Speaking of the balance between style and substance, Bumbles' channel probably has the best blend between quality of videos and frequency of release I've ever seen. Every one has plenty of great jokes, are well-edited, and are written to be engaging enough to hold my attention the whole way through even on subject matter I'm unfamiliar with, due in no small part to Jack's wide range of energetic delivery. And when you've hit the end and are listening to that catchy outro, you can be satisfied knowing that it'll probably just be a couple weeks until he's put out something new for you to enjoy! So glad I found his channel.
this fucking game, i've finally fucking found this game. i used to watch my uncle play games when i was a kid, and specifically he'd play some of the most obscure ass ps2 games i've ever seen. this one particular game he played a few times before selling it to buy his next obscure game and for some reason it just really stuck with me. and for age's i've been trying to find out what in god's name the game was and all i could remember was edgy ps2 game with guns involved and i could never find it. But now thanks to my lord and saviour, Bumbles McFumbles, i've finally found it. this is like 20 years worth of anxiety trying to find this damn thing finally lifted off me.
As a note for anyone thinking about playing this for yourself, there is an error in Bumbles video. The game does have auto fire. In the settings on the main menu there's a setting called RAPID. Turn that on and your hand will thank you. Anyway, love your content Bumbles. I rewatch episodes literally daily. Keep up the amazing work and can't wait for the next one :>
I always get annoyed whenever a game I've played gets called "the best game I've never played" but I'm not sure whether I'm mad because I don't think it's that obscure or because it serves as a deep reminder that most people aren't into what I'm into.
I fear the day this happens to me with OnRush If you don't know what game I'm referring to, that is exactly my point. At least I remember seeing this one displayed on occasion
Honestly I just wish ninja shadow of darkness (yes, that's the name) would get mentioned once. Its platforming-focused arcadey bits were ass but it's a good game otherwise I swear!
It's honestly wild learning that this started out a game! I was always under the impression that is was another part of the 90s Anime Canon, exclusively.
Wait, so you're telling me there's a shooting game where I can just plant myself in the middle of a room and let myself get shot at instead of panicking like a little sissy baby trying to look for cover and ragequitting when I continuously die as a result? Why was I not aware of this 20 years ago?! Was this game made specifically for me? Edit: "Yeah, I said it- fuck you, east" made me burst out laughing harder than anything else all week.
Jump-shooting is such a power in Gungrave and Overdose. Also Balladbird Lee was the first one that killed me. And much like Asura's Wrath, I seem to have lucked into a good strategy for playing the system. I usually had enough Demolition Shots in the later levels.
I found your channel a little over a week ago after your Altered Beasts video was suggested to me. Since then I've been watching all of your videos, usually in the background while I'm working. My dude, you are an extremely funny guy and I'm so glad your stuff was recommended. The joke with Arbok back in the Household Pokémon video is easily one of my favorite jokes of yours
I've heard that the developer's intent with the simplistic, pick up and play, and short nature of the game was to try and appeal to the busy working Japanese man who just got home from the office and just wants something quick and easy to relax with without requiring too much effort. They felt that games were getting more and more advanced and complex, so they wanted to return to a more simple arcadey style of game to appeal to said overworked businessman types.
My favorite part of watching this vid is how the automatic captions try to caption the title of the game. My personal favorite “name” for it made was “gun grape”
As someone who watched the anime first, seeing this game, and knowing it came out before the anime, is surreal. The game and the anime seem to have completely different tones, but somehow it still works? Game looks fun too.
@@carso1500 From what I remember, first episode cold opens into game-accurate action madness. The rest is high-class serious gangster drama that takes its time to introduce the crazy back in (and even then it's not over the top and fits tonally). Starting people off with the second episode ensured that they wouldn't get hit with the whiplash or if they weren't doing the three-episode rule, outright quit early and miss out on a good anime. And it just flows better, especially if one is unfamiliar with the game (and pretty much everyone was back then).
i’m honestly really glad that this is how i’ve learned about this series edit: i have since dove headfirst into gungrave, and can happily say that i love it. i don’t know if you’ll read this, jack, but thank you for sharing this absolutely batshit insane series with us all.
So I've been playing Gungrave G.O.R.E. recently and I played most of the second game. Thoughts; Overdose is fun for what it is, and the length didn't bother me too much, but what REALLY bugged me is how damn *hard* it is. Seriously, if you ever make a followup to this video on Overdose, PLAY ON EASY. I played on normal and it was *hellish* after the midpoint. It wasn't even a fun kind of difficult, it was just frustrating. There's a reason I played 'most of' it and not the whole thing. G.O.R.E. on the other hand is what Overdose SHOULD have been. Tighter controls, faster movement without being blinding, a good middle ground between Gungrave's mindless power fantasy and Overdose's crushing difficulty(it can be challenging but only starts getting truly challenging in the last like eight stages out of 31), and by the time G.O.R.E. starts getting difficult you've gotten your hands on multiple different Demolition Shots, combos and stat upgrades, because yes, the game has an upgrade system using DNA points you get at the end of a stage. So it getting difficult is basically going "alright, you have all this gear, now show us you can use it right." Honestly, the sheer range of abilities Grave can wield by the game's end is amazing and has me convinced he'd make an amazing fighting game character. Also one of the melee combo finishers is a lethal dropkick and I think that's funny.
Watching this video, the game to me almost looks like a very particular, even more archaic style of game that was popular around the time: Rail Shooters, just in this case with you physically walking the rail line. Slow movement, simple controls, being at a stop to more effectively shoot what's on screen, it really looks like it has the feel of the arcade-style rail shooter, a humble beast now endangered to the point of practical extinction.
Riding an elevator to a Japanese garden at the top of building to fight a member of a rival faction at the top of that same building, who hextuple wields multiple fighting apperatuses and includes helicopters in the fight. Sounds a lot like MGR to me.
Gungrave is an underrated game and most people have forgotten about this game. I remember watching its anime adaptation, but never played the games on the PS2 when it was new at the time. I’ll give Gungrave Gore a try.
The timing of seeing this video pop up in my feed was perfect. I've been catching up on episodes I missed of a podcast I really like (Podquisition) and one of the hosts gave a super long speech that basically worked as a retrospective of the Gungrave series ending with his thoughts on G.O.R.E.
I gotta thank you for covering Gungrave. It's cause of this video that I went down the rabbit hole and have gotten to really enjoy the series. Recently picked up Gungrave G.O.R.E and I'm really enjoying it so far.
I played gungrave gore and I enjoyed it with the different combos and and demolitions shots,I never heard of the game before and until I looked it up and so that there was a whole franchise, and an upgrade system
One game that doesn't get anywhere near enough love is Gigabash. It came out in 2021, but I'm a huge kaiju fan and it got a godzilla collaboration in December. I wish more people would check it out
The fact this man remembered Vash’s full joke name proves he either did his research or enjoyed it, just as much as we Trigun fans did
"Speak for yourself, LOSER, I just figured out how to wavedash on this thing!" Fucking took me out.

