuse of the star of the show = a movie movie that fans (~70% of would-be goers) don’t wanna spend time and cash to see. And they KNEW it was gonna be like that.

The deal is that she has been in Hollywood for decades. She knows where skeletons are buried, and could take people down with her if anything is ever done to her.
She is a female executive for a popular brand so she gets more hate from fans than Weinstein. She's had some hits, she's had some dumpster fires. 300 Mil for a dead franchise is insanity, though
The weird thing is that George Lucas made Kennedy's hire as Head of Lucasfilm as a condition of his sale to Disney.I guess she'll fail upwards and get some new role.
They should have said to Lucas, you've got nothing in the can, either lower your price or start making something we can produce and get returns from in a couple years.
Indiana Jones doesn’t have the pull with the younger audiences that Disney wish it had.
To be honest I'm completely done with Lucasfilm. I thought about going to see Indy, a character who I adore but I remember what Lucasfilm has done and said and have decided to wait and watch it for free. I will be supporting Mission impossible and really enjoyed across the spiderverse.

There's this certain "rule" I encountered in writing class called the "PIG rule" ("Perfection = Innovation + Greatness"), and I could see how much it applies even in film. For anything to succeed, it should be done either in a surprising new way (ex., the Spider-Verse animated films) or excel in the aspect it's retreading (ex. the first John Wick film). None of the flops noted are, arguably, good or innovative, and thus fall pretty far from perfection.
How can someone have worked with the best filmmakers of the last few decades and not picked up anything? It boggles the mind.

Though people seem content with the ending of _Guardians 3_ which had uncounted multitudes die tragically. Something else is not happening.

Elemental will 100% make more than Lightyear. It's aiming for at least 130M domestic and 350M WW (could probably go into the 400M range) That won't make it profitable, but still. (It still has to open in the UK, Spain and Japan and a few smaller markets. This week it increased in several markets like SK and Germany and barely dropped in the rest) So it has very good WOM, which goes a long way in restoring the Pixar brand.
I totally agree with you! It’s a slow burn and I still plan to watch it myself in theatres.

As for Elemental, once upon a time people would see a Pixar film simply because it was a Pixar film, quality was a given. these last few years, not so much
Maybe if Disney didn't put Pixar films like Soul, Luca, and Turning Red on Disney+ for streaming instead of waiting for covid portacals to relax like Tom Gun Maverick, people might look at those films as 🎥 instead of streaming.

I think and I'm feeling that 2023 has SO MANY good movies that I can't go to all of them. I have a feeling Studios held movies and a throwing them all into 2023 hurting each other. Some of these movies underperforming are VERY good movies. I just can't afford to go see them all. And as a HUGE Superhero fan, I myself am feeling fatigue both on DC and Marvel.
I've seen 29 different movies so far this year, and only a few were great. I saw _Air_ and _Across the Spider-Verse_ twice. _The Little Mermaid_ put me in a good mood, inspiring me to listen to Disney songs for a week. _Avatar_ and _Mario_ were spectacles though I missed the latter. I think that Kathleen Kennedy demonstrates that studio heads absolutely must have a guiding vision for what they want a property to be.
Then again, I know that I would've done some World War II Indy movies in the '90s when Harrison Ford was at the top of the box office and finished it off in 2008 with something like Crystal Skull. Depressed old Indy certainly deflated my interest in Dial of Destiny, and I think that would have been leaked by early screenings anyway.

Indiana Jones’s situation is actually very close to No Time To Die which also had very similar opening, budget and audience. But the problem is, NTTD was extremely huge overseas despite pandemic, grossed $613M just internationally. Also critics and audience scores were higher. So considering three big movies are coming and Indy hasn’t just attracted audiences at all, it’s big failure for Disney.
And they both had Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Super random! But in regard to Joy Ride, they did promo this past week on Despierta America. (Essentially, Univision's Good Morning America.) I'd never seen Asians actors as guests on the show before. (They often use dubbed press junket footage for most films or focus on Spanish speaking cast members.) It was fascinating and wonderful to see a film branch out a bit more to promote their films to a wider audience.

Once upon a time George Lucas consulted with a scholar Joseph Campbell, who had written in 1949 a book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and George Lucas faithfully implemented many of the ideas of this book in his Star Wars movies. George Lucas even had Bill Moyers film five interviews for Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth at Lucas Ranch, to communicate to the general public Campbell's ideas as Campbell neared the end of his life. But for whatever reason, George Lucas did not implement any of what Campbell said at the end of the book, the very point of the book: The hero's real purpose is to resolve some apparently intractable duality and go back to the hero's people to communicate this resolution, for the community to either accept or reject. No one, not George Lucas, not anyone, has any plan to resolve Star Wars intractable duality between the different powers of the Force, for that would I suppose mean the end of the franchise.
What is going on at the box office? It feels like flop after flop. Is the global box office down in general or is the market just over saturated? Why are studios putting their movies in a bloodbath while we’re in the writers strike? There’s gonna be a huge lul in film releases soon! Just wait! People will be begging for material that isn’t written by AI or a scab intern very soon!
Is it just streaming taking over? Are we heading to a recession and people have less disposable income? All of the above? Idk.
Grace has railed against NYC theaters not providing a better experience of comfort, crowd control, and cleanliness. If they can't get new repeat business, then I think their alternative is to raise prices on their regulars and hope they don't go elsewhere.
It's amazing how one person has done so much damage, for so long and has got away with it.
No, it’s a full team of people that’s doing it too that follow her and more
I can't believe KK has been around so long. Lucasfilm could have been turned around and saved from so much irreparable harm.
Been waiting for these Indy numbers all week! Thanks Grace❤
The thumbnail picture of Steven Spielberg holding a coffee cup, with Kennedy is both hilarious and eye opener to me. Perhaps she did well all those years with Spielberg was because she could make a good cup of coffee for the boss!!!
Feels like a massive portion of the industry just can’t do numbers right now.
Iger needs to put a hold on all Star Wars until Kathleen Kennedy leaves so nothing else gets ruined and the new head can decide what to do with the shows and movies
When you’ve lost a billion dollars in movies, and then lose Indiana Jones on top of that, I would fire her as a peace offering to the fans.
It's 110-118 degrees here in Vegas, so I'm guessing the top-tiered theaters will be completely full.
I have been a fan of Kennedy's since the 80's, and have defended her up until a few years ago. But with this film (which, I admit, I enjoyed, with some caveats), I now am having SERIOUS doubts about her. This franchise, which is one of her first big successes, should be a no-brainer slamdunk success at this point.
