COP-27 | Uganda-Tanzania oil pipeline defended despite environmental concerns: Elison Karuhanga

  • A $5bn oil pipeline project between Uganda and Tanzania has sparked a major climate and environmental uproar. The mega-project has met strong opposition from rights activists and environmental groups. They say it threatens the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people and fragile ecosystems in the region. Ugandan and Tanzanian governments have dismissed these concerns, saying the pipeline was necessary to turbo-charge their economies. Elison Karuhanga, Member of Uganda's Chamber of Mines and Petroleum joins us.

      Coz Uganda - being a country that can't fend for herself - has made arrangements with Total Energies and other multinational banks to finance this project. Remember he who pays the piper calls the tune.

      This project will cause a reduction in export on Eu's sides since East Africa will be independent and will add competition in the oil business thus booming of the Economies of the East African countries, which they don't what to see.

    The fact that collective west in the name of environment and human rights means thst this project is worth persuing. Go Ugsnda. Go Tanzania
