- The Camponotus cruentauts colony, finally the update! These ants had done such a great job last year. Unluckily they have some problems sine I've stopped hibernation.
Colony bought at anthouse

Beautiful video man! The Camponotus colonie looks good!.
"And here you can see a worker raging around" lmao
I had the same problem with my cruentatus colony I while back, so I tried to feed them with raw meat, they rejected chicken but they love beef! I also do a mix with honey, protein powder, milk and some agave sirup, and that's their absolute favorite! I love one they have to wait in line because there are so many who want it.
Best of luck and I'm really looking forward to the next update!
Nice vid!
Now I think that your ants or at least larvae might still be in hibernationmode. Even if you raise the temperature and start offering sugars and proteins again, the ants still have their own biological "clock" so to say. I've had colonies out of hibernation with the adult workers being really active, but the brood just wasn't ready to consuming proteins and growing. So like always with ants, it's probably just a matter of time.
I agree, Theres only larvae because they are still in hibernationmode. I'm pretty sure that only larvae can survive winter. So their staying larvae just incase the weather gets bad again.
Yeah and it kinda varies with different queens and colonies! My 2 camponotus herculeanus queens only had small larvae going into hibernation and after about 4 months the temperature in my cellar accidentally raised from 5°C to 15°C and one of the queens had started to feed the larvae and they were huge! And the other camponotus herculeanus queen in the same conditions didnt start to feed the larvae until they had been in room temperature for a few days!
I agree.
PS: I think that you should take away the moldy test tube
Thank you
This article might provide a clue to the issue: www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2018-04/fda-stg040918.php: Substance that guides ant trail is produced by symbiotic bacteria. Toward the end of the article a section about a stingless bee that provides a fungus needed for the pupa to pupate.
---
It might be the case that a missing symbiotic bacteria or fungus needs to be present for the hormones that initiate feeding. Maybe an empty tube that previously housed feeding larvae might provide the missing element to the microbiome.
The ants are probably just drinking the insect blood from the carcasses instead of bringing it into the nest
Amazing video!
I don't think they want food because some of those workers are acting like food storages and feeding the brood from that
Hey, how are ants now? We are looking forward to see their current situation. Nice job!
Cool video! :) Hope they are gonna get better! My Red headed M.Barbarus queen just got her first nanitic after hibernatopn :D So I am so excited for that, hope she doesent stall like your campos are doing... :/
Btw, I love your english accent, it is so cozy XD
Thanks man! :)
Messor Barbarus really don't need any hibernation, keep them at room temperature.
Good luck with your colony
@@ElpredatorGYRO A small temperature drop is beneficial
They arrived " recently " from north Africa (25 000 years if I remember correctly)into Southern Europe. You can't get wrong with a heat cable on one side of the colony : they'll choose the right gradient of temperature. I kept mine at 28-32C all year round, they were very active and population boomed in 3 years. But I guess you could mimic a southern European climate if you wish so.
Amazing Ants, you could try to feed them with Dr. Bhatkar´s diet. My small/starting Ligniperdus colony ignored food almost completely for 2 weeks after hibernation but when I gave Bhatkar´s food they loved it.
Make some new vids! Your vids are top class and great entertainment!
Finally got my 2 ant queen Argentina ants
Thing i like about them is they can have up to hundreds of queens seens I have 2 its going to be fun to feed them and good job
First they are awsome shots that you got
how are these guys doing now?
I love and admire your videos and how much work that goes into them. I hope you don't mind if I use the same title format for my videos(Genus Species - 00 - Title) It just looks so Professional.
My messor barbarus colony is the same, for about a month after hibernation they layed no eggs, now they have layed loads and are growing very fast. I think you just need to make sure they are as unstressed as possible and give them some time
Good video man 👍🏻
Awesome video:)
Hello! Your channel is excellent! It's my favorite next to AntsCanada. I would like you to upload videos more often and from all your collines. As you are doing now, a video for each colony. See if you get some new species to add to your home.
Thank you very much. Greetings from Spain. : D
cool video man.
I myself also have a cruentatus queen and she had recently laid her first eggs.
unfortunately she has eaten it in a few days: (
do you know how it is that she has eaten the eggs.
Most common reason is disturbance. Just leave her alone in dark for few weeks.
okay thanks
then I will try to disturb her even less