might i add: the brief screens where you use specific Yu-Gi-Oh archetypes to switch scenes is probably one my favorite details in a channel
Grave is basically Vash fused with Hellsing Alucard. AND I LOVE IT!
its the perfect mix
Between this game and Hellsing, I think we can confidently say undead guys dual-wielding guns is pretty cool.
Add Blood (97 fps game) to the list
With big coats, thats a very important part

It’s also adapted into an anime series, really good too.

Bumbles you got me through a terrible month long sickness, high five!
Having “the best game you’ve never played” after “the worst game I’ve ever played” is perfection
"After filling him with enough lead to legally qualify as a pencil" that is a line I wish someone would use in a action movie XD
this game feels like what Drake of the 99 Dragons SHOULD have been
I always get annoyed whenever a game I've played gets called "the best game I've never played" but I'm not sure whether I'm mad because I don't think it's that obscure or because it serves as a deep reminder that most people aren't into what I'm into.
Both. It's both, with a side of "has my obsession with trawling console libraries just been challenged?!"
I fear the day this happens to me with OnRush

This game looks and sounds amazing! _Altered Beast_ wishes it was this competent.
I see what you did there here have a GUN
Or played this well
It's honestly wild learning that this started out a game! I was always under the impression that is was another part of the 90s Anime Canon, exclusively.

(Says Vash's full name in one breath) You sir have earned a subscriber 👍

Bumbles dropping me an early birthday gift. Thank you

So different, that back in the day when recommending Gungrave anime, the "proper etiquette" was to say "start from episode 2"
@@shards-of-glass-man And why is that?

I saw the new game and was interested in the franchise, so now I'm on the first game, loving it so far
8 seconds in and this already feels like the one of the most masculine games ever conceived
Fun fact: Tsuneo Imahori, who provided music for Gungrave, also provided music for the Trigun anime!

I fell in love this series after seeing a review on it, but moreso for the style.
Everything just looks rad.
"dolts who thought it would be wise to run at you with a samurai sword" Mrs.Mr.President?

Gods, Gungrave just hecking rules. As someone that... doesn't generally have fond memories of the '00s and a lotta stuff released during it, even.

