    but the front axle on jackstands and use your floor jack and jack your driver size up directly under your coil spring and it'll take the pressure off those control arms! you need to do that anyway or your coil spring will fly out and if you're in the way its dangerous. good work though buddy! you're killin it!

  • @davidmelton9162
    @davidmelton9162 Před 6 lety

    The bolt is seized to the rubber bushing, heat the arm with a torch around the bushing to soften it and if necessary burn the bushing out completely. I have to do it all the time at work. Keep up the great content!!!

  • @kalaehina814
    @kalaehina814 Před 6 lety

    I did my 96 control arms, the lower one will push the axle forward centered in the wheel well. I wouldn't say it was the most fun job I did on my truck. I had a hard time removing bolts as well, I finally disconnected both sides of the axle and it seemed to help. I also put the tire back on and used a 5 foot iron pry bar/digging pole to push on the tire to force the axle forward so I could install the new control arms. Remember control arms center front to back, you need to modify the track bar if you want it to be centered left to right under the truck. Good luck bud you'll get it done!

  • @carterthomas3769
    @carterthomas3769 Před 6 lety +1

    In case you ever run into a similar issue, take the nut and thread it onto the end of the bolt. Then you can hit it without damaging threads. Congratulations on one year man!

    Went through the same exact thing on my 12v. Threw new bent upper and lower DOR on. The bolts were frozen solid to the rubber bushings. Didn't have a torch to put heat to it so I had to break out the saw. Took longer than expected but was definitely worth it. Keep up the great videos man!

  • @dat_braz1723
    @dat_braz1723 Před 6 lety

    Man I understand your pain, I have a '97 12v as well and one of the first mods I was wanting to do to it was to mess around with the AFC housing. It took me three and a half to four hours trying to get one bolt out but I couldn't get it. I eventually put the other three back on and waited to save up enough for the proper tools. You do great videos man and I love your content, just be patient, you can do it man!

    Ball joint press works perfectly for taking out bolts like that.
    You can get them from parts stores.

  • @vintagespeed
    @vintagespeed Před 6 lety

    on a 5 link suspension (4 CAs + 1TB) you should only change one CA at a time, unless you pull the coils. the axle is going to rotate/twist when you remove an CA and your problem will compound if you remove both on one side. the TB is trying to keep the axle centered left/right and the springs are making the axle roll along is axis. if you had pulled the other side loose you'd be picking up coil springs and broken brake lines... it's not hard, but it takes some work, one CA at a time, one jack to maintain pinion angle so it doesn't roll on you and a set of stands under the axle tubes to keep the axle from moving fore/aft. TB = trackbar, CA = control arm.

    I put thuren 2 inch coils on my 96 and decided to do the extended control arms as well. I was able to get 5 of the bolts out but had to cut the two camber bolts out and torch one bolt out. The one that I had to torch out was the drivers side upper bolt at the frame. What a pain in the ass it was. As soon as I saw you pull that control arm out of the box I knew you were gonna have problems.

  • @projectneverstop7186
    @projectneverstop7186 Před 6 lety

    If you have the Jack in the axle pushing up it will put pressure on the bolts and they won't slide out easily and you can use wood in-between your hammer and the bolt and it won't mess up the threads.

    If you use brass to make contact with the bolt as you hit it you won't scar up the threads because brass is softer than metal. They make brass hammers and punches, etc.

  • @LocknLoad1360
    @LocknLoad1360 Před 6 lety

    So that bolt goes through a bushing. The bushing has a steel or aluminum sleeve which oxidizes itself right to the bolt. The bolt is most likely going to have to get cut.

    Get you an air chisel with a hammer insert to hammer it out, fairly inexpensive from farm supply or tool discount store for a low end one. Would come in handy for many situations but especially when doing suspension work, just got one for myself :)

    Hey this is Chris from New York I have a 97 Dodge Ram 2500 series with a Dana 60 axle I recently snapped the front axle plowing I replace the axle the only way I was able to get those control arms off efficiently without wasting cons of time because it was so rusted in the bushing was to torch the bolts off they were just seized in there from day 1 there's a bushing in the inside and a sleeve that goes around the bolt and it's definitely Rusty welded together lol PS when I bought new bolts I put a little anti seize on them before putting them in LML I have all kinds of air impact guns none of them did anything and a three-quarter breaker bar didn't help much either so I torch them off