it is in my wishlist
They may have needed a little more space. If the larger tube doesn't help, try to raise the temperature slightly. They might be a bit cooler than the other colony which is flourishing .
Maybe try dampened fish food pellets. I have a camponotus amercanus colony that I started last year. She only had 6 workers when she woke from hibernation and she has 7 now with brood in all stages. They will rarely take roaches (both dubia and red runners have been tried), and they never take any spiders, crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, grubs or mealworms. Occasionally, they will accept termite alates to eat, but they will always accept the fish food. I dampen it with honey water and let it absorb until it is soft. It's cheap, so it could be worth trying.
have you tried putting some food into the test tube or at least in the entrance to see if they will take it and I mean like small parts like a leg if they still don't take it maybe you can use some fish food or a little bit of dog food see if they will take any of that
Ohhhh my FINALLY!😊 love this guyssss
You could also try the Protein jellys many German Antshops sell
Nice one im starting a colony of those aswell now i think they are one of the most beautifull Camponotus species how warm do you hold them after hibernation? some lower temperatures first or straight up to hot temperatures.
At first I kept them at 20°, meanwhile they are at about 25°
What happened to this colony?
👍
I am jealous my largest ants are formica and i will attempt to catch a queen this season . Greetings from Croatia
Try offering them a new tube or formicarium.
try feeding them mince.
I’m buying my first queen tommorow and was wondering when I should release it into a outdoor bit it dosent come with workers. I was also wondering what is that nest made out off is it ytong brick?
You will have plenty of time before releasing them into a out world if you start with a single queen. The nest is made out off ytong brick.
I know why they dont eat it you need to give more prey than sugar give less sugar i have the same species too
You make very cool video's man.
Only i dont like it that i dont now when ther came a new video of you. Do you can make a upload schedule, that i like. But your videos are always very cool andere i m always waiting when ther came a new video of you
Thanks man! I will upload to 90% Saturday, but not every week or two weeks, I'm uploading when I finished a video (gotta lot to do besides these ant videos). That's the only schedule I can give you
What happened please?
Please start making video's again
this is uploaded on april 1st. remember to not trust anything this guys says on this video.
Lol
???
3v1lpl0x april the 1st is not “celebrated” in all countrys, its about the Spanish losing Den Briel
What camera do you use?
Canon 650d with 18-35mm Kit lense
Amazing Ants thank you!
Can you upload once a week
I think posting his videos once every week would decrease the videos quality and sometimes there's no need for a update for his ants
They dont eat insects because there is no larva ?
Antoine Chapperon he say they do have larvae
You can clearly see the larva in the video.
Just wait whit dose ants. I took my barbaricus out in early february/late january(sins i placed them in to early for a reason) and they just started taking protein, so just give them some time, it will be fine
thanks for the advice :)
nice fotage bro
Try meet worms live
What is the biggest ant in Europe
Messor Keeper Its campanotus barbaricus
Alexandre B. The Queen of that species is 17 mm while messor barbarous Queen is 18 mm
Messor Keeper Not realy, i have messor barbarous and campanotus barbaricus and i can assure you that the camponotus queen is much larger than the messor, being a litle bit over 20mm
Alexandre B. Well Wikipedia lied again to me
Alexandre B. I found out that the species queens can be in different sizes and most of them are 17 - 18 mm but some can get bigger like your queen also the workers are nearly the same size as the queen which is massive
Tou should get rid of the crickets they eat ants I'm pretty sure
haha, yeah if they grow for sure. Meanwhile the crickets are all fed to messor colony :)
2nd
Maybe you should cut insect? I think they will be more interested.
Forgot to mention it in the video, but I already tried it. They are on their way :)

Hi könntest du vielleicht mal meinen Kanal verlinken? Wäre echt nett. Hab dir auf dem anderen Kanal mal ein Tipp gegeben hoffe der hilf
awsome and can u watch my messor barbarus video to see what im doing wrong on my channel
Is this video a Joke?
Don’t feed your ants live food… it’s cruel.
Kevkev Ge no it isnt. Insects can't recognise pain
And as long they don't eat it it's not cruel in any way :D
They clearly have pain receptors and feel pain. Maybe not in the way we or other animals do, but they do.
phelanpt agree they can feel neuropathic pain
【 Doim 】they can feel neuropathic pain which is the pain you feel when you scrap your knee or break your leg. True the cannot recognize certain types of pain like the pain you feel when your suffering or when a loved one dies.

Ohhhh my FINALLY!😊 love this guyssss