Man i was hoping to find a good gungrave video and here it is! Thanks for such a well put together and entertaining video.
Definitely a series I should gotten familiar with much sooner.
I gotta thank you for covering Gungrave. It's cause of this video that I went down the rabbit hole and have gotten to really enjoy the series. Recently picked up Gungrave G.O.R.E and I'm really enjoying it so far.
If I had a John Bumper for every bumbles mcfumbles video that had the subtitle “the best game you’ve never played” I’d have 2 John Bumpers.
This game sounds like my experience playing dmc3 and exclusively using gunslinger
"Gungrave - The Best Game You Never Played"
"This is just Shadow the Hedgehog"
"Game: No More Heroes"
Hm.
The game actually looks pretty dope, time to go back and buy the magic box v2
i am very glad i found this channel
Me looking at my schedule and at the time it takes to watch a bumbles vid: yeah I got time.
Is his name seriously Beyond the Grave?
That’s either the coolest or cheesiest thing I’ve ever heard.
I've watched this video almost 5 times and will watch it more. Enjoy the watch time revenue, Jack, you deserve it! :)
everything but the last two minutes was great. good video
All these times he said "big daddy" yet not one reference to "regular sized daddy." What a missed opportunity.
Thanks for making this video, I played the whole thing after watching it and had a pretty fun time shootin dudes for a few hours
Vendread works well enough but C'MON MAGICAL MUSKET WAS RIGHT THERE, DESPERADO EVEN LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE THE MISSILE ELIMINATION SHOT
I was, as it turns out, not ready for the giraffe.
Ooh, going from your worst game to one of the best! I can’t wait!!
Your PSA convinced me, no more emulation for me!
The mc looks like the lovechild of vash and alucard, I'm sold!
Hawt, actually adult protag, 10/10 and I'm into guys with such aesthetics, methinks
Gungrave feels like one of those fake games you would see on an episode of a early 2000’s Disney live action show
There’s a video game scale at the bottom is chicken little and project altered beast and at the top is ace in action and gungrave
Dont know if you read this but... today i was going in a shop and saw Gun Grave G.o.r.e in the Game corner. Must think of this video and buy it. °v°
This looks like Devil May Cry 2 if it was good. All it needs is Lucia.
Must a game be complex when all I crave is violence and to shoot a rocket launcher through a man
Not sure why, but Bumbles in this video reminded me a lot ps Ms. Champ from VG myths
I remember searching for the canceled trigun game and finding this game on CZcams
So that's cool
Oh god I’m 5 days late to a bumbles McFumbles video I gotta catch up on the lore
I played gungrave gore and I enjoyed it with the different combos and and demolitions shots,I never heard of the game before and until I looked it up and so that there was a whole franchise, and an upgrade system
This is the first game I've ever seen where the main character undergoes dialysis.
i think he would love gungrave gore because you cna parry the rockets fired at you
2:39 Fossil Fighters yes yes YES! I love that series so much
Still waiting for a worst and best johto Pokémon as a pet video
I just watched your Altered Beast video and now yer doing GunGrave? Instant sub
I remember watching the tv show when I was younger
Oh but I have! I have played this one!
My day has come
This made me pick up gun grave gore again it is really fun when's that video
There's a new gungrave I played at PAX last year. Was a bit awkward but pretty neat
I think gungrave is all about full chaining, that's where the depth is
the music slaps cause the guy who made it also did the score for cowboy beebop
He has to make a Punch A Bunch version of the punch out episodes
One game that doesn't get anywhere near enough love is Gigabash. It came out in 2021, but I'm a huge kaiju fan and it got a godzilla collaboration in December. I wish more people would check it out
Just subbed worth it.
The sequel to the Snowgrave Route.
This game just spews a chaotic neutral feel for me.
It’s like Guilty Gear meets Killer 7
ooh, i love guns!
I remember seeing a 3D printing stl file of the guns before knowing it was from an actual game- I thought it was an anime or something
also trigun is getting another series this season so that's cool
Such a great game. First time i beat my older bro in a FPS :) rip mark
Gungrave: The best anime you've never watched
that's what got me into this game
Last stage looks like an SMT dungeon
*reads thumbnail* Me:heh I guess your wrong because I have played it!
Great intro
I wonder if (considering the obvious influence) we'll ever see a video covering No More Heroes
That'd be neat
Gungrave & Gungrave Overdose were fun games.
I'm surprised that gungrave is as good as it is.
Jokes on you, I watched a let's play of this when I was a wee lad
Favorite anime. Never played the first, but definitely had Overdose. Loved it. Brandon Heat aka Beyond The Grave IS THAT N... 🤫🤐😶
Yoo-hoo boys I'm gullible and bad with money was felt on a personal level
I’m not gonna lie when you showed the anime I thought I was watching hellsing ultimate for a bit
So it's basically a Moving Turret section game
I got into Gungrave because of the anime then I played the games, I loved the anime, liked the 1st game but I liked OD better
Man I woudl love to see you talk about Lisa
I have played both this and Overdose. Haven't yet gotten to G.O.R.E. yet though.
Granted I've never played Gungrave, but I have 100%'d the sequel; Gungrave Overdose
